1  Food allergies and hay fever Severe anxiety, panics and racing heart beat This medication didn't help my allergies and made me have awful anxiety to the point where I thought I was going to harm myself. Really frightening and won't be using again, I'd rather sneeze than go back on this. F 37 7 days

2  Seasonal allergies & sinus issues After a few days of taking the Allegra (12 hour tablets) I started to feel better, so I decided to take it everyday as soon as I would wake up. Well, after about 4-5 days I found myself feeling very off, dizzy, and unable to concentrate. My nasal congestion has exacerbated while taking this medication. I also felt as if my ears became inflamed with liquid. Thought it was just me but after reading other consumer’s reviews, this appears to be quite common. Don’t know why these side effects are not labeled on the box. I switched to Allegra after having absolutely terrible anxiety and night terrors while taking Claritin, but the dizziness and head fog might actually be worse than the anxiety I developed from Claritin. Just bought some Zyrtec.... hopefully that helps. F 24 2 weeks

1  Allergic Rhinitis I experienced every side effect listed. Terrible stomach pain, headaches, drowsiness, lack of concentration, dizziness, frequent bathroom trips and vertigo. I'd rather have allergies than take this stuff ever again. They claim your body will adapt but it's making it hard to do my job. Quitting today and will stick to nasal spray. I do not recommend this to anyone. This is the 1st drug I've ever taken that completely backfired on me. M 39 10 days

1  Seasonal allergies In the beginning, random muscle pains in my legs/thighs, legs felt exhausted, unnatural "off" feeling, exhausted. A few days later, pain & tenderness at my spine (mainly upper spine) that persisted for almost a month and a half & did not have near my normal energy level, random pins and needles feelings in my feet and hands, feelings of despair throughout. My legs would feel very restless at night, eventually my joints and tendons began aching badly at my ankles, wrists, and elbows. I was racking my mind to think of what brought this on. Doctor said I was negative for lymes disease, and checked blood counts with no explanation. I had started taking Allegra over the counter for the first time ever when all this started to happen. I have been off for 3 weeks now but am still experiencing pain in my joints and a Restless feeling in my legs, limited range of movement (muscles) and just an off and even occasionally panicky feeling. I can't go on like this forever will somebody please email me and tell me if these symptoms ever stop. M 38 21 days

It was awful; I am still experiencing some of these effects although I quit taking Allegra 3 days ago. Scary otc drug; it stole a month from my life. Tests at doctor, etc M 38 0 weeks

1  Seasonal allergies My son is 12 and has been taking for about 3 weeks. He is going through puberty and this made him a raging, crying, physical, moody person who wanted to forget life. I remember that I had given this to him a few years back and had some mood problems. I tried again thinking it may not cause the same problems, because the med does help with his allergies. Well, never again. He had a horrible evening tonight, which made me research this and realize he is off for good now. I threw away the meds already. This should not be given to children. Especially those going through puberty who already are having a rough time with changes from hormones!! This only intensifies all of their feelings and it is very scary. Not for kids!!! I am writing this to warn parents of the horrible side effects. M 12 3 weeks

1  Seasonal allergies Just a couple hours after taking the Allegra each time, I experienced what felt like a sudden drop in blood pressure, accompanied by dizziness and weakness. It lasted nearly the whole day. I had just run out of Zyrtec and tried switching up meds so I don’t grow tolerant - let me tell you, it ain’t worth it! I’ll be going right back to Zyrtec. F 28 2 days

