5	Infection from wound on ankle	upset stomach	I had a very bad infection on my ankle. It started to sread into my foot and it began to swell. The doctor told me that I may have waited to long to see him and that the infection might require additional treatment at a specialized clinic. Before we did this he wanted to at least try an antibiotic. He gave Augmentin 875 and after just 36 hours the redness and swelling was almost 100% clear. 5	Sinus Infection	STOMACH CRAMPS!!!-- seem to be dairy related. I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone else to consider. The first time I was prescribed Augmentin I got these horrible stomach cramps. Since I was feeling so bad when I took it again later that night I took it with a bowl of cereal and had even more stomach cramps. I suspected it was related to dairy and then confirmed it when I had been on Augmentin for a few days with no cramping by avoiding dairy. 5	Augmentin	Taking for Walking pneumoni: Slight drowsiness, also must be taken with full meal or small meal if not you'll be on the toliet for a while and the cramps are terrible. 5	rare disease (CVID) /infection	Very limited mild side effects (stomach cramps, bloating)	I have a rare immunological disease in which I don't produce antibodies, thus I have no immune system to speak of and am on antibodies most of the time. I have had some horrible antibiotics that have caused rashes, vomiting, convulsions, seizures and anaphalaxis. So when they tell me I need to take Augmentin, I breathe a sigh of relief. 5	Sinus Infection	Obviously reading some of the other entries on this drug I guess your results could vary but I always took the medicine with food, plus one serving of yogurt and a healthy dose of quality Probiotics (Available at any health food store). Taking the probiotics with the augmentin helped me avoid all side effects with the exception of some loose stools but nowhere near the realm of anything severe. 5	Lower RTI/bronchitis	The first 12 tablet course is fine, *but* I always need longer than one course and side effects kick in big time by half way through the 2nd course, which is fortunately about when the LRTI clears up. Headaches, nervy stomach, difficult concentrating, aches, progressively worsening. And this time I also got hemospermia (blood in semen), but this is probably unrelated. 5	Yes	Loose stools...	Here is the deal, ALL antibiotics have side affects so let's just get that out of the way. The best thing to do is work at not getting sick in the first place then you do not have to deal with side affects. Having said that, with my condition I get sinus infections in a somewhat regular basis. I have even had sinus surgery, my body is not perfect. In any event, Augmentin does in fact cause some G-Trac issues. However, they are *managable* if you do the right things in advance. Get some good organic yogurt, I like Stoneyfield, and eat it regularily ALL the way through the course of your antibiotics. It will either ease or pretty much remove the loose stools problem that others report. As for the tiredness that other people report, I suspect its more related to being SICK. Your body is fighting something for god sake, its not meant to be a fun filled trip. 5	Cat Bite/Puncture Infection	Diarrhea, Blood in Stool, Red Itchy Eyes, Post Nasal Drip	This drug works and I'm satisfied with how fast it cleared my infection. The infection was spreading and my pancreas was slightly swollen, but the Augmentin cleared it up well in 2-3 days. I had diarrhea on days 2 and 3, but began probiotics, which eliminated the diarrhea. Day 5 I began to get red, itchy eyes that would not clear and post nasal drip. Day 6 I noticed blood in my stool and I decided to stop the drug. I lasted 7 days of a 10 day regimen. I would still take this drug again because my infection was serious and it cleared it quick. 5	Sinus Infection	None! I was expecting some side effects, but didn't have any. I would definitely take this drug again if neeeded.	I took twice a day - after eating breakfast and dinner. I took for 3 weeks. It helped my sinus infection and I had no side effects whatsoever. I bought probiotics (MegaFlor) just in case, but didn't really need them. 4	maybe sinus infection	Remembering dreams (I never remember dreams), very tired all the time after I was on it for a few days, loose stools, slight nausea after taking it for the first couple of days, sore throat	I was given this as something to try from my doctor because of the headaches/facial swelling I was having. I had an MRI,cat scan saw a facial specialist, neurologist and two dentists and they couldn't pinpoint my problem - Augmentin helped. This treatment was a good guess (by my doc) as the facial swelling has all but completely subsided and my headaches are only coming a few times a week as opposed to being there every minute of the day. I've read the horror-stories here, but overall I think I tolerated it well, and for the relief I've had for the last week or so - it was well worth it. 4	Ear and Sinus Infection	Stomach cramps, diarrhea, and headaches in the morning.	