I'm not sure why, but I've been told it could be to my nerves and stress. I discovered taking Benadryl about 3 years ago when I started giving it to my son occasionally for severe head allergies. It would help his allergies and enable him to get sleep at night while no other drug would. I decided to try it for myself because I was having trouble sleeping at night due to extreme itchiness,hives,and trouble breathing at times. It helped me tremendously! I've been using it ever since. I take two 25mg capsules about an hour before I go to bed and the result is wonderful. I give my son(11yrs old) one 25mg capsule occasionally when he can't sleep due to allergies. I sleep great and don't experience any hives. A few times I have tried not to take it so I could try to wean myself off of it, then if I started getting itchy and then take it, it seems to make me much more sleepy and restless. I guess because my body may be stressed from itching. It does seem to cause some dry mouth also, but not enough to bother me. If you do not like a sedated feeling you will not like using this drug.
