1  Treatment Res. Major Depression PHYSICAL Huge allergic reaction Hives, bloating, swollen joints, swollen lips and eyes, water retention in legs so are x3 the size, swollen lumps on soles if feet. PHYSICAL acid reflux. Anxiety, restlessness, anger and irritability, inability to nap even though exhausted, staying in bed feeling low and numb all day, crying for no reason. No interest in other people and inability to maintain conversation. Cloudy head all day, so exhausted unable to do tasks such as cooking meals need help to look after my kids from husband and parents as not feeling 'with it' This made me feel worse, I have re tried this drug x3 over six months each time its given me dehabiliting allergic reactions needing steroids. Psychiatrist set on pushing this on me not sure why. Just gone through 3 weeks on a 3rd attempt I cant live like this, having to take x4 strong prescription antihistamines just to try to control this and just does not work. I dont see why l should take even more drugs to support one my body clearly rejects? Also huge weight gain even when you are so depressed you cannot eat!!!! If your dr says it doesn't cause w.g if you eat healthily and dont snack exercise etc they are lying as it totally affects your metabolism!! I gained I was on orlistat for weight loss trying to lose weight from my first attempt on quetiapine (gained about 14 lbs) and it even stopped that from working. Ive only gone on to gain more weight due to being Ill with coronavirus and being too exhausted to exercise. I was around 134lbs I've easily gained 35lbs since I first tried Q in months. I've always been slim and keenly cardio exercises x4 a week before What's worse is that I did see a benefit first time around but not the times afterwards, it definitely caused me to feel worse not sure if this is because it affects my depression directly or because it caused anxiety and extreme fatigue and cloudy head adding to what I had already. All I know is that I cannot poison my body physically and mentally with this any longer F 33 31 days

3  Sleep Disorder Weight gain, Cholesterol issues. The worst was Restless Leg Syndrome. Tapering is easy, knock 25-50mg off at a time for a few days. I went from 350 to 300 pretty easily, next step is 300 to 250 and I'll keep pushing to take more off because there's just too many side effects. M 38 5 years

1  Chronic Insomnia I was prescribed Seroquel XR 600MG at h.s. for insomnia. The medication, without question, worked for my debilitating insomnia. However, what I could not tolerate was that I literally could not “get up” the next day. I was sleeping 12+ hours, and getting up around noon or even 1PM after going to bed at 12A. Obviously, I could not function during the day considering that “my day literally started at 1PM. My quack of a doctor has the philosophy of giving drugs to patients like candy, and practices the philosophy of giving “Uppers for downers, and downers for uppers” To mitigate the daytime grogginess, he actually put me on 90MG of Adderall (taken three times daily) His actions (and my naïveté) were becoming untenable. The other two side-effects consisted of experiencing “Akathisia’’ — which is a vague experience of internal restlessness..... For example, I found myself “walking around” I feel like I “said it all’ in the first column. However, I do not wish to scare people. Even though this drug clearly has deleterious effects on brain chemistry, the brain has something which is called Neuroplasticity meaning that even though a dangerous drug such as Seroquel can intermittently alter brain functioning, the brain can, and in fact, does consistently change (and actually grow neurons) to compensate for areas of the brain that have experienced damage, such that may be associated with Seroquel It is definitely possible to discontinue this drug. Titrate it down, and formulate a plan either with your doctor, or on your own. Do not hurry, or attempt to stop cold turkey. Try to develop a plan to decrease your dosage 10% a week. This may require you asking your doctor to prescribe you the 50mg tablets in some cases There is always hope, and even though this drug may have harmed you, (as it did to me) you have the power to ‘stop it’ and you have the power to: “Not Let it........WIN!  1  What my doctor calls "hypomania." I HATE the way this stuff makes me feel. It's terrible. It makes me feel groggy and drowsy, but it doesn't help me sleep. It makes my restless leg syndrome worse, just like antihistamines do. I also feel sick, kind of like a bad hangover. There's also kind of a jitteriness in the way I feel. It's like my muscles have been sedated but my nervous system hasn't. There's just as much anxiety as before taking the drug, but you feel so groggy and letharic that you can't do anything to ease the jitters. This is a terrible drug. My doctor prescribed it for a condition she calls hypomania, but after taking just half of a 50 mg pill I can tell that this is not what I need. The grogginess and lethargy might be okay if the drug actually helped me sleep, but it doesn't. It's like it both sedates and excites my nervous system at the same time, so my body and my mind are confused as hell. I couldn't wait for the effects of that 1/2 pill to wear off. My doctor said that she has had patients who take a 600 mg dose of this drug. I think 600 mg would kill me, seriously. The effect from just 25 mgs was almost too much for me to bear. If you decide to try this drug, be very careful. Better yet, don't take it. M 48 1 days

1  Bipolar 2 & insomnia fatigue, restlessness, vivid stress dreams, total lack of interest in sex, erectile dysfunction, feeling emotionally null, foggy mind on waking and getting worse throughout the day, next to impossible to wake up and get out of bed. So hard to get any quality of sleep with bipolar. Thought this was the solution, first night I was out like a light. Every night after that just left me drowsy, irritated, foggy and restless and when I did eventually get to sleep I was tormented with stress dreams. Rock and a hard place with these medications.  3  Schizophrenia Restless while being incredibly tired. Muscle spasms which subsided after 6 months.Sleep hangover. Excessive sleepiness. This was added to my Remeron, Risperdal, and Topamax. I had to be given Cogentin to counteract the side effects. It works great for my illness but the side effects make it too much to bear sometimes. F 19 1 years

