| 1 | Kidney disorder | My husband was prescribed prednisone for a kidney disorder to try to reduce the swelling in his kidneys. He took this for 6 months and the side effects we unreal! I was admitted and given IV solumedrol for 36 hours before being discharged with a prescription of prednisone, 20 mg twice a day for 4 days. No taper. Several hours after beginning the prednisone, I started swelling up (face, chin, abdomen, hands) and experienced extreme rage and crazy mood swings. I couldn't control my emotions. It's been 6 days since I took my last dose and I feel beyond fatigued, dizzy, blurry vision, depression, and extreme anxiety. My throat feels tight and I still have some face, neck, and upper back swelling. Psychologically, I feel lilt a different person and find no pleasure in anything. I hope this gets better soon. | I would never take this again unless there was no other alternative or it was a life threatening issue. Increased appetite | Had UC for 2 years now. Overall positive experience, likely because my side affects weren't so bad as others. I noticed the side affects more so at the higher dosages. Less as you taper down 5mg each week. Increased my appetite which I found to be a good thing after coming off a UC flare when my appetite was diminished. Helped me get into a state of remission after coming off one of my biggest UC flares where I lost 20lbs in 6 weeks. I don't know whether I still have original problem . All I know is I feel really bad . I am a strong person but this has knocked me completely . I will be on it for the next ten -12 months if they ween me off slowly , I don't know . All I know is I had bad aches and pains at night , some headaches , they diagnosed me with poly/ giant cell artritis . And prednisalone turned me into a sick , incapacitated , barely functioning person . I still don't know whether I will be cured . Never again, if there is an alternative . If they told me I would be like this for the rest of my life . I was prescribed a 5 day regimen of Prednisone. I didn't feel better and returned to doctor on 2/11. I was then prescribed an antibiotic along with a nebulizer with albuterol and Impratropium along with a 10 day dose of Prednisone 20 mg packet. Still didn't feel better and was hospitalized for 5 days. I was released on 2/27/17 with 20 mg Prednisone,10 day package. Last day of Prednisone was 3/11/17 and feeling so much better. But woke up the next day and could barely get out of the bed. Since then, I have had problems walking with my right hip and thigh. Very painful to walk, sleep, get up when sitting. I went to Urgent Care on 3/14/17. Had an x-ray done and it was negative. Physician stated that it could be from Prednisone. Yesterday, on 3/20, I saw a pulmonary specialist. I told him about pain. He stated it may go away and I may need physical therapy. I am so frustrated with the pain. I am now afraid of ever taking Prednisone again. Has anyone ever had this problem with Prednisone after completion of their dosage. Yes, I can breathe well now but not walking well at all.
