GEODON  (ZIPRASIDONE HYDROCHLORIDE):  Ziprasidone injection is used to treat occurrences of severe agitation in patients with schizophrenia. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Ziprasidone injection is used when quick relief of your symptoms is required. It is not used together with the form of this medication that is taken by mouth. An injection of ziprasidone works quickly to reduce tension and anxiety which, if untreated, can result in dangerous behavior and interfere with your treatment and care.   FDA Approval Date: 2001-02-05 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

3  Bipolar Disorder Was on 80mg x 2 times daily. I am tapering off of Geodon and have actually lost weight. I’ve been tapering slowly as I get dizzy, light-headed, restless and anxious if I taper off to quickly. It helped, but I am trying Latuda because it is supposed to be more helpful for BP depression. 44 2 years

1  Bipolar SEVERE MANIA within 12 hours of beginning drug. Relapsed gambling, personality change, hypersexual, saw trails, thought I could move things with my mind. FURIOUS at Dr who prescribed it. I told her I'd been manic on it 8 years before but dummy me trusted her. I was so angry that after I went off it, if I had seen her at the office I would've attacked her which is completely UNLIKE me. Even though I was only on it a month, the withdrawal was torture. Severe migraines, nausea, fever and chills for several days. I lost 11 months clean off gambling from this poison. F 53 4 weeks

1  Schizoaffective I have been through a lot but nothing like this because geodon. I was up to 400lbs 6 years ago knew nothing about the drug at all was told nothing I set a goal to lose over 120lbs and lost almost 190lbs on my own took 2 years a couple years after taking it because of my health problems. Looked it up and then confronted my doctors about the horrible side effects they denied anything at all sent me to a regular doctor for withdrawal side effects. Ruined my life forever undoing everything now developing health anxiety believing and having serious problems do not ever ever take its a trap drug needing 500 unhealthy calories to work and a half life of 7 hours so no matter what you are screwed 5 hours a day withdrawal. I repeat do not ever ever take this drug. The doctors are wrong they can't do anything about the side effects anyways coming off is impossible it's a death sentence My therapist and doctors say I am the only one to do what I did losing all that weight on my own to end this way completely screwed up for good forever done over gone. You have been warned please please trust me never ever take this drug at all. I have taken them all. They all are dangerous and bad. But this is real seriously the worst possible M 40 6 years

3  Anxiety Attacks, Panic Disorder I feel like I’m knocked out cold. I definitely don’t have trouble sleeping with this drug but I also take 20mg 2X daily of my Adderall as well for my ADHD. My psychiatrist said to take my Geodon at bedtime and I feel like it’s really hard for me to wake up in the mornings, until I take my Adderall. Anyone else having this problem as well? It does seem to be helping with my panic and anxiety disorder but should I be this sleepy and groggy? Is that what it’s supposed to do? I feel like a Zombie. But it’s only been a few days and I can see a difference but do t really like the side effects. TIA F 29 3 days

1  Mood disorders I take it in the evening with dinner and I can't get up some mornings. And I swear I've had more panic attacks and emotional breakdowns in the last 30 days than the last 7yrs. I'm stopping it tonight and see if it's the medicine. I've tried so many different kinds of meds and I get reactions and as soon as I stop the bad reactions go away. Being prescribe 40mg 2x daily off adderall instant release which I take 40mg when I wake up I should be able to function. Having ADHD I'm very high strung and I seriously had no strength or energy some days. Its affecting my daily life time to stop. F 36 30 days

1  Anxiety and depression lethargy, catatonia While taking Geodon, I could hardly move off of the floor. I could not get out of bed and would cry the moment anyone said anything to me. I lost all motivation to complete activities of daily living or eat. My mother had to help pick me up and feed me because it was too much for me to handle. It was the worst medication experience I've ever had. F 20 4 days

3  Off label for anxiety I've been put on and off geodon 2 times over about 7 years. The first time it was an attempt by my doctor to find ANYTHING to help my anxiety / VERY minor depression (more of a personaliy thing I think). Anyways at age 23 it was the FIRST THING THAT EVER WORKED. I was finishing college and got straight A's, I (to summarize) was able to be a mature adult in a relationship and it lasted many years, I got healthy in terms of food and working out. I felt great BUT it did kill my creativity. Abut 2 years later I went off it and don't remember any crazy issues but looking back it was around the time I abruptly quit my job and that wasn't the only reason but who knows. This time I was on 40 mg and went cold turkey. Years later I had a (my doctor is basically a medical drug dealer so I just tell him what I want) but what I would call a hyper manic depression episode and couldnt sleep, had INSANE anxiety (Had major lifestyle changes happening so it is what it is) and I requested ot be put b F 31 7 days

