4  Sinus/Ear Bacterial Infection Bloating, some gas at first, weakness particulary in legs, dry eyes with pressure behind them, diarreah once when I didn't take with food, strange dreams and moderate dehydration at night. Weight gain--gained 10 pounds in one week! As I was reading the other postings, I must assume no one else is drinking enough water while taking this antibiotic. I noticed a great difference in side effects when I consumed generous amounts of water. No more dehydration, fewer stomach pains, less dry eyes, so on and so forth. Only problem with drinking 5 glasses of water per hour, is major heavy urination. And this is a problem at night when trying to sleep! So I end up drinking less before bed, and just feel like crap when I wake up all dehydrated. In the morning, I am very turned off to water, but I have to force myself to drink at least 3 glasses to replenish what I lost overnight. I try to eat quite alot of in-betweener snacks to keep my stomach bacteria levels up. This antibiotic really seems to kill everything. Even good bacteria. I'm lactose intolerant, and this seems to complicate things. M 32 1 months

4  chronic sinusitus flare up all mentioned on this site. Dizzy. Mental changes/anxiety/depression ( pronounced). Cognition problems. Almost feel like passing out. Many of these also accompany sinusitis itself, but these are definately pronounced and beyond. FYI, I believe all antibiotics cause some depression. I suspected it years before I found this site !!!!  1  Sinus Infection SEVERE UNGODLY HUNGER. I eat and eat and can't get full. I feel like I'm going to throw up from how hungry I am. It has caused me to lose weight, have insomnia, feel light headed, be euphoric, and have the worse metal taste in my mouth. All of this and I've only been on it two days! It's to the point that I've actually had to call my doctor on the emergency after hours line to see if they can give me anything to counter the side effects. It seems to be working to clear the infection, so I am only seeking medications to counter the side effects. Though I must say, it's becoming rather alarming how terribly hungry I am. I can deal with no sleep and feeling weak... But this is something completely different than any side effect I have ever come across. It honestly feels like I haven't had food in a day and yet I'm currently eating! The hunger pain never goes away. F 25 14 days

5  Upper Respiratory Infection/Sinus A little stomach discomfort, a little gas but no bad taste, insomnia, dreams, tremors or other side effects. After the 1st day, my sinuses cleared enough that I could breathe again. It's just getting better. I'm on the 1000mg for 10 days. The only problem with the antibiotics is the size of the pills!!! I had taken Biaxin in the past when I was still smoking and suffered more severe side effects such as diarhea, bloating and bad taste in mouth, heart palpitations and "the shakes". I'm a non-smoker now and don't suffer from any side effects. The best time to take Biaxin is at supper time. Take the medication during your meal with milk if all possible. Keep hydrated, drink alot of water and you'll more than likely go though the 5-10 days without any major problems. F 26 10 days

5  sinus infection icky taste in mouth gassy for the first three or four days My infection seemed to clear up almost instantaneously, well, in 3 days at the most. I'm allergic to amoxycillin (sp?) and sulfa so I'm grateful for this one since erythromycin has the same effects but to a much larger degree. Works for me! F 29 10 days

5  Chronic Bronchitis with Asthma Slight nausea and loss of appetite, slight diarrhea and stomach cramp right after I take the medication. I have taken this drug 3 times (for three different exacerbations of bronchitis due to a cold or flu). It worked well and I felt better after a day or two but followed the doctor's orders and took it each time for the full 10 days. I didn't feel much like eating and was slightly nauceous but that could be from the illness. I have a chronic problem with asthma/COPD and when I get sick, my doctor pulls out 'the big guns'. He usually gives me prednisone as well but didn't this time, as taking a steroid continually has serious side effects. I read all the horror stories but Biaxin just helps me. I always sleep well. I did have a strange dream but big deal, who is to say the drug caused that? I always drink buttermilk with this medication to try to maintain the normal flora of the digestive system and eat a bigger breakfast than usual to keep the nausea to a minimum. Maybe the people who wrote the horror stories are either sensitive to this drug or downright allergic. It has helped me 3 times so far, I trust my doctor to give me the appropriate drug and my side effects are no worse than when I take any antibiotic and most of those don't help me. F 57 10 days

5  Sinusitis, otitis media, bronchitis Metallic taste, did seem to make just about everything taste different. Stomach upset occasionally. Did put me in a better mood, gave me energy. After not being able to kick this crud I have had for the last month after being on decongestants and other antibiotics (amoxicillin and omnicef), I will take the side effects. I am about half way finished with my 10 day dosage, it is a very strong antibiotic and high dosage. But overall, I'm satisfied as long as I am feeling better and kicking this crud I have had!  5  Sinus infection and Bronchitis Biaxin worked within a day of starting the medication.. I'm on day 6 and feel great!. My doctor recommended that I take a probiotic with the medication and it must be working as I've had no stomach issues. The only side effects I've experienced: strong metallic taste in my mouth and a few nights of insomnia. F 33 10 days

5  Hypersomnia Insomnia, mental confusion, lower back pain(muscular), depression, acidic stomach, mild headache. It helped a lot reading the truth about this drug here. The only thing that I found was almost intolerable, was the lower back pain, but I managed to mitigate this some with stretching exercises. I agree that it's a poison, of sorts. But for the purposes I needed it, I was willing to accept that. First off, let me say that the reason I'm satisfied with the medication, despite the side effects, is that my physician prescribed it for me to test the effect, on my problem with daytime sleepiness possibly related to my GABA-A receptors. This test proved that I may benefit from other more tolerable medications which help me modify this receptor's sensitivity. M 53 10 days

5  Bronchitis Bad aftertaste, awful gas, mild stomach pain. Nothing I couldn't deal with. Had a cold turn into severe bronchitis over the Thanksgiving holiday. Had never taken this before and wasn't aware of possible side effects until I read up on the meds after I picked them up. The side effects were minor (excessive farting was the worst) and I started feeling better by the third day. On day 9 now and am coughing what's left out. Almost feel normal again for the first time in three weeks. Also took Mucinex, Vitamin C and Ecanecea vitamins. M 36 10 days
