5 | Type 2 Diabetes | Slight nausea, loss of appetite. Otherwise, it has kept my A 1-c under complete control. | It is way TOO EXPENSIVE......I am fortunate to have found insurance that will help pay for it. The purpose of manufacturing a successful drug is to help people get better......not to see how much money you can make on their misfortune..... | F | 69 | 6 months 2 50-1000m 1X day | 5/2/2016 |
JANUMET XR (METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE; SITAGLIPTIN PHOSPHATE): Sitagliptin/metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. This product contains 2 medications: sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes. Metformin works by helping to restore your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. It also decreases the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb. FDA Approval Date: 2012-02-02 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