2  Insomnia, depression Somnolence, restless legs, increased risk of diabetes, thyroid suppression. Added to Wellbutrin for depression and loved being able to sleep, though I didn't notice any improvement in depression (which I have had for 23 years). Cut dose in half to 25 mg due to restless legs. As the result of a routine thyroid test after 5 months, found I was at elevated risk for diabetes (other reviews have mentioned this) and thyroid, which had been fine for years, was suppressed. I weaned off over about a month and thyroid is returning to normal and diabetes marker is lower. I miss the sleep though, and occasionally take one for a night's rest, but am too scared of the other side effects to do more than that. Plus even on 25 mg I get a little sleep "hangover." While it helps with my mania and insomnia I cant help thinking how much better I felt when I was skinny. I stopped taking it for a week and I lost alot of weight quickly but I developed an intense fear of food. Unfortunately due to the stress that is my mother in law I had to go back on it. Im a good person and dont want to hurt anybody. Im also dissapointed in myself cuz i had almost no wirhdrawl symptoms. Now the fat zombie is back. F 26 2 years

5  BPD/Bipolar/Insomnia Weight gain, restless legs, apathy, terrible constipation, memory problems, lack of motivation for communication with people, it has affected my eyesight. Along with psychotherapy. this drug worked like magic. The weight gain however is frustrating. Was on 800mg down to 50mg. Am weaning myself off this drug as I am taking Zeldox, another antipsychotic. I want to lose weight. I will get another drug to sleep. I've had terrible times when trying to go cold turkey off this drug. F 47 6 years

5  bipolar disorder Weird, scary and awesome dreams. Feel like a zombie in the morning. Memory Loss, uncomfortable feeling in chest (sometimes), weight gain, restless legs, hallucianations I know the side effects are bad, but for someone who attempted suicide and ended in a coma several times because of depression and impulsive acts, it really helps. I will never stop using my meds. I couldn't be a more happy person and everyone noticed the change and when I hear all the horror stories about who I was, I'm grateful for meds like this! And it makes you sleep, which I could barely do before the meds (3 out of 24 hours). Sad thing is I had to give up flying because of my meds, but it's worth it! F 25 3 years

2  bi polar dry mouth , stuffy nose, woke up and had pounding heart and sweats, felt weird in my head, can't explain it. gained about 15#, with barely eating any more food. Take it 2 hrs. before bed and still can't sleep , sometimes wake up with palpatations, sweating, panic feeling and terrible pains in my feet and legs. I take meds for RLS. I feel scared and alone and don't know what to do when this happens because everyone else is asleep. Sometimes I go outside or stand over ac vent place a wash cloth on my head and try to wait for the feeling to subside. sometimes its over 15 minutes. 2 days ago got 45minutes of sleep and was miserable. At first the med didn't do this to me, with the exception of dry mouth. I went on generic from Canada of SR and don't remember the palpatations and sweats. Some nights I spend half the night placing and replacing the sheet and blanket. I can't get my body temp. right no matter what I do, I go from freezing cold to sweating. The Seroquel did help the moods thou I would take with caution and be aware of the Side Effects and don't wait to report them to Dr. I waited almost 4 weeks mostly because I thought they would go away, instead they got worse along with the foot and leg and back pain and the regulation of the body temperature. I thought the XR was for me because took the regular stuff before and the leg pain was so unbearable I had to discontue it. F 58 6 months

3  insomnia, mood swings Was on this drug for almost a year. Had to discontinue due to restless leg (so bad it kept me awake for hours... insomnia was the main reason I was on the drug.) Also toward the end of a year memory loss (was at a store counter filling out a form and could not remember my address!)and weight gain. Restless leg aside, it was great at first. Slept solid, no waking up, did not gain weight, increased libido. It turned on me after about 11 months. Had to discontinue. M 47 1 years

4  Bipolar diagnosis I take 400mg before bed. Dry Mouth during later part of the night and in the morning. Wake up 2x/night to drink something. Extreme restlessness on the back of my legs 2-3 hours after taking seroquel. Taking pain killers to stop the leg restlessness. Late night hunger, but that might that might just be me :). In my opinion bettter than other medicines, less physically tramatic. I'm still not as metally balenced as I would like to be but I am able to function day to day. I make lists of things to do and check them off. I am very lucky my family has stuck by me thru this. M 45 3 years

3  Cyclothamic Depression & Schizotype Restless Leg Sydrome (Horrible) - Hunger ALL the time (Weight Gain) - Constipation (Had to use laxatives) - Cannot find words that fit on end of sentences - Tired ALL the time - Sleep until 4pm sometimes - Made me addicted to smoking (Because it makes you crave everything going) This drug was ok at the start. The lower dose was very sedating and I liked it. But now I take it and I can't relax anymore because it gives me RLS kinda like foot cramps and jiggly feet. Watching a film or reading a book is pointless as my feet just anger me. Sometimes punch my feet it is THAT bad! Wake up with feet in air! Eat so many sugary foods. Start of year I was 9 and a half stone, now I am 11 and a half!!!!! Constipation makes me cry. I sleep until tea time 4pm (as I don't work due to illness). I want to come off this drug, but if I don't take it I can't sleep! It's ruining my life! F 26 4 months

3  depression, schizotypal PD shortness of breath, arrhthymias, restlessness, cognitive slowing. Restlessness wasn't as bad as abilify. Best antipsychotic out there in terms of affecting flat affect. Caused shortness of breath and an allergic reaction when combined with artane and albuterol. Some muscle spasms, but not as bad as other antipsych drugs. Would have taken it longer if not for side effects. M 26 11 months
