| 5 | Bacterial sinus / bronchial infection | Knee pain, lower back pain (kidneys - see below), sleeplessness (keep waking up, restless sleep), feeling weak / not myself. On the other hand - it is only for a few days so i endure as i do not want to risk pneumonia. It is effective, as most of the sinus / bronchial issues disappeared within 48hrs. | Have taken it before, was much more ill back then. I realise now that part of symptoms were actually caused by the medicine. It is very powerful and at higher doses, such as mine, I think some side effects are bound to occur. I didn't find them intolerable, just kind of putting my life on hold for ten days. The size of the dose scares me, but the clinical picture is that of pneumococcal infection, so I'd rather take this than have an URTI spread to my lungs. The only complaint I have is that my infection (which is still unidentified even after two strep tests, mono test, and a CBC) came back while I was still on Augmentin (I was good for 5 days). I now get to have a tonsilectomy, but that is beside the point here. Side effects depend on the person, what is being treated, and probably the age of the person. Doctor suggested a 14 day treatment for acute sinus, but I have difficulty with long term antibiotics due to liver damage, and understand my body’s tolerance quite well. Besides we don’t really know how much of the tooth problem could be affecting the sinus condition or visa versa, either way, a bad infection. After researching the drug, I also decided on lots of plain yogurt in between doses to keep the stomach as normal as possible. Overall, the pain has lessened and facial swelling has gone down. Was eating Chobani yogurt with every meal (add 4 Equal if you like sweeter yogurt), and then actually got constipated. Had not pooped in a solid week, and had to go to ER for enema. My muscles and joints are killing me. Thought it might be the infection, but lots of others are reporting this. This is the WORST antibiotic I have ever taken, but the Clavanate Potassium part is supposed to help resistant infections. Was in hospital on IV Vancomycin and Ampicillin (the IV form of Augmentin), and released on this oral form.
