UCERIS  (BUDESONIDE):  This medication is used to treat certain bowel conditions (such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis). While budesonide does not cure these conditions, it may decrease symptoms such as pain and diarrhea. Budesonide is an anti-inflammatory drug (corticosteroid hormone). It works by decreasing the body's natural defense response (immune response).   FDA Approval Date: 2013-01-14 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  CrohnsDisease The first 1-2 doses caused some nausea, and side effects similar to oral systemic steroids. After that there are no side affects other than increased appetite. This is an incredible medicine just plain amazing but it is still very expensive. It works in the colon. It is superior to entocort but it will not work in the small bowel while entocort will. Sadly such few doctors prescribe it and even fewer pharmacies keep it in stock. I always have to ask for it. M 48 2 years

4  Ulcerative Colitis Zero side effects. Within days of taking UCERIS my stools become more formed, had less visits to the bathroom and cramping stopped. UCERIS did not stop my flare completely, but it definitely helped. After dealing with prednisone in the past, UCERIS is amazing. The only negative about UCERIS is the price! If my GI didn't give me 2 months worth of samples I wouldn't be able to afford this medicine. It would have been $1,000/mo with my insurance and the discount card provided by my GI - ridiculous!
