| 1 | Food Poison | My father (94) was prescribed CIPLOX in India. Within two days, he developed symptoms like heart attack. The doctors there could not identify this as a reaction. Instead, they put him on several heart medications. When this caused his prostate problems to worsen, they prescribed a tube and Levoday (another quinolone family). CIPRO (CIPROFLOXACIN HYDROCHLORIDE): This medication is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for virus infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections. FDA Approval Date: 1987-10-22 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
