RESTORIL  (TEMAZEPAM):  This medication is used to treat a certain sleep problem (insomnia). It may help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and lessen how often you wake up during the night, so you can get a better night's rest. Temazepam belongs to a class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect. Use of this medication is usually limited to short treatment periods of 1 to 2 weeks or less. If your insomnia continues for a longer time, talk to your doctor to see if you need other treatment.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Insomnia Night terrors and incredible sweating. Only slept for 1.5 hours before waking. I only took a 15mg tab once a few nights ago(the generic version, temazepam) I fell asleep and woke up about 1.5 hours later after a terrifying dream, drenched in sweat. It scared the hell out of me! I wanted to try this because the Ambien CR I have been taking is so expensive. I'm going to try the temazepam one more time. If I have the same results, I'm throwing it out and staying on the Ambien! The Ambien works pretty well for me so I will continue to pay $40 a month if I have to. F 39 1 days

1  Insomnia None. Restoril does not work for me. I cannot feel it taking effect (unlike Ambien CR, though that does not keep me asleep) and do not fall asleep or stay asleep when I take Restoril. I have better results with Tylenol PM and the same results taking nothing. F 29 12 times

5  insomnia none - other than gradually losing its effectiveness due to tolerance. I take 30 mg and it works beautifully with no apparent side effects other than you build tolerance after a couple of weeks. I'm starting to wake up too early, which was the main problem to begin with. I take it only 5 nights a week. On weekends, I substitute Remeron (7.5mg ) to try and minimize tolerance to temazepam.  1  Insomnia Diarrhea (watery stools) Took Restoril 15 mg for two nights in a row. Slept great. Didn't even wake up to urinate. No dreams. If it's too good to be true.... On the morning after the second night, I had a very strong diarrhea: at least 5 bowel movements in 3 hours. Couldn't go to work. Stayed home near the toilet. Watery stool continued until early afternoon when I had no water in me left. I threw away the rest of the pills. M 41 2 days

1  insomnia Rx did not work at all for me, plus I am pretty sure it was contributing to crying spells (I already suffer from depression) I was prescribed 15mg, and I didnt even get groggy. The next nite I double it, and I still felt nothing. I have tried it a couple more times just to give it a shot and nothing. I am going back to Ambien. F 28 2 weeks

1  Insomnia Rage - argued with my mate for almost 5 hours, 4.5 hours of which I don't remember. When I finally fell asleep he woke me to move me off the floor, I did sexual things I don't remember. Have tried Ambien, Lunesta and other meds. Would rather take almost any other medication. F 33 1 days

5  could not sleep due to anxiety Started with 15 mg over 2 years ago and needed 30 mg to help me sleep all night which i started about two weeks after trying the lower dose. Graduated to 60 mg after 6 more months due to more anxiety. I recently developed some memory loss, i think its more short term memory and my doctor is having me back off of it and taking rozerem. I do have some muscle twitching, not sure if its the other drugs i'm taking for depression. Not sure if its contributing to my depression, as i seem to be on a roller coaster with the depression. Definitely it helped me sleep, but I would recommend not taking it on a long term basis or talking to your doctor about other meds that would help you sleep that don't have the addictive component. I am backing off slowly and not having any withdrawal symptoms. F 56 2 years

5  Sleep Somewhat groggy in morning - just for 30 minutes or so... This has been an immediate cure for 10 years of being unable to stay asleep- it had gotten to be so bad, recently, that I grabbed an unused bottle of Elavil that had been prescribed (and never taken) in 1992 for post-op pain! I tried one pill and slept 7 hours for the first time in months. I used 10 mg. for one week and slept every night through. Before that, I was lucky to go 4 hours before waking up. Also, I had tried all kinds of sleep meds and nothing worked except Lunesta, that gave me a funny feeling when I woke up. I stopped taking the Elavil for two nights and reverted back to my sleepless pattern. I took it again last night and slept 7 hours again. I am amazed and really thrilled to have discovered this drug!  5  insomnia Dry mouth upon awakening If you have occasional insomnia, this is a pretty great drug. I take a 30mg capsule. In about 30 minutes, I hit the sack. I don't feel "drugged" per se, but I sleep and I stay asleep. I never take more than 2 a week, so my usage is infrequent. As such, I have zero dependency issues. Highly recommended for occasional use as needed. M 35

3  Insomnia This is strange stuff. I'm on the 22.5mg dose and my reactions are not predictable. Some nights it totally knocks me out - which is what I want. Other nights it turns me into a zombie state and I will roam around and cook/eat meals and have conversations, none of which I recall the next day. I also tend to wake up about 2 hours earlier than when I go to sleep without it. Horrific dreams some nights. Works better for me/keeps me to sleep longer than Ambien, and there is no hang-over effect in the morning. I also take Inderal for migraines and not sure how much of the waking up early and vivid dreams might be related to that. F 35 21 days

3  insomnia No real side effects. Benzo's are great for insomnia(true insomnia). Use them for 3 weeks, taper, use a different benzo. Seroquel is great but you will gain some weight and it interacts with a lot of other meds. Overall, I like ambien and dalmane the best. Restoril is on my top 5 as well. Everything that helps an insomniac is addictive so use them for 2 to 4 weeks at most and switch. A good doctor will know this method. M 27 10 days
