| 3 | Blood transfusion allergic reaction | The side effects were frightening to my mother who thought she was losing her mind. Her breathing was shallow and her hands and arms had tremors and involuntary repetitive motion. Easily could have confused this behavior with a stroke. | My mother fought the effects of the drug by having me talk through all events of her stay in the hospital until she could fix them in her mind. However, the price I pay is the side effects I listed. I thought I had arthritis until I figured out that the pains come and go according to whether I have taken Benadryl or not. The more Benadryl I've taken, the worse the pain, sometimes almost crippling.
