3  Anxiety and depression Right now I feel like I want to eat any and everything that is around me. My appetite has picked up. It does not make me sleepy at this time and I don't notice hair loss. I just started taking it and we will see how it works. I will be getting on a diet plan at this moment. I cannot afford to gain any weight. F 45 1 months

1  To treat bipolar disorder Immediate weight gain 20 lbs. Extreme hair loss to the point that I had to cut hair off. Deep depression began to settle in making my experience horrible. I would have been better off not taking the drug. This drug should not be prescribed to any patient. Side effects may be more emotional to deal with than the actual d/o itself. Seek another drug but check side effects first. F 52 6 weeks

2  migraines hair loss (not major but enough that I see it on my brush) insomnia (AH! every other day I couldn't sleep but maybe 2-3 hours a night) foggy thinking/forgetfulness (what's 8x7??? that's BAD I'm a college student majoring in PHYSICS, I'm SUPPOSED to be GOOD in math) I had this weird sensation driving at night (daytime driving did not bother me) it was like driving tipsy, which scared me, so I avoided driving in the dark. The drug did not work for me at the dose I took... maybe it would have if I could have taken a higher dose BUT I'm not willing to given my current side effects (I can only imagine they would get worse). I am sure this drug works fine for SOME people, but not me! Also my vision seemed fuzzy, like I needed new glasses, I suddenly had problems reading the board and I sit in the front of the class, AND I've been wearing the same prescription for over 10 years, and no I'm not old enough my vision SHOULD be changing!  5  Unipolar depression/aniety Major Hair Loss, Tremors, sleepy all the time. It has really helped me with a good deal of my issues. I may have to quit taking the drug because of the hair loss and that makes me a bit sad. F 31 6 days

5  Bipolar Hair thinning, some weight gain (very small amount) I really believe in this drug. It is important, at least for me, to take the drug at the correct time each day. Do not skip doses. I was on Lithum (spelling) for about a year . . . 20 years back, it did not work for me. I can really focus with Depakote. I am not happy with my hair, but I LOVE my life now. The correct dosage is really important. Work with your doctor. F 15 years

1  Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy Cysts on Ovaries I took this medicine for several years due to JME and eventually, this medicine caused me to develop Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I would not reccommend it to any woman. F 30 5 years

5  Anxiety & Mood I had some sluggushness at first and gained about 5 lbs. Some occasional heartburn and slight tremor. I found that my body adjusted to the side effects as time went on. I returned to my normal weight. Occasional heartburn but the benefits have been great. I only take 750mg of the extended version and have for 8 years. I like that I never get rashes or nervous with this drug and it always seems to work. My co-pay is 10 dollars more but it's worth it. M 36 8 years

3  Atypical Bipolar Beginning dose (1000mg. daily)-couldn't stay awake or focused! Swelling hands & legs and terrible itching w/light rash! By cutting the dose in half (500 mg. daily)and adding Zyrtec for the itching and taking 1 and 1/2 Maxide tablets for swelling it has worked well to get my moods stabilized along with taking Seroquel for anxiety. However, after 2 and 1/2 months I have gained 15 lbs. but the worst problem is hair loss! Every time I brush or run my fingers through my hair it comes out in hand fulls! Enough so that I am not willing to continue taking it! I will discuss an alternative at my next psychiatrist appt.. F 58 3 months

3  bipolar 2 Immediate weight gain (15-20 pounds), fatigue, loss of interest, and decreased productivity. Four years after initiation of treatment, I am experiencing an alarming amount of hair loss. Taking Depakote has compromised my ability to stay on top of my workload. The hair loss that I am experiencing now is really disturbing. F 43 4 years

5  Mood Swings Once in awhile some acute agitation about something minor. It corrects itself in minutes though. This med is like brakes on car for my mind. It stops the bad from getting real bad. I was able to make rational decisions and was not the least bit foggy at 750mg per day of the ER version. Compared to the confusion and rashes and acne from Lamictal and other AEDs this med has been great. No IQ drop at all. People have different reactions I guess, judging by the previous post.  1  bipolar 1000 ER mg bedtime. Some weight gain 25 lbs, nitemares, lathargic, memory loss, loss of concentration, irrational, irritable, tired but very fatigued, especically leg fatigue at nite, in a fog, loss of self, seeing things out of corner of eye, increased worry and confusion, hightened libido. Helped a bit with some of my physical anxiety symptoms, which resumed quickly after stopping depakote, still had some depression, moderate moodswings but was unable to think clearly, increased impulsive and irrationale decisions, i changed to lamictal along with cymbalta and I feel much better. Still feel anxiety and some other issues, but rather that than not being able to make rational decisions and being in a fog. Became a person I did not like, compromised morals. Now that I have changed meds, the past 18 months seems surreal, like looking back on a weird dream, with a lot of scenes missing. F 41 18 months
