5  Wisdom tooth pain I experienced diarrhea shortly after I started taking the capsules. The dentist told me to stop taking them for two or three days, then resume. I did this and the diarrhea didn't happen again. I experienced tightness in my throat immediately after taking the capsule. The pain in my tooth subsided then stopped. I've noticed that since taking this drug, that my defecation has become more normal. It used to be on a weekly or longer cycle, with large bowel motion. It is now on a two day cycle with smaller bowel motions. An interesting drug! M 78 7 days

3  infected gum around impacted wisdom Heartburn could be severe, similar to getting big pill stuck part way down. It seemed to do fine at wiping out my infection. I learned from trial and painful error that heartburn could be kept tolerable by taking clindamycin only when my stomach was empty and then not eating for about 2 hours. Taking on a full stomach led to 30-60 minutes of misery starting about 5 min after swalloing. M 78 7 days

1  gum infections from rotted teeth Was prescribed this twice, many months apart, as teeth were pulled. About a week each time. Ended up with Clostridium difficile, a common result of clindamycin, necessitating 6 trips to ER due to dehydration from diarrhea and vomiting, including 3 hospitalizations of several days each. Fainted once in ER: Blood Pressure was 70/40! Given this med by pharmacist because dentist prescribed a penicillin derivative and my pharm records said I was allergic to it, at age 5. Found out later at hospital this was no longer the case. Plus I already had kidney disease and the pharmacist knew this and clindamycin has been known to cause kidney failure as well as life-threatening inflammation of the colon (Mayo Clinic website). So total incompetence. Anyway, my advice: NEVER take this drug. If you go to drugs.com it says: "...unfortunately the most severe common adverse effect of clindamycin is Clostridium difficile. If you have a mild C. difficile infection, the only treatment you may need is to stop taking the Clindamycin which has caused disruption of your bowel's usual bacteria." [It basically kills everything in your gut, i.e., including all the beneficial bacteria necessary for digestion.] After my last hospitalization I was sent to a specialist who does fecal transplants, as the docs had given up on antibiotics. Should have done this in 1st place: why give multiple courses of different antibiotics to get rid of a disease caused by antibiotics???!!! Ended up being totally exhausted, zombied out, for well over a year from my months-long ordeal with C. difficile. Transplant doc has campaigned for years against use of clindamycin; said there was no doubt it was the cause of my C. diff. Changing my gut flora via fecal transplant did get rid of C.diff.  1  gum infections from rotted teeth *See previous comment on June 19.* As prescribed this twice, many months apart, as teeth were pulled. About a week each time. Fainted once in ER: Blood Pressure was 70/40! Update Re: preceding entry 6/19/2020: Found out from pharmacist it was the dentist who prescribed clindamycin - pharmacist gave me a copy of the Rx from her. So my dentist in whom I'd fully trusted has told me a story, to put it kindly. Anyway, pharmacist should have changed the Rx knowing full well I had borderline severe kidney disease. Everyone's irresponsible at best. A cautionary tale, perhaps. Pharm. said all broad spectrum antibiotics can cause C. diff., but I looked that up on the web and found out that's a half-truth: clindamycin is up to 4 times more likely to cause C. diff. than any other broad-spectrum antibiotic! https://www.pharmacytimes.com/contributor/sean-kane-pharmd/2017/03/which-antibiotics-are-most-associated-with-causing-clostridium-difficile-diarrhea. From now on I will research any new med prescribed me BEFORE I fill the prescription. M 73 7 days

5  tooth: infection behind root I had an ever so slight headache after day 5, tired at day end. I did not have diahrea, nausea, etc. Followed advice and took probiotic inbetween doses... over the counter variety 1/2 capsule 2x a day with 16+ ounces of water. Took Clindamycin with 20+ ounces of water 4 times a day. I followed directions and did not lay down for 15 to 20 minutes after doses. I am not on any other medications. This product worked well. I took it after my root canal revealed complicated infection; my cheek was very swollen and is now back to normal F 71 7 days

1  Cellulitis infection in leg above a ER doctor prescribed even though he was told I was allergic to Streptomycin. Caused my blood pressure to go sky high, severe muscle spasms in neck to point I was nearly screaming. Could not lift my arms, dress myself, sleep even though I felt constantly drowsy, pain moved through muscles and joints in my body like a cyclone. At one point I felt only dying would help me. I have had many surgeries and am one who tolerates pain well. This nearly did me in. I stopped taking this drug the second day and went to see my primary care doctor who put me on Keflex 500 mg 4 timed a day and it is working well. The ER doctor had me taking 300 mg every 6 hours. This is a very dangerous drug. I don't recommend it for anyone. This is now the 7th day after I began taking it and my spasms continue although I am beginning to feel a tiny bit of improvement. This drug company should be ashamed for all the pain. It is evidently causing patients. Don't take this. F 71 2 days

