MACRODANTIN  (NITROFURANTOIN, MACROCRYSTALLINE):  This medication is used to treat or prevent certain urinary tract infections. This medication is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. Nitrofurantoin should not be used in children less than one month of age due to the risk of a certain blood problem (hemolytic anemia).    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

 5  UTI None at all. I had tried two other drugs and neither of the worked. I would recommend this for a severe UTI. F 48 2 weeks

 3  UTI On the 2nd day i had severe bout of diarrhea. Took Immodium, and diarrhea got better. Now I am experiencing on and off right side/flank pain. Only antibiotic that does not keep me awake at night. Took Levaquin for 5 days and could not sleep while taking this medication. Cipro kept me awake too. F 39 5 days

 5  Urinary Tract Infection Nausea for like, the first pill. nothing else after that. Bactrim helped me a lot. I've heard of so many complaints about people going to the hospital and almost dying cause of this drug, but i feel that i'm lucky. I was scared about taking them at first cause of a site i looked at. But after the first pill, i had no side effects. F 17 7 days
