2  Familial hypercholesterolemia Anyone else notice odd skin side effects? I broke out in red spots, like bug bites..legs, torso, arms ....90 days later, still waiting for them to dissappear. Had the other side effects, worst sore throat, runny nose, tired....scared after reading how so many got so bad so quickly, so stopped The long term, serious side effects that could happen made me say, not worth it.  1  familial high cholesterol Statin intolerant. On Repatha, cholesterol was dropping markedly, so we went to dosing every other week. Still extremely low. Began having memory issues, behavior changes, lethargy, extreme muscle cramping, super low testosterone. The final straw was when I started having what we later figured out were panic attacks---one of which nearly killed me because I was in the water when it happened. I had never in 70 years experienced anything like it. In retrospect, we tend to be told/assume some of these things are just age related, but mine resolved after stopping this drug, so it was not "just my age". Patients also need to be counseled on what it can do to hormone levels. MD's are of the mindset "the lower the better". I later read that studies with the VA however indicate that low cholesterol puts people at a significantly higher risk for mental issues---violent suicides, depression, and risky behavior. Patients need to be counseled on importance of retaining some cholesterol for proper brain function and generation of a multitude of hormones dependent on it. It is necessary to our health. Once I dropped it, we tried using Liothyronine. Though checking for thyroid issues is suggested prior to prescribing statins, that was never done, and even so, modern testing misses those who have T4 to T3 conversion issues. We did a trial of liothyronine (T3) which lowered cholesterol, and also got liver enzymes and low sodium back in range. Low body temp, which no one seemed to want to address (94-95 F) resolved. Body/muscle aches resolved. Hormones returned to normal range. Mood and memory improved. Interestingly, high cholesterol used to be one of the ways that endocrine issues were diagnosed, but "improvements" in medicine kept me from finding a treatment that works for over 20 years.  1  Familial hypercholesterolemia Severe fatigue, indigestion, heaviness in stomach, difficulty breathing, back, shoulders and severe neck pain, higher blood sugar, blurred vision, panic attacks, shivering, memory loss, brain fog I took Repatha for almost 1.5 years and it turned my life into hell. I never suspected it had to do with it until recently when I stopped it and returned to using it a few months ago. The feeling has been terrible. Just to note that Repatha has no influence on inflammation. Cholesterol even if high, doesn't kill until it becomes oxidized because of inflammation. Stay away from sugar and carbs, exercise and you'll do just fine. Cholesterol is needed by your brain to function properly and by the bile for your digestion. Lowering cholesterol too much has some serious side effects including cancer. Beware. Test your small dense LDL and your Oxidized LDL, keep your triglycerides and blood sugar at normal level and this is the best you can do to your body M 49 1.5 years

1  high cholesterol and triglycerides Started this medication after trying many many statins as well as Zetia over 6 year timeframe. All with the problems of body aches, joint pains etc. Felt like I had the flu for over a year before I stopped the Zetia. Jumped thru many hoops to get insurance to cover this...and still very expensive at $285 (2 injections). Not sure how many people on fixed incomes can afford this. First injection no problem other than runny nose, sneezing, coughing and dizziness. Following second injection two weeks later, all of the above now having night seats and insomnia. Following third injection, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, mild dizziness, night sweats, insomnia, abdominal bloating, gas - burping belching, soft yellow stool (not diarrhea but close) for one week following injection. Have some sort of tendonitis in feet and great toe pain, wrist/hand forearm pain (these started after 3rd injection). Tylenol nor aspirin help with this pain. Don't really know if this medication is any better than any of the statins, due side effects and cost.. I would definitely talk to your Doctor about cost and side effects prior to starting this medication. F 65 6 weeks

1  High Cholesterol It worked great on my cholesterol, but the side effects are unbearable. The mucscle cramping, constantly. I had a cramp in my calf that lasted for over 30 minutes, my leg looked deformed during this cramp. I had a bruise the size of a baseball the next morning. Constant runny nose and cough. I couldn't move or bend or stretch without severe muscle cramping. No sleep as cramps througout my body happened when I moved. Stomach muscles, legs, shoulders, neck, back. It was constant, every day, every night. I drank water, took magnesium and potassium, by my doctors advice, ended up at the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack due to chest pain and tingling in my arm and fingers. I got muscle cramps in places I didn't know I could get them. I stopped taking it in October 2022, 9 months ago. I still get cramps, but they are occasional and not nearly as bad. The runny nose is still with me, the cough comes and goes as well. I think some these side effects may be permanent. No more cholesterol meds for me, ever. Statins are poison. Diet and exercise are your friends, repatha is not. It is poison and your body will tell you. F 56 2 years

2   Been on Repatha nearly 2 years and it seemed amazing at first. After about a year I began experiencing severe joint pain from head to toe. I take no medications other than Repatha, so I became suspicious. I stopped the Repatha and after a few weeks was feeling back to normal. I resumed the Repatha and after a few months the severe joint pain returned. I think Im stopping it permanently this time since I again improved to normal after stopping it a while. I visited a specialist and arthritis was ruled out, so I believe the joint pain could be an effect effect of using the Repatha. I cannot take statins due to severe muscle cramps and charlie horses, so what to do now? M 57 0 days

5  Elevated lipids and No side effects. Compared to statin drugs, Repatha has been life saving for me. Before Repatha, I suffered from muscle and joint pain from the Statin drugs. My legs would hurt so bad I would literally cry at night. I tried every statin drug made. When I was introduced to Repatha, I was a bit reluctant, being that it was an injection...but the little shot every 2 weeks has made my numbers better than ever. F 62 2 years

1  Hi LDL Joint pain including hip pain and elbow pain. Non-specific abdominal pain, bottom of foot pain, heavy fatigue, short term memory issues. Chest pain that comes and goes. Was on Repatha for 1 and a half years. No adverse symptoms in first year but then they started up with a vengeance. Absolutely did lower my very high LDL cholesterol but eventually it took a heavy toll. The memory issues are frightening. Doctor took me off the drug when I described by symptoms. Be very careful with this drug as symptoms can sneak up on you. F 73 1 years

5  High cholesterol over 320 Taste in mouth right after injection nothing harsh. Minimal leg cramping 2-3 days post injection but nothing like the cramping from statins which were debilitating! After 6 months on rapatha my cholesterol is down to 152 for the first time in 20+ years and I have been on everything tried dietary changes nothing has worked until Rapatha! This is the miracle cholesterol medication for me. The high calcium build up in my arteries from high cholesterol has lowered too. I will stay on it to eliminate a stroke. F 57 6 months

1  Heart disease Blurred vision right away. Sore throat. Intestinal cramping and pain two weeks in. Third shot yesterday triggered intense pain in right shoulder building up over 6 hours. Could not sleep, pain too intense. Tylenol has no effect on pain. I am off this stuff. Horrible. Hopefully this shoulder pain doesn’t now last weeks or months, but from other reviews here, it may.  1  Familiar high cholesterol Severe anxiety, severe depression, sore throat, ear congestion, internal tremors, hallucination of bugs, severe hip pain, neck, and shoulder pain, muscle weakness, severe fatigue, feeling like I need a blood transfusion, dry eyes, runny nose, and sinus congestion, feeling of unwell, respiratory congestion, and strange feelings in my upper chest, difficulty swallowing, feeling like my throat was closing off. Didn't put all of the symptoms together, as they didn't come at once. After a year of taking this twice a month I have no life.. I feel terrible. This medicine should be banned from the market. I am not taking another dose of this. I hope the internal tremors stop along with the rest of my symptoms. F 64 1 years