1  possible infection after root canal I had a severe attack of heartburn...thought I was having a heart attack. I also awoke one morning with groin pain. I had done nothing unusual to have triggered groin pain, and although groin pain is not listed as a possible side effect, when I google searched "Clindamycin and groin pain" there are some discussions about a link. This groin pain has persisted (mildly) for the last two plus months since I completed the dosage, but yesterday became debilitating. I also has extreme diarrhea and was tested for Cdif, which this medication is known to trigger. Fortunately I did not have Cdif but it appears this medication aggrivated my Lymphoicytic Colitis condition, so maybe people with irritable bowel issues should not take Clindamycin. I've been told this medication is routinely prescribed by Orthodontists following oral surgeries but feel they should consider the very negative side effects over their, "shoot the bird with a canon" approach to treatment.  1  Tooth infection Within 12 hours I was suffering heart palpitations, chest pain, stomach and abdomen cramping and diarrhoea, which increased in severity. My heart started to thump and then felt as if it was being rapidly turned over in my chest. On 4th day it was missing beats every 8 seconds or so, as confirmed on a hospital Emergency Room ECG. • Chest pains over the central sternum area. These symptoms relating to the heart and chest caused me much concern, as I have high blood pressure and was under the care of a Cardiologist in another city I had just moved from. • My stools had a reddish tinge, presumably from intestinal/bowel bleeding. • Clamminess, shivering, feeling of fever • Rapid heart rate. • Shortness of breath. • Headaches, behind the eyes and centre forehead. • Gritty feeling in my eyes. • Tremor in hands and fingers. • Sudden appearance of a red rash on my lower arms. • Weakness, fatigue, had to stay in bed almost Our intestines have NO protection against these increasingly over-powerful drugs. Some create almost identical symptoms to poisoning, as with Clindamycin (Neocin). I took just 4 days’ dosage of this and had to be admitted to Emergency 3 times in a week, and experienced it raging through my intestines, liver, kidneys in an almost identical pattern as was caused by a redback spider bite a few years ago! Each organ it attacked gave symptoms of pain, malfunction, and my liver felt as if it was going to burst. I think this was the liver trying with all its might to rid my body of this drug. DEADLY. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is not a Penicillin, but something entirely evil as far as I have experienced. I had this given to me by a dentist after I specifically told him I wanted only Penicillin as it has always given me safe healing throughout my 69 years of life. He deceptively ‘tried’ this ‘new antibiotic’ (Clindaymycin) and told me nothing. Within 48 hours I was experiencing the worst symptoms I have ever had in my life after taking medication, and lived in fear of it having caused clostridium dif., which is known to have caused death. There are entire websites recording the devastating effects of this “medication”, and giving details of 95% of people having been caused similar agonising symptoms, and even being admitted to ICU with their bodies shutting down to death. PLEASE BE WARNED. F 69 4 days

2  Dental infection post teeth extract At first the worst was severe heartburn, but bearable with food and lots of water, but the side fx built up day by day: Nausea, pain under left breast, tight feeling in throat, dizziness, body aches like the flu, severe fatigue, anorexia, intractable lower back pain, sores in mouth, pustules on face, just so sick you feel dying would be a relief. The "expert Dr." insists its not the poison you're ingesting,it's the infection that is killing you. It got so bad I had to go to the ER. They have no clue it's the damn drug, they think it's the infection and write you another scrip. WTH!? Well, I stopped it, and it took 3 days to recover. Well, I'm allergic to amoxicillin, so now what? Hopefully, my immune system is strong enough to heal me. This antibiotic is bad news, and the worst part, the doctor's only alert you to the diarrhea issue. That's the only thing I didn't have. Don't let the doctor tell you it's all in your head, or it takes time to get better. They are educated by the "evil" drug reps, and their agenda is drug pusher big profits for Big Pharma. Patient beware. Oh, and pharmacy comes from pharmakeia, Greek for "sorcery." F 68 3 weeks

1  Infection in finger The first 3 days on this drug I noticed fatigue and a terrible taste in my mouth. On the 4th day I began suffering with unbelievably painful burning in my throat, stomach and between my shoulder blades. Even between doses my stomach hurt and eating was very unpleasant. After suffering the extreme pain 3 times I stopped the medication. I'll never take it again! The fatigue stayed with me, along with stomach upset long after stopping the drug. I am not allergic to Penicillin or any other antibiotic except Sulfa. I have no idea why the Dr prescribed this awful drug. My infection was small and not terribly bad. F 67 5 days
