| 3 | RA | Enbrel was a miracle re pain and mobility, however I developed a lot of food and chemical intolerances whilst on it. Had to go off it as it gave me Ulcerative Colitis after 4 years. A known side effect. Thankfully this secondary immune disease went away when I stopped taking it ! | Works well and some people will get very few side effects. I wish I could of stayed on it. My RA numbers are elevated, and I do not have skin flairs. My doctor told me that psoriatic arthritis may also show high RA numbers. If it is psoriatic, I will probably develop skin flairs in the future. I have been in pain for years and just started enbrel. The first few weeks on enbrel, I didn't have many side effects other than mild stomach pain and night sweats, but I was not sure if it was enbrel related. Enbrel worked great for the pain and I felt like I had more joint movement. I'm now going into my 5th week, but am having sinus problems and starting to get nose bleeds, so I will be stopping it for a while. ENBREL (ETANERCEPT): This medication is used alone or in combination with an immunosuppressant (such as methotrexate) to treat certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, and ankylosing spondylitis). Some brands of this medication are also used to treat a skin condition called psoriasis. These conditions are caused by an overactive immune system (autoimmune disease). The immune system attacks the body's own healthy cells, causing inflammation in the joints and skin. Etanercept controls your body's defensive response by blocking the action of a certain natural substance (TNF) that is used by the immune system. Treatment decreases redness, itching and scaly patches in psoriasis as well as the pain, swelling and stiffness of joints in arthritis. This medication can stop the progression of disease and joint damage, resulting in improved daily functioning and quality of life. This medication treats but does not cure autoimmune diseases.
