1 | PVCs | Weight gain, constipation, swollen ankles | Doesn't help the PVCs consistently, still have them every day. | F | 67 | 35 days 30 3X day | 2/13/2023 | 2 | PVCs, | Low heart rate, insomnia, constipation, fatigue, headache | Still didn't really help the PVCs | F | 67 | 60 days 30 mg 3X day | 1/24/2023 | 1 | BP | Flushing of face, headache all night, insomnia, bizarre dreams. Nausea, not eating well, dizziness. Diarrhea real bad this morning 3X ... | Would not recommend. | F | 70 | 3 days 180 mg 1X day | 9/24/2021 | 3 | Hypertension. Irregular hear beat | Frequent urination, more constipated than normal, mild fuzzy headache. | Controlled heartbeat well, only minor lowering effect on high bp. Was increased to 180mg per day which further reduced bp but gave constant headache, so back to 120mg. | M | 56 | 2 months 120 1X day | 9/14/2021 | 3 | Afib | Low heart rate. Extremely fatigued, especially in the morning. | I'd be very careful about taking this drug. I ended up with an at rest, or sleeping, heart rate of 40-50 bpm. Two different cardiologists just shrugged their shoulders when I told them about it. I had to quit it on my own. | M | 68 | 4 years 120er 1X day | 7/24/2021 | 3 | Arrhythmia and tachycardia | Fine for 2 months but then started to get warm, tingling sensations in my face. They became more and more persistent until I felt like my face was burning all the time, and the sensation began to move to my arms. Skin became super dry and felt severely sunburnt. Doctor advised me to quit taking it. | Worked really well to lower my heart rate and made arrhythmia much less frequent. Oddly increased my blood pressure. | F | 48 | 3 months 120 1X day | 1/10/2021 | 1 | High blood pressure | Dizziness, chest pains ( which I rarely ever had) , this drug plain scared the crap out of me. Acid reflux. It felt like my heart was gonna pound out of my dang chest. | F | 42 | 3 days 180 er 1X day | 12/15/2020 | 3 | High blood pressure | Night sweats, hot flashes, cold flashes, chills, fatigue, lightheaded and very anxious, depressed | My doctor said that all the side effects should be gone in 3 weeks or he will change the medicine | F | 45 | 2 weeks 240 mg 1X day | 12/2/2020 | 1 | PVC's | Shortness of breath began roughly 4 days after starting this medication... Followed closely by nausea, tingling, loss of appetite and congestion... I was originally on Metoprolol ER 50 Mg for years however after PVCs worsened in early 2020, doctors increased the Metoprolol to 100 mg, which triggered asthma attacks (had severe Asthma as a kid) so moved over to Diltiazem. Additionally, while Diltiazem seems to help with the PVCs, it doesn't help with my blood pressure.... Hoping to try something else... Any suggestions would be great.... | M | 46 | 10 days 120mg 1X day | 9/12/2020 | 1 | Svt | Taking generic form Diltiazem. Weak, shaky and heat intolerance along with nausea one week after starting this med. | F | 64 | 2 months 30 mg per 1X day | 8/11/2020 | 4 | Arrhythmia | Gives me a boost of energy! Was on biso for 12 years which killed my energy and sex drive. On it now for 2 weeks and feel better. Readings are all in range. A few side effects are bloating, lack of sleep. But hey, I feel better and now have a sex drive. | M | 49 | 2 weeks 120 2X day | 7/17/2020 | 3 | Afib | 180 mg was making me lethergic. Lowered to 120mg and was much better but feeling weak. Will ask doctor if I can stop for a month and see what happens. | M | 73 | 100 days 120 mg | 6/23/2020 | 1 | Unexplained chest pain for months | Very low blood pressure to high blood pressure, EXTREME fatigue, could barely function | Felt extremely horrible on this drug! Be cautious- it' is really for A-Fib patients. Do not take unnecessarily. I Could hardly get out of bed on this drug! It laid me out for about 10 weeks and I'm still not back to normal! Could not function at all - felt like I was going to die! Dropped my blood pressure so low then would spike so high - almost had 2 ER visits from this drug! I've been off for