ARIMIDEX  (ANASTROZOLE):  Anastrozole is used to treat breast cancer in women after menopause. Some breast cancers are made to grow faster by a natural hormone called estrogen. Anastrozole decreases the amount of estrogen the body makes and helps to slow or reverse the growth of these breast cancers.   FDA Approval Date: 1995-12-27 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  BC stage 1B Severe joint pain, vision getting much worse, poor sleep, hot flashes mostly at night. My leg pain is so severe I can barely walk. I was switched from tamoxifen because of a DVT. They just took me off arimidex and am now on Femara no relief yet. Very bad drug if you have ovaries and/or not through menopause for many years. F 57 8 months

1  Stage 2 breast cancer Joint pain in big toes for 2 months and then it resolved itself. Severe joint pain began in left hand knuckle of middle finger and spread to other knuckles and fingers of ring and pinkie. Trigger finger, especially at night. Spread to right hand the same as left. Stopped taking medication for 2 weeks now and still getting worse instead of better. Began a 6 day/21 pill pack of Methylprednisolone, pain and swelling 80% better, 4 days in pack. Hoping it continues to relieve the pain and swelling caused by this medication. Would never take it again. F 54 6 months

3  stage 2 breast cancer Just recently started taking Arimidex after having chemo and surgery for breast cancer, still awaiting radiation. I am experiencing severe pain in my shoulder joints, pain in my feet and hips. I cannot raise my arms more than a couple of inches without pain. My neck has also begun to ache. I suppose this could be tolerable if the outcome is complete cure of breast cancer. If only we could be sure. F 49 18 days

1  stage 1 bc Body aches and pains, weight gain of 15 kg, stiffness and pain in fingers and toes. Right now I am limping around because my left ankle and leg are getting really sore, so much so that I can't work. Yet to have a diagnosis on this. Seems they hav no idea. Would love to know if it is the arimidex. I feel like I've aged 15 yrs. Don't know if it's worth it. :( I hate it. No way I am taking it for 10 years. F 51 1 years

5  Breast Cancer stage 3 Joints ache, high cholesterol, osteopenia, hot flashes in the beginning. I posted about 3 years ago and stated exercise has really helped to lower cholesterol and with joint pain. I do need to add that my 5 years was over in May but new studies have shown that 10 years on Arimidex really is better than 5 years. My oncologist suggested I keep taking the Arimidex After a double mastectomy, chemo, and radiation, I can deal with this if it will prevent my cancer from returning. The only reason I rated this a 5 is I believe it has kept my cancer from returning. F 59 5 years

3  Breast Cancer, Stage 1A Was fine for first two years. Then started with knee pain. It gradually got worse until 4 years, 4 months. At that point, I could stand for only a few minutes at a time. I felt very unstable, and was tottering. Ice and pain reliever helped only a little. With consent of my oncologist, I stopped taking it. I have been off for 4 weeks. I'm getting my strength back and have started to exercise again. I still have some knee pain. I start limping in the afternoon. My doctor said I got the major benefit. Quality of life is now more important. F 68 4 years
