1  Acid Reflux Anxiety, Depression, Slight Vertigo, Hopelessness, Disassociation, Hot Flashes Started with 20mg then moved up to 40mg did not like how it made me feel physically so moved back down to 20mg a day for the last few months. I noticed the last two to three months my anxiety and depression began to rise. I would lay in bed feeling lost or disassociated from my friends and family and I couldn't figure out why. I also had a sense of fear of things which was super odd, I've never dealt with anything that made you feel so fearful and lost. The few days before I quit taking Prilosec I would cry for no reason at all and was frustrated as to why I couldn't figure out what was making feel this way. I finally decided to google Prilosec and anxiety and was blown away by what I found. Stopped taking immediately and have been off for a week now but still have episodes of anxiety and hopelessness. Hoping things get better soon! M 41 9 months

1  GERD Dizziness, headache, depression, anxiety. Foggy feeling disoriented. Nerve pain in hands and feet. Severe anxiety when I try to fall asleep. Jumping out of my sleep with a racing heart. This medication should be taken off of the market ! I did not attribute some of my symptoms to the medicine while I was on it. When I got off of this medicine I experienced the WORST withdrawal symptoms. I felt like I was dying. I could barely sit up. I literally thought I was loosing my mind. Please aware of these possible side effects. F 29 6 months

1  Acid reflux Anxiety/depression, sadness, feeling of hopelessness about life in general! rapid heart rate, jitters, not at all myself. Stopped taking it four days ago when I realized it was causing these side effects, and I have started slowly getting back to normal each day. My doctor said it could take weeks. I highly recommend NOT taking this drug. F 60 16 days

1  Possible ulcer Started having gas issues, and lack of appetite. Not sure what else as I look back, but withdrawal was hell for 2 1/2 months. I want to give hope to those of you who think you'll never feel good again, going through withdrawal. At different times I experienced heartburn, over fullness to where I couldn't eat much, severe anxiety for about a week, heart palpitations, high BP, headaches, diarrhea, absolutely no appetite, nausea, lower intestinal rumbling, gas, and couldn't sleep past 3:00 a.m. and lost 8lbs. Things got somewhat better, then 2 steps back. Finally at almost 3 months I've been able to eat(still don't like my usual foods quite yet) and sleeping is better. Still tired and trying to gain back my weight. Evil poison pill!!! I thought I was dying! F 62 2 months

1  Acid reflux Following a flare up I was recommended to double dose. I have never felt worse. Severe anxiety and feelings of doom. Constant worry that regular items I touch will harm me.  1  Barretts Esophagus The first 20 or so days seemed fine then it quickly went to very bad. It started in my left foot with a numbness/ burning sensation and quickly moved up my entire left leg and then started in my right foot. The slightest contact of anything on my skin felt like I was just shot with a hollow point. My legs became so weak I could hardly get myself up off the couch/ chair. I've been off of this poison for 7 days now and things are improving. I've been drinking at least 1 big bottle of powerade and also taking a gym supplement that has lots of the b vitamins and other minerals in it. Be very careful with this drug. Please do your homework on it before taking. M 53 30 days

1  GERD Night sweats. Increased sweating. Tachycardia (fast heart rate). Hot flashes. Clammy hands and feet. Bloated belly. Water weight gain. Increased urination. Extreme anxiety. Lump in throat. I've used omeprazole a little over a year. I stopped in June 6 of 2021. Today's date is July 24, 2021. I am still having side effects from it. It started with heart palpitations. I'm sensitive to heat. I feel hot a flushed all over even though I'm in a cool building. I've had my TSH checked and it's not menopause. I've been hospitalized for my heart. Currently on Bisoprolol for my heart. Some of the symptoms have gotten better. They have not cleared completely. I'll write another update in six weeks. I've read you see a difference at the 3 month mark. I hope so. Feeling hopeless. F 39 100 days

1  LPR My review was posted on 7/11 as being highly satisfied. This is incorrect. I was extremely dissatisfied. I'm not sure how this happened except my fat fingers mistakenly choosing a (4). In no way was I satisfied with this product. F 47 14 days

4  LPR Dizziness, headache, fatigue, shoulder pain, high bp, anxiety, leg tremors, face spasms. With all the side effects you would think I had a stroke or a tumor. I honestly thought I was diabetic or had symptoms of ALS. I was very satisfied the first few days but by the 3rd day, I began having headaches. I didn't think anything of it until I checked my bp and it was very elevated. Other the course of the 14 day treatment, I experienced back pain, lightheaded, leg tremors during the night, anxiety when waking as if I didn't know where I was. I finished my 14 day regime and I am 6 weeks out but still suffering with many of the above mentioned side effects. Thankfully, my bp has returned to normal and no more back pain. I feel as if my life had spun out of control because every little tremor scares me. If you're prescribed this medication, please please talk to your physician before taking. F 47 14 days

1  Possible stomach ulcer As time went on I experienced excess gas and stomach rumbling. It also didn't seem to help with pain. I stopped taking it and have experienced anxiety, inability to sleep well, general unwell feeling. Had heartburn for the first time ever, and the first day horrible stomach pain. Switched to Pepcid. Wish in had read through these comments before I started taking the drug. I would have avoided it. F 62 2 months

1  Suspected GERD Severe anxiety, not being able to eat/swallow, joint pains, dizziness, nausea, headache. I was given this med because I had been having difficulty swallowing due to GERD. I took it the first day and I felt my throat closing/ear aches. Today I took the next dose and had the same symptoms. I haven't been able to eat and I've been feeling so weak. I was getting a little better with swallowing issues but I wanted something better. This medication made my symptoms worse to the point where drinking water feels so strained and if I try to eat anything, I feel pain in my ears. Did anyone feel like this??? Especially not being able to swallow or making it worse? F 26 2 days

