1 | osperosias | leg pains/ chills/cramps in muscles/all over my body/hot flashes/numbness in my hands and feet/ burning sensation all over my body /blurd sight/ | F | 75 | 3 years | 1/9/2008 | 5 | osteoporosis and osteopenia | None. | I take it because my mother had such severe osteoporosis that she was almost entirely bent over, and also having tiny fractures in her spine. I take it at my doctor's recommendaion, along with a calcium, vitamin D and magnesium supplement. It has stopped my developing osteoporosis in the spine and osteopenia in the hips, as diagnosed by an MRI when I was 59. I wish my mother had taken Evista, but it was unavailable during her lifetime. I am now 61, and will continue taking it. | F | 61 | 2 days | 1/3/2008 | 2 | dr. rx'd for bone loss prevention | severe and more frequent hot flases/night sweats, mild depression, insomnia, some UTI-like symptoms, increase in fibromyalgia symptoms, some weight gain. | Dr. prescribed for bone-loss prevention and b/c of supposed benefits in breast cancer prevention. I'm post-menopausal, my bone density has been fine, my mother had breast cancer, I try to live healthy lifestyle, exercise, eat healthy foods and take vitamins, calcium. I never went to full doses - started with half-doses twice weekly as per dr's rx, increased to half-doses daily, decreased to a half-pill twice weekly, due to increase in hot flashes. After laying awake in bed with such overall aching that I could not get in a comfortable position, began thinking I should search web for possible side effects not listed in drug insert. What an eye-opener! It's a new year and I am going to stop taking to see if symptoms improve! I like my doctor, but am beginning to wonder if he listens to drug salesmen too much! | F | 55 | 6 months | 1/2/2008 | 1 | osteoporosis | Flu-like symptoms, mouth so dry I could hardly swallow, brain dysfunction of the worst kind. I feel like I have aged 20 years. | Pharmicutical companies and tobacco companies seem to be motivated by the same thing. I am done w/ Evista after only 3 of the sample pills. I hope and pray the side effects will go away quickly. My new regimen? --More calcium, D, K, sunlight, excercise and joy. I have avoided the sun and its bone-hardening Vitamin D benefits out of fear of skin cancer and wrinkles, and sat in an office for 20 years. No more of that! And no more Evista! | F | 55 | 3 days | 12/29/2007 | 2 | have osteoporosis | Breasts felt full (not all the time) and started to hurt. It felt like the pain radiated from nodules inside the breast | stopped taking the drug | F | 65 | 60 days | 12/25/2007 | 1 | osteopenia | Hot flashes, leg-toe cramps, urinary problems, hair loss, general aches and because of the hot flashes-leg-toe cramps, interrupted sleep. | I posted on this site on 9/30/07 and said I was going to stop Evista. It was the only prescription drug I took. I stopped 9/30/07 and since then have have 6-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep (most nights), less hot flashes, much less & less severe leg-toe cramps and the big item I did not expect: When I get up from my desk, I don't hurt all over! I thought it was from my age, but I no longer have this effect since I stopped Evista! I have told friends that I felt like I had "been rode hard and put away wet!". I have upped my intake of Calcium and Vitamin D and hope my next bone density (May 08) will not say that I have lost ground. I feel so much better now! | F | 70 | 9 years | 12/20/2007 | 4 | osteoporosis | Small amount of hot flashes. Leg cramps occasionally. If I take more calcium. the leg cramps go away. Am more thirsty. | Have not had another bone density test to see if the drug has helped. Took Fosamax and Actenol before with awful side effects. | F | 62 | 6 days | 12/17/2007 | 2 | LCIS - prevent breast cancer | Night sweats, hot flashes, vaginal dryness and itching, urinary problems, toe cramps, finger joints painful, weight gain, change in texture of hair, feeling of listlessness, itchy stools, rash on my back, my blood results now reveal that I may have hepatitis B. | I was prescribed Evista as an experimental drug for LCIS as I am at risk for breast cancer. My last two mammograms were negative. I do not know if it is a result of the Evista or not. I believe this drug produces many side affects and is still under research. I am going to take myself off the drug for a month and ssee if symptoms change. | M | 54 | 13 months | 12/14/2007 | 1 | slight osteoporosis | I have developed severe lower back pain and hip pain. I also started having a problem with short-term memory which REALLY scared me. I also had very bad heart burn, which I've never had, insomnia, leg cramps at night, and some urinary incontenance. | I was on a 5-year blind study between Evista and Tomoxifen. I got along fine. I just found out recently it was Tomoxifen I had been taking so asked for Evista for prevention of osteoporosis. I developed joint pain, especially sever hip pain, which I never had before and "scaitaca" on the left side. I decided to look up the side effects on the computer and I found this site which has been very helpful. I was very surprised with the mention of failure to concentrate and memory loss. I had started experiencing both and I was very upset because I own my own business and have been very sharp until this time. I started making detailed notebooks for my children who would be taking over my business. I immediately quit taking Evista after 4-6 months on it and very quickly the mental fog cleared and I also was