Today is my last day on this medication, which is good because I’ve literally ‘taken to my bed’ due to extreme fatigue -- I'm usually at the gym 4-5 days a week. The second day I started getting very uncomfortable stomach cramps. The third day it just got worse and I felt like I could not breathe. It felt like my throat was closing up, or I was having an anaphylactic reaction. I called the ambulance and was taken to the hospital. Still dont feel right. It is now day 3 and I am better, although I am still experiencing pain (5 on the pain scale) in one buttock. I tried to take a cool shower but then I had trouble breathing. I decided to head to the hospital on the way I couldn't stand up I had severe dizziness and broke out in sever sweats. I had to lay down on the sidewalk while a passerby called a taxi for me. I could hardly hold my head up. Then I experienced diarrhea. I got to the ER and collapsed. I was given an injection to counter the Augmentin. While laying in the ER bed my legs began to tremor. They checked my hospital records and about a year ago I had been given the same drug for another sinus infection, but I can remember no real side effects at that time. Oral surgeon extracted tooth but jaw pain didn't go away. Pain has been in jaw 1 month. Oral surgeon prescribed augmentin due to possible infection in bone. After 4th dose (all taken with a full meal), the symptoms started. Went to ER thought I was having a heart attack because I felt so bad. Had full battery of tests and heart is okay. Blood work was good. ER doc said blood work shows no sign of infection. She felt along jaw and had me open and close mouth and believes pain is from TMJ - my jaw is out of alignment. I can feel it after she showed me how, so went through a full day of misery and ER expenses to find out never needed the augmentin anyway. My advise - ask for an alternate antibiotic.