four weeks and am still not back to normal. I already had anemia before taking it. Caused major anxiety and insomnia! I still can not sleep at night. It caused me to go majorly downhill in health. I've lost tons of hair too. Cardiologist said to try it for my several months long undiagnosable chest pain. Worst decision ever! All these scary episodes during middle of Covid-19 crisis making getting medical help more difficult. Doctors should stop prescribing crap just to prescribe something- Especially if you do not have a diagnosis for it! I weigh 100lbs and he prescribed a heavy dose- 180mg- I swear it felt like he was trying to kill me! It is meant for A-Fib patients- use with caution and drill your Cardiologist on whether you really are a good candidate for this drug, side effects and risks vs benefits. I switched Cardiologists after this horrific experience. Always good to seek second opinion (and sometimes 3rd opinion). I was able to do 2nd opinion with another doctor via Telemedicine appointment. I | F | 46 | 6 weeks 180mg | 5/23/2020 | 5 | SVT, PSVT, Heart-Arrhythmia | Brain Fog, Dizziness | The medicine did half the job or less, what really changed my SVT episodes was eating foods high of potassium and magnesium (Banana’s and Avocados.) Avoiding sugar and carbohydrates also helps. I haven’t gone a day without going through severe brain fog and dizziness. I also experience pain similar to pericarditis here and there. My recommendation is before starting this medicine, try eating healthy for a week and see if you experience any changes. Had I tried sooner, I wouldn’t have taken Diltiazem. It highly reduces the quality of life. | M | 25 | 4 months 120 1X day | 3/20/2020 | 3 | Blood pressure/ heart rate | Nausea, dizziness, headache, fuzzy head feeling. | Wish my physician would change this med. Too many side effects. I feel good until I take the med. | M | 60 | 100 days 180 | 1/11/2019 | 5 | High Blood Pressure | Constipation | This drug has really helped me. My headaches stopped and my BP is now down in a normal range. I have been taking this medication for a long time. The only side effect that I get is constipation, so I take a philips caplet at night and problem solved. | F | 53 | 5 years 300 1X day | 8/14/2018 | 4 | Angina | Low blood pressure, slow heart rate. Fatigue. | I don't know where I would be without this drug!! I have unexplained chest pain every single day severely! This makes it go away 85-90%. Not sure why and no doctor can explain it either, but it works: | F | 33 | 1 years 15mg 4xday | 6/22/2018 | 1 | Blood pressure and high pulse | Nightmares, so tired could not function . Blood pressure went high to low. Bad drug I took myself off. Dr. Wanted me to stay on but no way | F | 63 | 10 days 240 | 4/6/2017 | 4 | afib | Used for afib but being an unusual individual, I have very low blood pressure anyway. It took my body about 6 weeks to adjust as it did lower it more. Sometimes way too low. It does keep afib in check unless I get under extreme stress. | F | 58 | 2 years 120mg | 3/29/2017 | 2 | Arrythmia. | Had to switch from bisoprolol solved problem but caused intolerable g.i. problems. Two days in with cardizem and having palps and fast pulse. Is it the drug making the problem worse or is it just not working or too early to tell. | F | 62 | 2 days 30mgx3 | 1/28/2017 |
CARDIZEM CD (DILTIAZEM HYDROCHLORIDE): Diltiazem is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and prevent chest pain (angina). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. When used regularly, diltiazem can decrease the number and severity of episodes of chest pain from angina. It may help increase your ability to exercise. Diltiazem is called a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing blood vessels in the body and heart so blood can flow more easily. Diltiazem also lowers your heart rate. These effects help the heart work less hard and lower blood pressure. FDA Approval Date: 1999-08-24 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