2  Mood Stabilizer Extreme drowsiness, hungover effect, sedation, impaired concentration, restlessness, feeling overwhelmed from lack of accomplishing anything on this med 60-80 mg should be the max dosage administered to patients, but I was put on 100 mg. I have a horrible time getting up in the morning; I could've slept twelve hours, but upon waking up I feel as though I never slept at all. I don't wake up until my third or fourth period class. Gym is my first class and even though I'm running around and active, I can barely keep my eyes open and I'm about ready to collapse. I can't concentrate whatsoever and I can't process sentences or make simple connections anymore. It's really, really bad. I'm not what I once was on this medication. It really sucks the life out of me. F 15 2 months

2  schizophrenia memory loss, runny nose Too short half-life! Seemed well on me at 80 milligrams, but went out of my body too fast. It knocked me out on 80 milligrams capsule, no matter how I tried to keep me awake. A frightening side effect of low dose 20 mg was that I could fall asleep totally unprepared and later woke up with bad stomach. M 23 4 months

5  Major depression with psychotic I am posting this to encourage others but also to inform and help. I started taking Geodon about one month ago. The side effects for me were really rough. I rode out the side effects and hung in there and I am very glad that I did because I am doing great and I feel alive again. I was on Seroquel for 5 years and an additional 50 pounds later I found myself sleeping 12 hours a day and barely living due to feeling tired all the time. Seroquel saved my life but took the quality of my life away. That being said, the side effects from Geodon were complete hell but I made it through Please give geodon time if it is prescribed to you. Thank God I am losing weight and I feel alive again and happy. The side effects were: bad diarrhea , feeling hyper and severe restlessness and sleeplessness. I pretty much had all the side effects but the restlessness was the toughest part. The restlessness did go away. F 49 1 months

1  Bipolar Disorder Mixed State Geodon has allowed me to sleep and acts as a reset button as I have Bipolar Mixed State which has some psychosis to it. I read all of the possible side effects that Geodon could possibly cause at https://geodon.com, the Official Geodon manufacturer (Pfizer) website. This drug has saved my life. I'm only giving it a "1" rating because I want people to see it so people will be able to make a decision based on logic, not fear. Go to geodon.com and weigh out the potential side effects to see if it's worth it to you. It was worth it for me. Do your homework before taking this drug. Empower yourself by being an equal partner with your doctor before taking any drugs he/she may prescribe. Don't rely on just here say or this website to use/not use this drug. Everyone's experience is their own. Right? Either that or let's ALL stop taking ALL drugs (drama statement like most of the ones on here). F 40 16 years

5  Bipolar Mixed State LOOK PEOPLE! After reading everyone's posts, the reason Geodon is getting so many low ratings is because you relied on your doctor only, to take whatever they prescribed you with without doing your homework. Mental Illness is hard but doable (I've been inpatient 10 times in my life for different reasons; half of them to stay safe when I was suicidal for whatever reason) Again, most of you are at fault because of your lack of study on the drug's POSSIBLE side effects and your willingness to just take what's being given to you without any accountability on your part. Some doctors are to blame. Some are not. I have found that Geodon is for Bipolar MIXED STATE only! Geodon may work for you if you are diagnosed with something else because I'm not the end alls of user testimonials. Quit knocking the drug and STOP leaving feedback at the first sign of a side effect. Is anyone on here JUST on GEODON because I've always been on a combination. Is anyone on here taking into account that Thanks everyone for giving Geodon an F-. I don't feel sorry for ANYONE on here because the feedback on this forum, with a few exceptions, can't wait to tell their horror stories. Empower yourself! To those with Bipolar MIXED STATE, give it a chance by giving it at least a few months try because it takes time to adjust and get used to. "I was on it for one week and "freaked" out." "It's the most evil drug out there." I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I have had a personal experience with the antipsychotic Seroquel, where I can say it isn't a good fit for me because, after doing my research before taking the drug, weighing out the POSSIBLE side effects found on the drug maker's website and after talking with my psychiatrist in depth, I had foggy thinking and rapid weight gain. If it helped me sleep or balanced the chemicals in my mind, I would have kept taking it even with the weight gain. This being said, I have a relative that takes it and it's the only thing that works for him. THAT IS CONSTRUCTIVE. F 40 16 years

1  My daughter was prescribed Geodon My daughter tried to break her own neck with her hands, then she started hitting herself as hard as she could. She was crying and telling me it was not get doing it. She saw a lot of scary people and tried to fight them off of herself. This medication can be very harmful to medication resistance patients.  1  Because the psychiatrist said I was locked in PRISON where crying was PROHIBITED. It felt very painful and unconsolable-like. It hurt to cry. And it never hurts for me to cry normally. It was HORROR. It is painful to take. Would rather die or live in Santee jail. F 31 10 years
