| 3 | Hives | OMG! This was horrible at first. I've got a IV with Benadryl last night at the ER for hives. I felt it istantly. My body got hot and numb all over. I was so dizzy, and had speech problems. I've also had hallucinations. I saw stuff that wasn't even there. After a while I got used to it, and felt very, very sleepy. It wouldn't have been so bad if I had a little warning from the nurse, on how it effects people. When I woke up I felt disorientated and dizzy. Fast forward to the next morning and I still feel disoriented, drowsy, dizzy with a little bit of memory problems and the feeling of walking on air. I drove to work this morning and I had to recall if the stop light that I went through was red or green. NOT GOOD. This is a hardcore medication that needs to be taken lightly if you decide to take it or if administered at a hospital ask for a small dosage. I was rushed to the hospital for anaphylactic shock due to accident ingestion of chocolate which I am highly allergic to. I vomitted, aspirated and needed to be intubated to save my airway. About an hour later, they gave me another injection of Benadryl in my IV and again, within 5 minutes... I had vomitted and was again in Anaphylactic Shock. They finally figured out that NOT only am I allergic to the Chocolate (which really stinks because I do LOVE it) but I am also HIGHLY allergic to Benadryl. | I think this is a great medication for those who can safely take it as it CAN save your life in the event of a severe allergic reaction such as I had to Chocolate. Unfortunately, Benadryl nearly cost me my life. I would recommend not taking on a sever hangover. | M | 29 | 1 days | 2/15/2007 | 1 | allergic reaction | Restless, jumpy, kept actually leaping out of bed uncontrolably, my legs would thrash like they were trying to get something out them, agitated because I was SO tired but couldn't stop thrashing about, I would start to fall asleep then all of a sudden....thrash, my heart felt like it was pounding hard, my body hurt, I was crying and screaming. it was like I had all this energy and my body thought if I just kept moving it would go away. | My mother told me that I was given this as a child but I had a bad reaction, I am 26 now and have never had to take other than the time my mom gave it to me and I don't have any memory of that event. Last month I had a dystonic reaction to phenergan, (anti-nausea medication, supposively it is a rare reaction, in which I had no control over my body, it was alot like the benadryl reaction only on a super scale, very scary) The doctors told my husband that the treatment is usually benadryl, because it wasn't listed in my charts at the ER as an allergy and because I could not make decisions for myself and was completely out of it he had to make the decision to approve the benadryl, unknowing of its reaction to my body. I have never felt worse in my life, the benadryl alone is horrible but the dystonic reaction, I wouldn't even wish for my worse enemy. after they administered benadryl they quickly found out its reaction and gave me a big shot of ativan and continued giving me more until I f | F | 26 | 1 days | 12/1/2007 |