1  Allergies I started Allegra Saturday morning after discontinuing loratidine (Claritin). By Sunday afternoon, I began to feel dizzy. Within 1/2 hour I couldn't stand. My heart was beating rapidly (160 bpm) for about 20 minutes. Heart rate slowed down, but the room kept spinning. I vomited once. I attempted to go to work Monday, but my husband had to pick me up (extreme dizziness returned). Urgent care gave me clean bill of health and diagnosed it as a case of Vertigo. They gave me an injection and a prescription for Antivert. It did not occur to me that the Allegra was the only change I had made until this morning (Thursday). So after 5 days of taking Allegra in the morning, I discontinued it. I found on numerous websites that the sever vertigo seemed to happen in others taking this medication. It appears that it will take 3-4 days for the drug to completely leave my system. In the meantime, I am extremely dizzy, jittery, dry mouth and weakness through out my body. F 46 5 days

1  Seasonal allergies So it helped with my allergies but left me feeling both nights like I was going to pass out (very light headed) and made much of the left side of my body numb. I pretty much never take medication unless totally necessary. I’ll take the stuffy nose and sore throat over feeling like I’m having a stroke. Didn’t think about Allegra as the cause the first night, the second night when it started around the same time I googled and found all these other folks with odd or similar symptoms. Call it confromation bias but I’m done with this stuff. Seek out natural remedies, I have a PT test in two days and tried to expedite getting well and ended up screwing myself over. M 27 2 days

1  Seasonal allergies Started feeling off the first few days. On day five, about an hour after taking my dose, I got incredibly hot and nauseous. Proceeded to have the worst panic attack I’ve ever had, lasting two hours. Mentioned it to my mom and sister and trey had similar experiences. If you are even the tiniest bit sensitive to any kind of stimulant, avoid this drug. There are plenty other options out there. M 25 5 days

2  Environmental allergies I had to take a liquid, because I cannot swallow pills. After swallowing the liquid, on my tongue felt tingly for 2-3 minutes. It upset my stomach, made me tired and increased my anxiety. It did not help my allergies, in fact the dizziness I was having was made worse by the medication. I have better luck by just using a saline spray. F 39 5 days

1  Sinus Pressure (Ragweed Allergy) Release of pressure after 60 mins, then side effects followed each time! Tremors while Falling asleep (muscle and body shaking all over), increased anxiety, no appetite, inability to sleep, increased heart rate. Absolutely a mess. Never again. Tossed the remaining dose and was happy to throw away after spending $30. Recommended by CVS employee when I was looking for relief. I’ll stick with the allergies and pressure. Tremors were horrible!!! M 30 4 days

1  Dust allergies, hay fever My ENT consultant prescribed this antihistamine as it wouldn’t make me drowsy... well I started taking it and felt like my hay fever was under control- then a few days in, started feeling weird.. can’t really explain it... sort of anxious, depressed and dizzy! Just awful, I’ve driven my husband and kids mad as all I’ve done is complained .. then I started going numb and tingly and sort of jittery down my right arm/ hand and my right calf... I felt like I was going crazy... I don’t take any other meds ... so then looked up fexafendne (Allegra) and saw lots of people had the same problem.. in a Way it was a massive relief to be honest!!- I’ve now stopped taking them.. and NEVER AGAIN!!.. I’d rather have hay fever!! I still feel a little bit dizzy and my ears have felt full.. but in now just using my steroid nasal spray.... I def WOULD NOT recommend this drug!... I’ve just wasted a weeks holiday feeling like a zombie and honestly thought I was loosing the plot!! F 50 14 days

1  Allergic Rhinitis/Allergic Asthma The only thing that Allegra helped with is that it stopped me from wheezing. All other symptoms of allergic rhinitis actually got worse while I was taking it. After a couple of weeks of taking it, I noticed a complete loss of smell and taste. Googled it, and apparently this is fairly common with allegra although is not listed on the side effects in the leaflet. Stopped taking it and my sense of taste has started to return, although not completely. F 22 3 weeks

4  allergies, environmental type none Great OTC antihistamine. Non-sedating. Great on itching/hives. Works FAST for a 24 hr. antihistamine (within an hour). Wears off at exactly the 24 hr. mark. Only problem is the cost. Even generic fexofenadine is much more expensive than generic loratadine. Loratadine is much better value. M 20 2 years
