1  hypertension Dry cough and sometimes it makes me choke on my own sailva....Scary. Also it gives me dry, red eyes. This brought down my BP until about a month ago. Now the doctor wants to increase the dose. I won't do it. I am looking into alternative herbal remedies while I search out the actual cause of the increased B/P. I found a book that I can't put down called "The Blood Pressure Hoax" by Sherry Rogers MD. Now I think I am getting to the root of the problem. If I continue to take this medication I will just be masking the increased B/P. My goal is to be off of Zestril as soon as possible......and I think it can be done through following the protocol in this book. I am an active R.N and need good scientific data. This book provides that data. The number of the publisher as listed in the book is 1-800-846-6687 and the website is : www.prestigepublishing.com I am tired of the pharmacuetical companies and FDA continually pushing pills instead of actually treating the reason for the disease. In Europe during the 17 and 18oo's the doctors only got paid when their patients were well. Pe F 59 2 years

1  hypertension Dry hacking cough that often causes sleeplessness. I can no longer sing in the choir due to this. By the end of the day my voice gets raspy......I have never smoked.  3  High Blood Pressure Dry hacking, annoying cough especially at night. Coughing at times so hard my throat hurts. I nearly choked on yogurt from the cough I take the generic Lisinopril 10 mg. The cough started within a few days. F 44 11 days

2  High Blood Pressure Highly aggravating cough - dry, hacking, to the point where the gag reflex would kick in and vomiting would have been the next step. Lack of sleep due to constantly waking up coughing. Controls blood pressure extremly well, but the coughing negates it's benefits. Doc switched me to Benicar (another ACE) which is not supposed to cause the coughing but, guess what? Yup ------ I'm actually coughing worse. Have stopped all meds for a few days ---- the coughing is actually letting up. Amazing!! TIC F 68 9 months

2  marginal HBP I got a cough from a cold about 7 weeks ago, which was about a week after I first started taking lisinipril. Most of the cold symptoms eventually subsided but the bad cough I had with it didn't. The coughing slowly lessened in severity until about 3 weeks ago when I developed what I thought was a side ache from coughing. It progressed, kept me from getting more than an hour of sleep at a time at night, and eventually I developed pleurisy. By this time the coughing was debilitatingly painful. Today I had a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia and then my doctor told me to stop taking my tiny 2.5 mg dosage of lisinipril immediately and prescribed a different type of BP med. He feels that lisinipril is at the root of this problem. F 60 8 weeks

2  hypertension Developed terrible nagging cough, primarily during the night, after about 4 weeks, was awakening almost hourly and coughing. Worked beautifully lowering blood pressure from 150/84 to 118/70, but just could not continue taking it due to cough. Now am on different class of drug; cough gone after about 2 weeks F 55 2.5 months

1  High Blood Pressure A horrific dry cough that woke me (and my husband) up ten times a night. I have been taking this med for only three weeks and soon after this dry cough began. I did not read the side effects and only by chance learned from a neighbor that her Mom had the same problem. Doctor's should advise their patients as to the side effects, especially if they are as common as this drug's effect. F 55 3 weeks

3  High Blood Pressure Very heavy leg feel. So bad I wanted to use crutches to get around. Some swelling experienced on left feet. Some fatigue generated also. Sometimes after eating my leg will suddenly feel heavy. Doctor tested for potassium imbalance. Potassium level curiously ok. But I feel lisinopril is screwing or has screwed my kidneys up. As far as lowering BP, it does that good, but at what expense? M 48 1 years

3  hypertension I developed a horrible cough that seemed to increase in intensity the longer I took the medicine. At first it was annoying, but it progressed to the point of gagging/choking. This would happen many times a day, sometimes waking me 3-5 times a night. Lowered my BP to a good level. F 49 40 days

2  CHF/Hypertension Terrible facial swelling! Zestril, depending on the strength, causes my lips and nose to swell badly. When cutting the tablets in half, the medication causes me to experience painful stomach aches. This medication has also caused me to experience depression and a persistent dry cough. Zestril brings my hypertension under control. However, the pronounced side effects makes the quality of life poor. F

1  borderline HBP cough, abdominal pains, odd purple zits on chest and back, shortness of breath, sore throat, low energy, digestive issues cough lasted almost 1 and 1/2 years after quitting lisinopril; 2 years later lungs are still not the same, very sticky throat still, deep aching pains in lungs, very debiltating M 45 3 months

2  hypertension vertigo It did a fine job of bringing down my bp, but I started getting bouts of vertigo, sometimes severe. I have a family history of menear's disease (one of the symptoms is vertigo) but I never had it before taking zestril and haven't had it since I stopped zestril and started on cozaar. Probably veritgo isn't an issue if you're not already pre-disposed. M 51 6 months
