LUPRON DEPOT-3  (LEUPROLIDE ACETATE):  Leuprolide is used to stop early puberty (precocious puberty) in children. It helps to delay sexual development (such as growth of the breasts/testicles) and the start of menstrual periods. It also helps slow down early bone growth to increase the likelihood of reaching normal adult height. Leuprolide works by decreasing the amount of sex hormones that a child's body makes (estrogen in girls, testosterone in boys).   FDA Approval Date: 1997-03-07 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Undiagnosed but possible Endo After one week of my injection, my pelvic pain became more severe than it ever has been, and leg and joint pain worsened. Research I have done since allowing my doctor to give me this injection tells me I should have never allowed it and won't be getting another one. I was given another prescription for Norethindrone which is designed to help with the menopausal side effects of the injection. Why this is helping to back of the pelvic pain, I have no idea. (neither does my doctor) I have tried backing off on the dose since but the pain seems to come right back so I am staying on my dose of 10mg a day. The leg pain seems to come and go but I have had a few bouts that are enough to make me cry, and can't seem to find a way to help that. I have been taking a pain medication every night before bed to try to help this, but it is not something I can take during the day if I go to work. I have appointments set up with two other doctors in the next few months to find some help with this. Research suggests that the best way to resolve endo is to have laproscopic surgery to exise it and that is what I will be asking about with these new doctors. Good luck and God Bless to all who have agreed to try Lupron! F 41 5 weeks

1  endometriosis After recieving the first injection on Oct 9 2006 I had severe headaches for the for two weeks directly after the shot. I continued to have them not as bad as severe but still bad enough. Currently, it is six weeks after my shot. I have the hot flashes and some night sweats, as I expected, but I DID NOT expect this horrific joint pain. It is almost indesricebable. I am suppose to take another shot on Dec 31st but you can forget that buddy! I also learned after the shot the this is irreversable! By the way THIS IS NOT A CURE!!!!! It is only to TEMPORARILY stop the syptoms! My doctor should have been more informative about the possible serious side effects!!!!! Now I have to SUFFER for two-three more months. PLEASE BE CAUTIONED before taking this medicine. I don't believe that people who have taken this drug are being honest if they say this drug did'nt effect them. (WHETHER we react differently or not)Pray for me if you believe in prayer!! (I do) F 35 7 weeks

1  Large Fibroid, Non-Stop Bleeding Completely lost sex drive, acne (never had it before), excessive tiredness I am bleeding as much as ever and still experiencing severe clots. In addition to the severe anemia symptoms, I am now so tired most days I find it difficult to go about daily activities. I wish I had gone right for the hysterectomy and skipped this part of the treatment. F 36 30 days

1  Endo pain Severe insomnia, severe weight gain, severe hot flashes, muscle tenderness, joint pain, memory loss, mood swings, depression. I feel that taking Lupron was the worst mistake I ever made because of what it did to my body. Every body reacts differently to drugs but for me my body doesn't look or feel the same and No doctor can give me a reason why. I feel like there definatly needs to be more research and stats done on Lupron. The Script Assist people made me feel like I was crazy for blaming my weight gain and muscular pain on the Lupron. I am still trying to figure out what exactly changed in my body from this drug. In todays world you really need to be your on advocate because nobody else will! F 31 6 months

3  fibroids Night sweats, Hot flashes, Chills, Brain fog and memory issues, Weight gain (inability to feel full), Joint Stiffness in morning, Back pain, Fatigue, Vaginal odor (showers don't help), Loss of sex drive, Vaginal discharge I'm trying to keep my uterous. Will have surgery of some sort in Dec. I can't tell if the fibroid is shrinking, but I feel even more bloated and have bladder problems due to the fibroid size. I am very distrubed by my weight gain and my insatiable appetite. I will eat a meal, and still feel ravenous right after I'm done. This is very upsetting. I may have to join weight watchers again just to limit the damage. F 30 3 months

4  Endometriosis-stage 3 weight gain 35 lbs., headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, loss of sex drive, memory loss, fatigue, insomnia, vaginal dryness, vision problems Depot Lupron was my only option other than having a hysterectomy to relieve the Endo pain and to also preserve my uterus. I haven't had children due to the Endo and my doctor hoped that if the Endo could be eradicated from my system that maybe I would have a chance to concieve. My doctor also said that at 43 I was about 10 years away from going through Menopause and going through it 'naturally' is better on a body then forcing it to go through it because of a hysterectomy. So with my doctor's reccommendation I went with the Depot Lupron. I received four injections;Aug 2004, Nov 2004, Jan 2005 and Apr 2005. In Jan 2005 my doctor put me on Progestin to relieve the severity of the HOT flashes that I was getting every-hour-on-the-hour, 24 hours a day, with each episode lasting approximately 15". I was miserable and extremely tired from a lack of quality sleep. By Dec 2004 my weight had started increasing and after starting the Progestin my weight rapidily increased. By April 2005 I ha F 43 8 months

1  endometriosis extreme weight gain 40 lbs., headaches, mood swings, hot flashes, loss of sex drive, memory loss, fatigue, insomnia, vaginal dryness, vision problems I would not recommend that anyone take this medication. My endo was only a stage 2. I would much rather deal with the pain than all the side effects. I have now been off the shot for three years and am still experiencing these side effects. My weight gain is the worst part to me. It has led me to have decreased self-confidence. I did not really begin to realize the weight gain until it was too late. I feel this medicine was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I feel that my doctor could have given me a better option since my case was not severe. F 21 6 months

3  Premenopausal breast cancer Weight gain, loss of energy, dyspareunia, depression. I have taken this for estrogen sensitive breast cancer - to put me into a premature artifical menopause, so that I can take the anti-hormonal medications usually given to postmenopausal women. Lupron is called Prostap in the UK, and the 3-month injection has the same effects as the once-a-month injection, but (obviously) with only one injection every three months. Am now back on the once-a-month injections, this time with fulvestrant (faslodex) instead of arimidex, which stopped working. If the fulvestrant works, I might go back on the once-every-3-months injections. Otherwise, I shall go off both and have to undergo chemotherapy. Side effects include weight gain (including middle-age spread), tiredness, dry hair (?), vaginal atrophy (dyspareunia), etc. plus, not surprisingly, depression. F 49 6 months
