1  Alpha-gal and seasonal allergies I experienced feelings of doom and hopelessness, thoughts of suicide, extreme sadness, crying multiple times a day, difficulty waking up, anger, inability to get up and go to work. I've never felt feelings like this in my entire 45 years of life. I'll be taking allegra and claritin now. F 45 99 days

1  Household allergies I had been taking generic Zyrtec for a long time for cat and dust mite allergies... it stopped working, so I thought I would give the name brand a shot- THAT was a mistake. It brought on, completely out of the blue, unbridled anxiety, weight gain and a lack of motivation. I thought, perhaps, my hormones were out of whack (I am on BHRT), so had them tested and there was nothing wrong- everything was balanced, so I was baffled and then realized that I had started the Zyrtec a couple of weeks ago. I didn't take it yesterday and, already, today I am feeling MUCH better. I don't recommend to anyone to ever take this crap. No wonder we live in a society with mass depression and anxiety everywhere. F 53 16 days

1  Seasonal Allergies Depression, rage, anxiety, crying, mood swings, loss of appetite, exhaustion, no motivation, dizziness, brain fog This drug is dangerous. I am one to rarely use medication for things but seasonal allergies sneak up on me so I sometimes would turn to an OTC to help. I will absolutely never use this drug again. I had suspicions a while ago when I took it but never really correlated my side effects to the medication because I took it for a short time. This time, I know for certain that this is the drug causing my side effects. I have been crying unreasonably, seemingly raging at absolutely nothing, hated my partner and everything he did, could not get off the couch, called out of work, did not want to be around my family, had no joy in doing the things I normally liked, etc. It was only when I got on this medication and started taking it for roughly a week. I'm never taking this again in my life. I would rather suffer with all of my allergy symptoms and be happy than to feel that miserable again. I have been off for a little over 24 hours and already feel a bit better. I also noticed my nephew having fits and mood disturbances when he was on this as well. He is 10. This stuff needs to be heavily regulated and better warning labels on the outside for side effects. I'm glad it doesn't effect everyone this way and some people can find relief from things with it, but for the people that experience these side effects…it needs more warning. Not to mention doctors/providers that say to take it and do not even know or are un F 30 1 weeks

2  Allergies to grass, pollen, mold I've been taking zyrtec for 15 years and just started the process of weaning off of it about a month ago. I've always struggled with tiredness/fatigue, memory issues, concentration issues, and recurring low mood & depression, but I never knew why and treated myself with coffee all day long. After forgetting my meds one day, I woke up with tons of energy (even a little anxiety) and a lifted mood. Ever since then, I've been working to get off of it. Weaning off is horrible (I started with half a pill for a week, then a fourth, then an eighth, and now a 16th) because if I quit cold turkey I can't bare the itching, rash, and hives. But it's SO worth it. I'm starting to feel like a normal person again, have cut back on coffee, can think more clearly, remember things better, etc. I wish I never started taking this medicine.  1  Allergies Depression, enraged for no reason, irritability, sadness, hopeless, suicidal thoughts, negative self talk, anger, binge/comfort eating, lack of motivation, exhaustion, tiredness Fortunately I discovered a couple days ago that Zyrtec was linked with depression and many of the side effects I experienced (listed above). You can Google 'Zyrtec and depression' as well as review Harvard Health for more information. From a lifetime allergy sufferer I will live with sinus pain greatfully every day before going back to the hell this medication caused me. I had no idea why I was so depressed and frankly becoming such a horribly intolerable person to be around. I hated myself and was in anguish over it. Two days after stopping and I'm close to being my old self. In control, patience returning, and have a general feeling of well-being. Works for allergies but destroys everything else. Also had burning and pain in my gut; that's now gone. Please find another path for allergy symptom relief as in this case the medicine is worse than the disease. F 52 40 days

1  ragweed allergy intense mood swings, uncontrollable crying spells, inability to focus, depression and despair, feeling hopeless, suicidal thoughts that came out of nowhere I am appalled that this is sold OTC with the side effects so many people are experiencing. I usually take Allegra but it doesn't cut it for my late-summer ragweed allergy so thought I'd try something stronger. Well I stopped sneezing but just mentally had the week from hell..this totally changed my personality, I do struggle with some anxiety but not depression and honestly can't remember the last time I cried before taking this. I am traumatized that a seemingly “harmless” allergy med can be so destructive. Never taking this again!! F 36 10 days

2  Allergies Sadness, lack of motivation, extreme fatigue, excessive sleepiness, moodiness, tired. I took Zyrtec everyday for 4 weeks for Allergies, I previously only took it occasionally. 2 weeks in i started feeling just extremely tired. I suddenly was sleeping 12 hours a day and even that wasn't enough sleep. I was skipping class and work because i literally couldn't get up. I slept from 9pm to 1pm in the afternoon and felt moody and irritable. I finally realized it may be the zyrtec and stopped taking it, and i was better and felt normal after just a couple days. never again. M 19 4 weeks

1  Allergic reaction to an antibiotic Extreme anxiety, accelerated heart rate, depression, extreme dreams. Took Zyrtec to help with an allergic reaction to an anti biotic. Took days to realize that Zyrtec is the cause to my listed symptoms. I've never suffered from anxiety or panic attacks until a few days into taking, day 6 turned into terrible dreams and borderline hallucinations. When I wake up I cannot tell if I'm still dreaming or awake. I will never take again. M 35 7 days

1  Allergies Extreme dizziness, heart palp, head pressure, ear pressure, neck, back, shoulder, leg and foot pain. Major anxiety and depression I have been in and out of doctors and specialists for months. Nobody could find anything wrong with me but yet I felt like impending doom. All my blood work and scans came back normal. After thousands of dollars and about 25 doctors an allergist told me about the side effects of Zyrtec. Ive been off of it for almost 3 weeks and im still having issues. When does this end? Others say it takes about a week but I'm so afraid I permanently damaged my body. F 44 2 years
