Like a switch went off and was in the clear. Then developed inner hostility, rage and irritability by week 3. Triggered a hypomanic episode and I don't have any mood disorder. Just severe anxiety. My cholesterol doubled, my BP which was normal required medication And I needed a statin. Gained 20lbs in 1 month. Off for 3 days and all the negative feelings are gone. I really thought this was the winner. Through it all, no anxiety. No panic. But made me so stressed and frustrated I had to stop it | M | 40 | 2 months 0.5 1X day | 9/5/2020 | 2 | Bipolar Disorder | Rexulti worked fine for my bipolar and eliminated all of my manic and depressive symptoms. However, almost from the beginning I experienced extreme fatigue. Fatigue is different from tiredness or drowsiness in that you have no energy or motivation all day long. Had to quit my part-time night job because I was too tired to finish out the day. My doctor foolishly had me on the highest dose (4mg), which is for schizophrenia, so I weaned myself down to 2 mg, then 1 mg, then .5. Made no difference. Got to the point where I was so fatigued I couldn't get out of bed at all. Couldn't do simple household chores or grocery shopping or my daytime job (I work from home so have flexible hours). The only way I got my energy back was to stop Rexulti completely. Then all my energy and motivation returned within a week. Tried other antipsychotics but I had very poor reaction. So, started the Rexulti again at low dose of 1 mg, but fatigue returned same as before. Now I have stopped it again due to this intolerable side effect. Note: not everyone experiences fatigue from antipsychotics, but it is a known side effect of anti-psychotics and antidepressants. If you are susceptible to this side effect, then Rexulti will hit you hard. So unfortunate, because otherwise a very effective drug. I did not experience weight gain but I did have some cravings for carbohydrates. Finally there is no generic of this drug, so my cost for 30 tablets was $186 with insurance. | Good, effective drug for bipolar disorder, although it was not designed for this. Used as a mood stabilizer in conjunction with an antidepressant (Trintellix). My cholesterol was already high but this med sent it to 260. The worst side effect was withdrawal dyskinesia and akathesia. This is different from tardive dyskinesia in that it came on AFTER I stopped the drug, which masked it as it developed. Now, I have uncontrollable movements of my tongue and jaw, constantly sucking, chewing and swallowing. As a result my teeth are getting sensitive, my jaw is clenched and sore and I actually have calluses on my tongue. I also rock when I sit and can't stop jiggling my right leg. I can stop these symptoms temporarily if I really really concentrate, but I can't keep my attention on them all the time. I am afraid the dyskinesia may be permanent. Sometimes it is. I think it did help with my mood swings but had a general flattening effect. I stopped it for the weight gain and cholesterol issues, but had no idea it had damaged me so. | These side effects can occur with this whole family of antipsychotics. Judge for yourself if the risks outweigh the benefits.