1  GERD/ heartburn Thought I was losing my mind. The most dark and deep soul-less, hopeless, despair filled week in my entire life. Crying uncontrollably various times each day. Considered multiple ER visits. Called hotlines because I thought I was losing it. Fearful of everything. Detached from my loved ones. Completely, utterly debilitating and horrifying side effects. Not to mention the most awful migraines, nausea, chest pain, stomach issues, body aches, etc. Eventually did some searching and found these posts and other sites. I stopped the drug immediately. It has been two days since I stopped. Still having panic/ anxiety attacks but not as long lasting, frequent or severe. Still having stomach issues and chest pain, body aches. Can finally eat somewhat normally again. DO. NOT. EVER. TAKE. F 37 5 days

2  GERD First and foremost, I honestly do not take medication unless it is life or death. I believe in natural ways to stay healthy along with a good clean diet. But my GERD symptoms got so annoying, that I had decided to just give it a shot. It was only for 14 days so why not. I researched it and it seemed to be hopeful, plus if the side effects weren't pleasant, then I should be able to still push through for the full 14 days... I thought. So to start off, as for the heartburn and acid reflux getting taken away almost immediately on the first day, the side effects make this drug have you wishing you were off it and back to having heartburn again. Atleast you feel normal and can just pop a tum when things get bad. So, first day taking this, I had zero heartburn and felt normal directly one hour after taking it. I was very pleased. Has no side effects all day. Then on the second day the side effects hit pretty hard in terms of brain fog and anxiety, but I thought I'd just drink a ton of water and push through it to give this a shot, to see if my body adjusted. It actually did. The next 6 days I had almost zero sides besides a lack of appetite here and there and some nausea temporarily. Nothing too crazy. I figured that my body had adjusted to the medication and it was smooth sailing until Day 14. Then that all went out the window when Day 8 hit and it got 100x worse. Every side effect that you see that got reported on here, I ended up getting all in one day. I one small meal 45 min after taking it and felt so full that I felt like I was going to vomit and that feeling literally lasted like 8-10 hours. Even if I had hunger pains around then, I couldn't even look at food. Then ontop of that, the nausea was extreme. I then realized maybe it was time I had gotten off of it before my body became dependent, making it more difficult to stop. That's how bad this was. Day 8 was the day. Things get worse. Later that night, the extreme anxiety hit and the heart palpitations came with it right when it was time to fall asleep. Meanwhile I'm nauseous as hell and can't eat. So, I can feel myself falling asleep finally and then bam the anxiety mixed in with the heart racing, broke me right of of that rhythm multiple times. I couldn't even think straight due to how bad I was quietly panicking laying next to my fianc√© and I am not even close to an anxious person, so this was all new to me and I obviously knew right away that this had to be Prilosec's doing, So, what did I do? I had to unfortunately sit there all night drinking water and feeling this way like I was gonna die in sheer panic. Got zero sleep. I understood what it was and I had my only solution left. Quit taking it. So when I got up for work exhausted as ever, I took the pill pack and trashed it first thing. Now I am sitting here writing this review in hopes to st M 27 8 days

1  heartburn High anxiety, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, depression, mental fog, insomnia, disassociation, loss of appetite I had a bad reaction to Prilosec OTC. I took it in the mornings, before breakfast, for 7 days until I realized it is causing me issues. Starting around the 3rd day I began feeling more stressed and my heartrate was up to ~100 from 70, which is my normal resting heartrate. On the fourth day I had to drive for 2 hours and felt on the edge the whole time, pulse was 130. I recognized anxiety and set up a call with a psychiatrist to help me. I never had this before (or since). On the 7th day I realized that it might be the Prilosec, found others complaining and I stopped taking it immediately. The side effects took me around 2 months and a half to clear. The first 2-3 weeks were the worst, with many anxiety attacks and some depression. I also started waking up a lot at night, 7-10 times per night. The anxiety started to come and go, but took approx 8 weeks until I had the last attack. Insomnia took a bit longer to clear. I took vitamins (B complex, D), minerals (magnesium, calcium) and supplements (valerian root, pepsin HCl), pushed myself to exercise (run), but not really sure that these helped. Blood tests looked fine. My GP had another patient with same symptoms at the same time as me, but never heard of such effects before. There are recent studies that indicate a link (search for "Elevated anxiety, hypoactivity, memory deficits, decreases of brain serotonin and 5-HT-1A receptors expression in rats treated with omeprazole"), but unfortunately no actionable remedy/suggestion M 34 7 days

1  Gerd Terrible muscle spasms legs and hips I took this medication for years on and off at 20 mg and always suffered with muscle pain , I didnít realize that it was the prilosec that gave me those pains until my doctor raised my dosage to 40 mg per day and the muscle pain and spasm got so bad I had to stop taking the medication F 73 2 weeks

2  GERD At first I had no side effects. UNTIL day 5. I've just felt awful: rebound acid, chest pains, heart palpitations, waking up from sleep with my heart feeling like it's RACING. I believe medicine can do any kind of weird stuff and Prilosec has done it for me. I've taken Protonix and Prevacid with zero problems. Not sure why Prilosec is affecting me this way. M 24 8 days

PRILOSEC  (OMEPRAZOLE):  Omeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. This medication helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus. Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).   (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