able to concentrate again and had no insomnia or heartburn. However the hip pain continues. Have others had experience with this pain after stopping the medicine? I'd re | F | 62 | 5 months | 12/13/2007 | 2 | Osteoporosis of the spine and neck | Right hip pain, nausea, lump in the throat feeling | After suffering with hip pain that caused me to limp, made it difficult to sleep as well as sit for any length of time I decided to research Evista (the only drug I take). Much to my surprise I saw my exact symptons on this website. I never associated my problems with the drug as they only appeared after 3 years of medication. After two weeks off the drug - all symptons have disappeared. I can now walk and sit with no hip pain and nausea has disappeared. I will find out next month if bone density has improved. I feel much better off Evista and will seek alternative medication if one is necessary. | F | 56 | 4 years | 12/3/2007 | 1 | bone loss | I had some leg cramps no hot flashes but breast tenderness. I have a history of fibercystic breasts but have had no problems the past 15 years until now. I had taken Evista for about 6 months before finding a cyst in my left breast now I have calcification in my right that will need to be checked out further. I quit taking Evista as I feel it was directly related to te breast issues | F | 53 | 6 months | 12/1/2007 | 1 | Osteoperosis | Have just completed a second month of Evista 60mg per day and the pain in all my upper chest bones is horrific. I cannot sleep at night due to the pain, which radiates to the lower jaw bone during the night and dissipates during the day. Have continue jitters within all my limbs - this has all begun since the second 30 day regimine began. Am requesting my dr. remove this drug from my therapy. The only other medication I take does not have any of these side effects. Just began in last couple of days pressure - extreme at times - behind one eye. | Would not reccomend this drug to anyone. | F | 69 | 60 days | 11/28/2007 | 1 | Osteopenia | SEVERE right flank pain. I had been through several MRIs, untrasounds, X-rays - you name it - to find out why I (the queen of stoicism) was almost crippled by pain. No answers. Then I bumped into this website and read how many other women had low back pain and it felt like someone had hit me over the head with a mallet. Also Charlie horses, WEIGHT GAIN, heart palpitations, hair loss. | I was ONLY taking this stuff because I was encouraged by the fact that it is a cousin of Tamoxifen. Guess that was a lousey reason. I'm done with this stuff as of today. | F | 63 | | 11/26/2007 | 3 | Osteoporosis | None | I have been on Evista for 2months now and have had no side effects at all. After having a horrible reaction to Boniva I was told it was my best option. I figured I'd give it a try. Won't know if it is helping until my next bone density which will not be for another 10 months. My Boniva expeience was awful and prompted me to write to the FDA. | F | 63 | 2 months | 11/25/2007 | 1 | recommended by endocrinologist | Instant weight gain, total lack of energy and depression. I exercise regularly and watch my diet. Now I cannot lose the weight, no matter what I do. It was prescribed to "help" with my symptoms of post hysterectomy/menopause, but it has only made them worse. After research on Evista, I haven't seen any indication that helps in this particular situation. | I don't have any signs of osteoporosis. Had a bone density test and came out perfect. I don't see it's worth continuing to take it, considering side effects. (I'm not imagining them!) I stopped taking it as of today. | F | 57 | 30 days | 11/24/2007 | 2 | breast cancer prevention | Hair loss, increase in appetite, skin dryness. | F | 51 | 3 days | 11/18/2007 | 2 | Diagnosed with osteopenia | First was heartburn Second was a problem with vision-flashing and sudden floaters which I have never had Third severe leg cramps leading to clots- | After taking for 3 months, my mobility was starting to be limited in range which I had never experienced. I am in excellent health and very active in physical activities. My back, hips and legs would ache which I have never experienced. | F | 63 | 3 months | 11/11/2007 | 1 | severe osteoporosis | Since taking Evista I have had severe leg cramps, cramps in ankles, feet and toes. It's painful to walk on right foot. I have pain in right leg, and more pain in my back. And I've gained weight even though my eating habits have not changed. | I found this web site today and after reading the experiences of others I am convinced Evista is responsible for the discomfort I have. Even though my osteoporosis is severe, I can't put up with the side effects of Evista. So I am quitting today. No point in asking my doctor what to do. She is a pill pusher. | F | 81 | 75 days | 11/8/2007 | 1 | osteoporosis | Jaws hurt, knees and back hurt | Just thought I'd check out the side effects and boy was I surprised! I just started taking it a couple of weeks ago and have felt like crap for a few days with terrible knee and jaw pain. I don't take anything else currently,so gosh you think it might be the Evista??? The Dr. had me on Lipitor for high cholesterol but had leg cramps so she said to stop taking it but now I think it's the E drug. Wonder what she'll say when I tell her I'm not taking it anymore (she'll probably yell at me) maybe I need a new Dr. | F | 52 | 2 weeks | 11/7/2007 | 5 | Osteopenia | NONE | I have been taking it for more than a year and have had no side effects | F | 65 | | 11/5/2007 |
