Initially they prescribed PPI's, but after reading up on how horrible those are for you (as in the effects on your heart), I opted for Pepcid. The first two weeks were fine, it definitely works when you have a GERD flare up, but after over a month of taking it the first time around…. I began to feel weird. Tired, anxious, irritable all the time. I thought it might be the stress of the pandemic and working 12-15 hours a day, but after two years of being on it off and on—I realized something is not right. I feel vindicated by these posts, my Dr. Keeps telling me I'm a psycho and need to be on antidepressants basically. I know that's not it. I'm young, healthy, every time I go to the ER for fluttering heart/palpitations they say nothing is wrong with me. My heart is good, blood work normal… yet I keep having this scary feeling that my heart stops beating. Plus I'm out of breath all the time. I'm active, I eat healthy, I shouldn't be out of breath from going up a flight of stairs. After reading all these, I think it might be the Pepcid. I got off it for a while and took Pantoprazole instead. I cannot believe this is still on the market. It should not be given to anyone. I hope I do not have heart damage from this poison. I still have all the same side effects as before, and one new one to add. The last several days, I've been getting a "pins and needles" numb kind of feeling on the soles of my feet. It also itches like crazy too. It's obviously a reaction to the Famotidine. I'm in the process of weaning off this poison again. I've been doing 10 mg twice daily for the last 6 days, and I'm going to knock it down to 5 mg starting tomorrow. I've done all the diet and lifestyle changes, and there's probably nothing else I can do. However at the moment i have a very persistent and stressful case of esophagitis, and ended up going to the hospital one day because of struggling with it. Prilosec wasn't helping put anymore. When i get there they prescribe me with Famotidine/Pepcid for a week and say i should go to a gastroenterologist. I started taking it and holy sh*t. Within two days i was having heart palpitations and other weird sensations in my heart that are difficult to explain. Very irregular beats along with "extra" heart beats that mimicked tachycardia symptoms and could be felt across my body, including arms and back. Shakiness. Anxiety. Feeling my body extremities going cold. I was constantly super aware of my heart beats on top of that which greatly contributed to the anxiety that i was having a heart attack. Long story short (seems like the website is cutting my message for being too long), i almost got into a car crash because of this. Thought i was dying of a heart attck with an extreme panic attack. One of the most terrifying nights of my life. Moral of the story: DONT TAKE PEPCID. F*CK THIS THING. Firstly, I had started getting a rapid heart rate on and off throughout the day that I never had before. I wear a Fitbit and I monitored my heart rate which clearly showed it went to a perfect resting rate to over 100 beats for no reason. I am a healthy person who exercises and never had this before. The other symptom is sore joints. It started with lower back and now it is so sore on my shoulder blade and under my upper arms.
