| 2 | Bipolar type 1 with psychosis | I'm no longer taking this medication. I stopped the medication bc I felt tired a lot and I was still having sever depressive episodes. After stopping the medication, my heart rate is high all the time. It hasn't gone back down. I took seraquel with them (thought I should add). I have read all of the negative reviews and understand that it doesn't work for everyone. I have not gained any weight due to the Geodone. When I have gone up in seraquel I gained. I got off Geodone while trying to get pregnant and was put on Latuda. I gained 50 pounds and was in a horrible mental place. I switched back to Geodone once we made the decision to stop trying (it was causing me stress I have an ovarian disorder and fertility issues). Within 3 weeks i felt like myself again. It has helped with my moods, auditory hallucinations, paranoia, anger and just over all well-being. While on Geodone I have been able to keep the same job for 9 years, get my bachelors degree and graduate with honors and get married and be in a healthy stable relationship and have meaningful healthy strong relationships with family and friends. All things I struggled with before Geodone. Read up on medications, ask questions, get second opinions but also do work on yourself and be active in your treatment methods. Therapy, have a support system, educate yourself and loved ones, identify triggers and ask for help. A pill isn't the only answer. Give Geodone a chance but be honest and keep in contact with your provider. Geodone has been my saving grace. I was prescribed Geodon 20mg for my bipolar disorder and having frequent mood swings. After about 3 weeks, I wasn't feeling any better, probably worse than before I started this drug. I stopped cold turkey not realizing the consequences of doing so, my psychiatrist never informed me of the dangers of possible withdrawal symptoms. I should have educated myself more on this drug or at least read the reviews on this horrible drug. I see it does work for some people. So do not get discouraged reading all the negative reviews. My psychiatrist decided I take one weeks worth of 20mg. I feel like I'm going crazy.. horrible panic attacks, constant anxiety. Super depressed. I've dealt with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager, I'm 26. But this is a whole different level of anxiety and depression. I'm also on 25 mg 2 times daily of Lamotrigine, .1 mg twice daily of clonidine. And I was taking 40mg adderall but have recently tried tapering off the adderall Thinking that is a factor to my debilitating anxiety. I've been to the hospital 3times already for severe panic attacks and my BP was so high 170/110. I feel like this drug is killing me. I can't sleep, I'm lucky if I get 2-3 hours of sleep each night. Headache/sensitive to light and hot & freezing shaking cold,sweaty, weak/ heavy feeling hmm ok, that all goes w flu or pain flares or even some siezures, and so can the muscle twitches and tightening/cramps/tenderness...but then the 5th I'm explaining more about all of this to my mom and realize I am nearly having full panic reaction just talking..putting all these symptoms and my feelings and fears/realizations together!!! Omg!! I have not felt "anxiety" or "panic" this strong in this way for a very long time! Imagine what this could do if it were to be happening in front of certain people at the wrong time in my life right now the consequences of their thoughts and reactions could be very serious | I apologize my first statement was long and I didn't strictly stick to the exact subject of my very own experience with Geodon only and added to it my feelings about others sharing their experiences but I am grateful and it's important we have these sites and places to share real patients info on these drugs so the information is out there to help each other. I believe we can advocate for ourselves better with the information and for each other by sharing. This medication didn't work for me. I will be contacting my provider tomorrow morning and using my symptoms and the information I learned here to request we discontinue Geodon. I hope the best for everyone in their lives and futures. GEODON (ZIPRASIDONE HYDROCHLORIDE): Ziprasidone injection is used to treat occurrences of severe agitation in patients with schizophrenia. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain. Ziprasidone injection is used when quick relief of your symptoms is required. It is not used together with the form of this medication that is taken by mouth. An injection of ziprasidone works quickly to reduce tension and anxiety which, if untreated, can result in dangerous behavior and interfere with your treatment and care.
