5 | OCD | Difficulty getting to an orgasm. | It has helped the OCD to a great deal. I've tried replacing it with Prozac, it didn't work at all. I switched back to Chlomipramine (Anafranil) again. | 12 years | 6/26/2007 | 5 | Depression, Anxiety, Obsessions | Dry Mouth, Sweatiness, Longer time till orgasm | Within a week this medicine has near completely erased my depression, panic, anxiety and mild OCD. Each day gets better and I havent even made it up to 50 mg's yet. So much better than SSRI's and with fewer side effects - plus it doesnt numb you into hapiness, just amplifies everything good about life! | 22 | 2 weeks | 1/29/2008 | 4 | Severe OCD | Increased thirst, orgasmic dysfunction, orthostatic hypotension, constipation | Was on 80mg of Prozac for 25 years and basically OCD symptom-free. Prozac stopped working and was put on 200mg Luvox. Helped a lot with OCD but made me so tired I fell asleep briefly behind the wheel once. Now on max dose of Anafranil for OCD (250mg). It’s lights out for OCD but with really annoying side effects. It’s only been three months but I am thinking of going back to an SSRI like Zoloft and see if that helps with fewer side effects. If not, I’ll probably be on Clomipramime for life. It’s all about trade-offs since no med is perfect I think. | 49 | 3 days 250mg | 3/23/2020 | 3 | Anxiety | Blood pressure fluctuation | 70 | 3 days 25 | 4/7/2020 | 3 | | 3/1/2006 | 3 | | 12/26/2001 | 3 | | 1/21/2005 | 2 | Ocd | Terrible heartburn, brain fog and nausea. Rather live with Ocd than take anymore of this evil medication | 58 | 4 weeks 25 1X day | 1/8/2022 | 1 | | 12/4/2008 | 5 | Depression, BDD | Dry mouth, dizziness(1st weeks) loss of sex drive and orgasm (1st months), weight gain, drowsiness, constipation, vivid nightmares (when i forget to take it) | I felt better almost immediately after taking this drug. I have tried a number of SSRIs and other drugs without relief. This drug has completely turned my life around. Suicidal thoughts, days spent hiding in bed, frequent bouts of crying, are all bad memories. I have so much more energy and have developed a lust for life that I haven't had since I was young. Within months of starting this drug my life turned around - I got the job I'd dreamed of, I moved out of my parent's home, weekends started filling up again. Now I have a career, a full social life and am living independently. On the down side I have put on 10kg in 6 months. I went through a period of not being able to achieve orgasm but that has passed. And if I forget to take it at night I get bad nightmares. I also feel drowsy in the mornings and it takes me a while to wake up. All in all the positive effects far outweigh the side effects though. | F | 26 | 6 months | 4/19/2008 | 5 | OCD/disturbing reoccurring thoughts | Constipation, Sleep ALOT, no orgasm, black out when stand up too fast | LOVE it. I've been having awful thoughts for many years and I had no idea that anything could stop them. Anafranil has saved my life. I no longer go to sleep fearful, so far, so good. | F | 21 | 1 months | 3/16/2009 | 5 | Depression/Anxiety | Sweating, weight gain (about 20 lbs) other than that none really. | I have tried all SSRI's and this so far is the best. I take 100-150 mg per day. I was surprised because alot of the pharmacies don't even carry it anymore. Helped my anxiety, obsessive thoughts, which in turn eased my depression. I would highly recommend it. | F | 55 | 7 months | 6/10/2009 | 5 | BPD; depression; ocd | spontaneous, tic like, random movement of my muscles (extremities); "busy mind" when I sleep - wake up feeling refreshed but not enough sleep (like I will wake after just a couple hrs of sleep); agitation in the manner of nervousness/restlessness, not anger like agitation. | Of all the meds I have ever taken for depression this one seems to help me the most, but now after 1 1/2 months I am starting to get side effects | F | 46 | 7 weeks | 6/21/2009 | 5 | OCD Anxiety Disorder | I took this drug over 10 years ago for 6 years. It saved my life.I have had horrible phobias since I was 5.It took all of that away.I stopped due to the incredible weight gain and profuse sweating. Now I find myself in really bad shape from phobias again and have gone back on it.The side effects I have now are in the morning, dry mouth, slight dizziness,shaking/tremors,hot flushes all over my body.Im on 25 mgs now and am going to bump up to 50 soon.It has already helped some and I've only been on it 2 weeks. If you can get past the side effects,it is the most effective drug for OCD. | Does anyone else have excessive thirst or bad taste in their mouth from this? | F | 44 | 2 weeks | 7/24/2009 | 5 | OCD | I enjoy taking it since I know why I take it and that it alleviates my bad habits!! SMILE Plus I am not addicted to it - as like other drugs that I have taken for other issues. | I would recommend it for the correct diagnosis! When I first began taking it - I did notice a start of a little rash on my arm - however it has subsided! | F | 30 | 4 years | 9/21/2007 | 5 | Dramatic mood swings, OCD, PMS | Leg twitching (primarly when falling asleep), extreme dizziness when rising too quickly, larger breast size but no weight gain, fatigue. | For me, this drug has outweighed the side effects--and if you have them, I encourage you to try and ride them out! I take 25 mg. at night along with 450 mg. of Wellbutrin in the morning. The awful mood swings I've had since childhood (about 25 years total) are under control for the first time...and the OCD is no longer debilitating. It rears its ugly head now and then, but it feels more like habit than anything else. There is no better feeling than feeling relatively free of OCD and suicidal thoughts. My boyfriend and family noticed the changes immediately and comment that they've never seen me "doing better" in my life. I hope you, too, experience the same, or better, level of freedom if and when you decide to take it. Also, I want to mention, DO NOT drink excessively (more than 3 drinks) if you take this medicine. I experienced my first complete blackout after drinking alcohol with clomipramine, not to mention vomiting, shakes, head pains and anxiety well beyond the realm | F | 35 | 3 months | 8/1/2007 | 5 | panic, ocd, depression, GAD | constipation | best medicine i have ever been on | F | 27 | 1 weeks | 8/14/2007 | 5 | yes | i gained alot of weight(about60lbs), slept alot 10-12hrs a day and had to take naps, blurry vision, i had no physical motivation and always felt lazy, dizzy spells, no sex drive or intrest in sex, sweated alot | F | 31 | 5 days | 4/30/2006 | 5 | anxiety, depression, OCB, phobias | constipation, non existent sex drive, sleepiness, memory loss problems, weight gain. | Have tried so many other medications that didn't help at all and anafranil has taken away all mental issues. Was on 125mg and now on 50. Benefits far outweigh side affects!!!! | F | 27 | 6 years | 5/15/2006 | 5 | for obsessive compulsive disorder | on high doses, twitching; now on a low dose and have no side effects; | I have gone on to live a completely normal life almost completely symptom free of OCD. | F | 42 | 5 years | 7/6/2007 |
ANAFRANIL (CLOMIPRAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE): Clomipramine is used to treat obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). It helps decrease persistent/unwanted thoughts (obsessions), and it helps reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, checking) that interfere with daily living. This medication belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin, among others) in the brain. FDA Approval Date: 1989-12-29 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
