The only annoying is constipation. | Much calmer and happier overall. It didn't remove OCD thoughts, but definitely helped with panic reactions and anxious behaviour. | F | 34 | 2 days 75 mg 1X day | 11/17/2020 | 5 | Extreme Anxiety, OCD | Brain Zapping on and off. Extremely sensitive skin unable to sunbathe burn very easily even when using high factor sun cream. | Life changing! Had many problems with SSRIs over the past 10 years I was allergic to everything but Anafranil along side Lamotrigine is a game changer for me and my family. I am much better person and feel so much better than ever before. | F | 39 | 2 years 50 MG | 5/28/2020 | 5 | Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder | Depression, fatigue, tiredness | I've tried just about every SSRI available and nothing has ever subsided by OCD the way Anafranil does. I would go as far to call this medication a life-saver. If you're willing to brace some bad depression for the first two months or so of taking it, the effects are very much worth it. | F | 16 | 1.5 years 125 MG 1X day | 5/26/2020 | 5 | Anxiety, major depression, OCD | Constipation, Short term memory loss, hand tremor, weight gain... all minor but much better than not taking the medicine. | My Doctor quickly upped the dosage higher and higher. Over 150 mg at one point. I cut it down to 25 mg and kept it that was for many years. Now I have reduced it to 10 mg. Doctors like to increase the dosage but I feel fine now at 10 mg. My Doctor is aware that I cut it back. Anafranil is an old drug but was brand new when I first started. I tried the newer drugs but they don't work for me. Zoloft was terrible. I also tried Citalopram, Wellbutrin and others but for me I seem to do best with Anafranil. What works for one person won't always work for another. Anafranil is a miracle drug for me. | M | 49 | 32 years 10 1X day | 12/22/2017 | 5 | Ocd | M | 22 | 3 weeks 25 | 2/28/2016 | 5 | ocd, anxiety, bulimia | nausea, acid reflux if I don't eat right after taking it | The only med out of 6 or 7 antidepressants I tried for my anxiety/ocd/eating disorder. I take dramamine for if I'm not the driver in the car. I feel SO much better than I have since I was 7 years old. My bulimia is totally gone. | F | 29 | 2 years 150 1X day | 1/13/2016 | 5 | depression | Hypergydrose, tremor, low blood pressure, hypo-salivation. | This antidepressant only helped me. | M | 34 | 1 years 150 | 12/6/2014 | 5 | OCD anxiety depression | Nil except a little drowsiness first couple of days | I am stunned at how effective this is for me. I am taking it in conjunction with Quetiapine. I have taken many other antidepressants but nothing has touched the anxiety which feeds the OCD until I started this. In one week my stomach has completely unknotted, I am stable and happy and my compulsions are coming under control. I could not be more happy so far. | F | 54 | 7 days 75mg 1X day | 9/15/2014 | 5 | OCD. mood disorder. depression. | M | 18 | 1 days | 6/22/2014 | 5 | ocd, anxiety, depression | I first took this medicine in 1992 when I was diagnosed with ocd, anxiety and depression. I felt well and lived a wonderful and productive life but when I became pregnant my psychiatrist told me I had to stop taking it as it was not a "safe enough" drug during pregnancy. After, I tried other anti-depressants but they always stopped working after a number of years. Finally, after having reached rock bottom a month ago, I asked my doctor about anafranil and believe it or not, from the first day I took the small dose of 25 mg, I felt a change in my head. I now am happy, healthy and the intrusive thoughts are almost gone and when they do appear, they disappear so fast and the anxiety associated with them is not there. Yes, there are some side-effects but there are with every medication. I would highly recommend this medication to anyone suffering from these illnesses. | M | 5 weeks 100 mg | 3/27/2014 | 5 | OCD and Depression | Extreme dry eye, short term memory probs | CURED the OCD I have had since I was 8! Helping depression as well. Better sex drive. More creative. Much happier. I have schizoaffective disorder as well, and controlling the OCD is lessening my psychosis. | F | 35 | 5 weeks 50-75 1X day | 1/16/2014 | 5 | OCD | Loss of interest in sex, inorgasmia, impotence | Lifesaver for keeping OCD at bay, also stops my insomnia and allows me to wake up at a normal time without feeling groggy all day which I cannot do otherwise. Great feeling of being at peace. | M | 31 | 15 years 100mg 1X day | 12/27/2013 | 5 | Severe OCD; Depression; Anxiety | Side Effects: Fatigue; Constipation; Good sleep; Good sex | M | 17 | 10 months 150 mg | 11/3/2013 | 5 | M | 53 | 1 days | 10/19/2013 | 5 | panic disorder, anxiety, dread | Dizziness, lower sex drive, inability to orgasm, dullness. | M | 19 | 6 weeks 100mg | 1/19/2013 | 5 | OCD | Dry Mouth | F | 41 | 275 1X day | 1/8/2013 Patient History | 5 | OCD, Depression | Dry mouth, constipation | F | 60 | 10 years 100mg ? | 3/6/2012 |
ANAFRANIL (CLOMIPRAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE): Clomipramine is used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It helps decrease persistent/unwanted thoughts (obsessions), and it helps reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, checking) that interfere with daily living. This medication belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin, among others) in the brain. FDA Approval Date: 1989-12-29 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
