ANORO ELLIPTA  (UMECLIDINIUM BROMIDE; VILANTEROL TRIFENATATE):  This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (such as wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). Controlling symptoms of breathing problems helps you stay active. This inhaler contains 2 medications: umeclidinium and vilanterol. Both drugs work by relaxing the muscles around the airways in the lungs so they open up to make breathing easier. Umeclidinium belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics, and vilanterol is a LABA medication (see also Warning section). Both drugs are also known as bronchodilators. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden shortness of breath. If sudden breathing problems occur, use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed. This medication is not approved to treat asthma.   FDA Approval Date: 2013-12-18 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

I am allergic to all sulfa drugs - and all sulfite, sulfate, all sulfa agents (like aluminum sulfate, calcium sulfate) in foods, so sulfurs that are contained in other inhalers that have the S2 in their compound are a problem for me. Anoro has been great for me - no side effects, easy to use, works well. F 61 16 months

1  COPD Swollen throat, chest pain, difficulty breathing I used Anoro one time (doctor gave me a sample) and it was a terrible experience. Immediately upon inhaling I felt chest pain, which went away after a minute. However, within five minutes, I felt my throat swelling shut and had trouble breathing. I was so scared I thought I would have to go to the emergency room. I tried to remain calm, and after three hours I could breathe somewhat normally again. Fifteen hours later I still had a sore throat, dry mouth and hoarseness. Anoro tastes horrible. It has an extremely strong, long-lasting chemical taste, sort of what it must be like to swallow motor oil. Absolutely will never use Anoro again. My usual inhaler is Breo Ellipta (made by same company) and Breo has never made me feel sick. F 68 1 days

1  COPD Anoro was prescribed to improve my breathing. It didn't improve my breathing. After about 8 days on it I had such severe muscle and joint aches and pain and such severe leg cramps I could barely walk and felt prone to falling. As it was not helping my breathing I quit taking it because of the side effects. M 73 10 days
