PENTASA  (MESALAMINE):  This medication is used to treat a certain bowel disease (ulcerative colitis). It helps to reduce symptoms of ulcerative colitis such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and stomach pain. Mesalamine belongs to a class of drugs known as aminosalicylates.  3  Crohn's disease No side effects I hate that I have to take 16 pills a day of this drug, that is the worst part. I dont know if it is helping or not, but Im told Ill be taking it for the rest of my life or until there is a cure for Crohn's. F 29 1.5 years

 2  Crohn's disease I did not experience any side effects. I just don't think this drug works for me. It doesn't seem to do much and I think it's a waste of effort, considering that the dosages are high and it has to be taken often. F 27 1.5 years
