I noticed the medicine working within a few hours of taking it. I pee less and empty way better. I get up 1 or 2 times per night instead of 4-6 and dont feel a constant urgency to pee. I was slightly dizzy the first few days but eating something and stay hydrated helps. I can still ejaculate just fine and now I don't have to stop having sex to go pee! The only side effect I had was when I stood up I would get light headed. My g/f being an RN said she knows it is a side effect. I did not experience any other side effects. My urine flow is great and no problem starting urine. Some patients on here advise never to take it etc..please talk to your doctor and try what you need to and do not listen to advice from people on a forum to mislead you. What works for others may not for you. Due to a number of factors I developed a case of urinary retention and had to go to the ER to have a cathater installed to drain my bladder. At a follow up appointment i asked my urologist if there was a prostrate drug that did not have retrograde ejaculation as a side effect. He started me on Uroxatral and it has worked out great. Being able to ejaculate again is awesome. I could not deal with the the retrograde thing. Hytrin had the most side effects and Uroxatral had the fewest. These included weight gain (probably caused by water retention), body ache, joint pain, anxiety, detached feelings, and stuffy nose. UROXATRAL (ALFUZOSIN HYDROCHLORIDE): Alfuzosin is used by men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH). It does not shrink the prostate, but it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder. This helps to relieve symptoms of BPH such as difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weak stream, and the need to urinate often or urgently (including during the middle of the night).
