RESTORIL  (TEMAZEPAM):  This medication is used to treat a certain sleep problem (insomnia). It may help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and lessen how often you wake up during the night, so you can get a better night's rest. Temazepam belongs to a class of drugs called sedative-hypnotics. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect. Use of this medication is usually limited to short treatment periods of 1 to 2 weeks or less. If your insomnia continues for a longer time, talk to your doctor to see if you need other treatment.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  insomnia dizziness, restlessness, waking up 2-3 hours later unable to fall asleep, drowsiness, nauseous hangover feeling because I still couldn't sleep while on this medication! This did not help me sleep much. It helped me fall asleep, unless I was especially upset/anxious then it didn't work at all. I got about 2-3 hours a night, which is better than no sleep at all I guess. When I woke up I had difficulty falling back asleep even though I was so tired. I laid there not even knowing if I were alseep or awake for the rest of the night. It also made me throw up in the morning if I could not sleep. Ambien works better. F 21 1 weeks

1  insomnia I developed tardive dyskinesia on 250 mg for 1 month. I am trying to wean myself off it without going completely crazy from sleep deprivation. I am twitching all over and blow out my cheeks. I am still taking it but trying to get off if. Getting off it means you vomit and are a total insomniac. Getting off it can kill you. Never take this. It is addictive and can damage your nervous system F 52 30 days

5  Insomnia from stress none started with 7.5mg, and now take 1-4 capsules per night, so I have the flexibility to take 7.5mg, or 15mg, or 22.5mg or 30mg, depending upon how stressed, restless and NOT sleepy I am M 31 90 days

1  insomnia This drug is a joke, its a waste of time. Limits your sleep to 5 maybe 6 hours, I would take that over nothing, but then a quick tolorance for it built up in a couple of weeks, putting me back at square one. Worked just long enough to make me mad, and then it quit on me. Its a huge waste of your time, skip it. F 37 3 weeks

4  Chronic Insomnia Very rarely when I didn't eat dinner I get an exagerated effect that kind of wipes me out - slurred words, stumbly. Have some loss of memory a couple of times a month - not remembering a conversation or TV show before bed. Getting on medication for my sleeping problems was a huge turning point for me when I entered college. I have what could be called "sleep anxiety" - panic going to bed, panic while I am sleeping, nightmares and difficulty staying asleep in general. Since i was about 8. I cycle this on-off with lunesta. I take 30-45 mg temazepam about 20 nights a month. Was on 60mg 25-30 days per month for about 6 years. Never had any real issues except concern of addiction which is why I mix it up now. I take a break from all sleep meds when an opportunity persents itself, and I get rebound insomnia - which for me means i don't sleep at all for a night or so and then I just get crappy sleep for a couple of days and start my meds again...  1  insomnia Took this TOXIC benzo for 3 years. Could not sleep without it and now am trying to taper myself off it. Understand that getting off is a long process and withdrawal can last a year or longer. Did NOT realize what effect this would have on my body. Besides depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, I have developed anorexia. If you are taking this drug talk to your dr. about tapering off. It should never have been prescribed to me for such an extended period of time. F 66 3 years

5  Insomnia Stimulation of appetite. I first experienced using Restoril when it first came out in 1981, and have been back to it for the past couple of years. It is the benzodiazepine I have used the most (second most was clonazepam). I prefer temazepam over all other benzos for sleep because of its ideal lenghth of effect and relatively low addiction potential. There is one particular note of importance regarding this medication: To avoid tolerance, use the stimulant Provigil. Somehow, Provigil used in the morning obliviates tolerance problems that temazepam tends to do otherwise. As recent as yesterday, I let my psychiatrist know that little tid-bit. I recommend that anyone using Restoril notify their doctor of that recommendation. M 43 14 years

5  Get a good night's sleep None whatsoever. I don't take other medication so I don't experience interaction with other drugs. Previously I would wake up every three hours. Now I sleep 6 hours straight. I feel energized in the morning. M 71 5 days

1  insomnia This initially worked well for insomnia, but after three weeks of 15mg, my body started to build a tolerance for it, and it stopped working. I skipped a night, and learned that I'm both tolerant and have a dependency on it, as is common with benzodiazepines. I can't sleep with it and I can't sleep without it--after only three weeks. Be careful! You can get dependent in only three weeks. I am now on a taper-schedule. F 33 25 days

4  Insomnia Confusion, increased appetite...makes me really hungry and I feel like I can't get enough to eat. Helps me sleep all night which I usually can't do. No hangover feeling in the morning and I wake rested and refreshed. M 28 2 days

1  Bipolar II Was put on it for insomnia. Built a tolerance in no time and got addicted to it. Couldn't sleep without. I quit, but it was hard. I don't recommend this crap or benzos altogether for sleep. If you can't sleep, use Seroquel - it works and you don't get a freaking med dependence problem. M 26 2 months
