I went to a Psychiatrist 6 months after starting Singular and got prescribed an SSRI to help with anxiety. This helped for a while. After taking Singulair for 4 years, it suddenly got worse. I was convinced there were voices inside my head telling me to move (I moved across the country), but side effects didn't stop until I stopped the medication. It's been 4 days since I stopped Singulair, and still don't feel normal. So please, if you're considering this medication please be careful and let someone know that this medication can have certain effects on your mental well being. I could always hear music in my head, songs and melodies I had not heard since my childhood and what I would call a sonic hallucination? All of a sudden I could hear voices shouting at me and it actually startled me as if someone had just jumped out at me. The nightmares I experienced also were very vivid. One I remember, I was in a car park and stepped out of my car bare foot onto lots of snakes, but I could really feel the snakes under my feet | The worst thing about this drug is the stomach pains it gave me. I went to countless appointments and a specialist who all said different things but assured me it would not be this medication. I decided to take myself of it and voila! No more daily stomach aches. However my asthma has gotten worse. If you don't get any of the huge list of side effects listed in the paperwork included with this medication, it is like a miracle drug. It's just unfortunate for me and it seems many others that the side effects listed are actually much more common than they'd like us to think. Fingers crossed that an alternative is available one day with less side effects. A couple of things to note, Doctors will not buy the fact that this is causing whatever problem you're having, it will change you as a person mentally, I used to be a very chilled person, but even though I no longer take this medicine I am plagued with horrible thoughts of bad things happening to people I love, which I never thought of before, another tip is that this medicine can show incorrect results on liver function tests. | M | 30 | 2 years 10mg 1X day | 1/17/2023 | 1 | Allergies | Depression, Anxiety, Suicidal thoughts, aggression, nightmares | I knew the side effects even before I started taking this, and I'm glad I knew because I would have stayed taking this medicine and it would've been torture. I became increasingly agitated and irritated, to the point I was kind of afraid to be around my family because I was afraid I would snap on them for no reason. Completely unexplainable stomach pain. Went to my family doctor because I was convinced I had either a UTI or an appendicitis. She ruled out both and said the singular would not cause symptoms like that. Went to my OBGYN and got an ultrasound because I thought I may have had an ovarian cyst, nope. Completely unexplainable stomach pain that bothered me almost 24/7. And right at the month mark of taking this medication my hair started falling out in handfuls and I was afraid to take showers. My testosterone also tanked to clinically low levels. Three weeks after quitting Singulair all of this started to disappear. I have now been off singulair for 5 years and consider it a life-changing decision for the better. Please do not take this, especially if you are considering it for a child. It controls everything but I only stay on it for 2 1/2-3 weeks because it does cause anxiety to increase. I take it at night cause after about an hour your so sleepy. Sometimes the drowsiness lingers into the morning. Other than that I take a break in between to get through a high pollen and grass count spring. | Drink a lot of water and hot tea. Take at night. After a huge meltdown, I asked God to help me & this medicine popped in my head. I decided to google the symptoms however I didn't want a generic list of symptoms, i wanted peoples experiences & i eventually found this site. As I read the posts on here about this med, I immediately recognized that it was this medicine that was doing this to me! I cannot believe something like this is on the market & for children even! It is an extremely dangerous drug in my experience because some list suicidal thoughts as one of their symptoms & even though it didn't get to that point for me, after experiencing the slow onset of my symptoms I can see how this drug could possibly slowly lead someone to suicide! Thats nuts! Our pulmonologist suggested that a daily inhaler with occasional albuterol and maybe a daily anti-histamine is more effective at controlling the asthma. An allergist suggested the Singulair - the pulmonologist basically said it wasn't even needed. And he was right. I am not Recovered a 100% and still having hard times but for sure I will be ok very soon. Not recommended at all it’s not worth it plus asking qualified dr is important. Stopping and using can cause series side effects. I am shaking all the time and feel a sense of doom and I'm on edge all the time and can't think straight. it's not really made a lot of differance with my breathing and still have a blocked nose with quite tender sinusis. I also have aches and pains like I have the flu, and a sore throat to go with it although my temperature is normal, absolutely will not continue with this drug and will just stick to my preventer and my ventolin from my on.. it's scary how it effects people's mental health and should come with a warning and a doctors should warn about this serious side effects. luckily I haven't had the suicidal thoughts yet but it's a awful drug and I do not recommend it at all. SINGULAIR (MONTELUKAST SODIUM): Montelukast is used regularly to prevent the wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma and decrease the number of asthma attacks. Montelukast is also used before exercise to prevent breathing problems during exercise (bronchospasm). This medication can help decrease the number of times you need to use your rescue inhaler. This medication is also used to relieve symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis (such as sneezing, stuffy/runny/itchy nose). This medication does not work right away and should not be used to treat sudden asthma attacks or other breathing problems. This drug works by blocking certain natural substances (leukotrienes) that may cause or worsen asthma and allergies. It helps make breathing easier by reducing swelling (inflammation) in the airways.