This medication is probably best taken before or after a meal to have something in your stomach. A few times hanging out with my girlfriend I took the medication with a glass of milk or water and that was usually the nights I'd get gas, cramps, and eventually diarrhea. 4	Sinus infection	Runny stools 4 times a day, queasy stomach	In a three week period I had a bad cold followed by the flu followed by a sinus and respiratory infection. Took Augmentin along with Prednisone (steroid for my sinus inflamation issues). Since my flu had already cleaned me out, the runny stools caused by this medicine were just another chapter in the story. Funny thing though, as long as I had a full stomach I didn't have much of an issue with it but then the number of the runny stools picked up. To stop the runny stools I cut down on the "grazing" I was doing but then my stomach issues started again. I wished I had heard of the yogurt solution before now. 8 days down and 7 to go. I recommend you buy lots of extra soft Charmin and take all of the medicine you've been prescribed. I do feel much better than I did before but I just wish I could sit in a chair. In the beginning I was very vigilant about eating LOTS AND LOTS of yogurt, at least 3x/day. I started forgetting about the yogurt after a week and that is when the pains/loose motion started. Yogurt is very helpful because it keeps replenshing the good bacteria in your GI tract, which is constantly being killed doff by the antibiotoic. 4	Sinus Infection	No intestinal issues. Rash, Hives, itchy soles of feet and palms of hands.	I took complete 10 day course of 875mg Augmentin. 24 hours after the last pill was taken, I developed severely itchy soles of my feet and palms. 12 hours later had large bright red welts of hives across my abdomen and chest...It looked like someone had beat me with a narrow belt! Hives have come and gone over the past five days, mostly on arms, chest, and groin area. Itchiness comes and goes during the day. Called my doctor and talked to the nurse, and she said these symptoms were likely due to the Augmentin. I asked why I didn't have immediate symptoms, instead after the course of treatment was completed? She said I may have developed a gradual intolerance to it. I have taken Augmentin in the past with no ill effects, so I guess my body has built up a gradual intolerance? 3	Perianal abscess/fistula	Was fine from day 1 to day 10. On the 10th day, I experienced itching on the back, side of rib cage, and belly. Itching would become intense at night. Day 11, noticed a rash on belly and took only half dose. Itching is very intense. Physician says to stop taking it. Was supposed to take it for 30 days.	Seems like 875 twice a day is a lot. 3	Chronic Sinusitis	Extreme Stomach BLOATING starting after about 10 days, I am now on day 15 - my waist expanded 4 inches in a few days, but I only put on 5 pounds, moderate stomach cramps. Also taking prednisone so don't know if some effects come from that - cannot have a normal meal or my stomach feels like it is going to POP. I am moderate to severe miserable, but I am going to try to stick with it. No diarea, no constipation, very mild nausea, just this incredible abdominal distress, and lots of gas.	I think the med kills the flora in your upper intestine, so more food must be processed in lower intestine, leading to inflamation of lower intestine. Was scared enough by the bloating I called my doctor. I want rid of the sinusitis so badly that I am going to torture myself on this med for another 10 days, wish me luck. 3	Sinus Infection	Slight dizziness, numbness around skull, insomnia, some knee joint swelling, rash, hives, constant itching, shortness of breath, loose stool	I had been taking for 1 week and had an upset stomach one night. Took some Diotame (equivalent-Pepto bismol)and broke out in hives on chest and neck. Researched it afterwards an understood that it had an ingredient increased the potency of Augmentin. Bottom line - check before you take anything even OTC drugs. Took 5 days for hives to settle down and for me to get decent sleep again - pretty miserable for a while. Knee joint swelled up for no apparent reason - lasted for 2-3 days. It didn't hurt but and was afraid to do much for fear of causing injury. Experienced some trouble breathing at night during the hives so called the doctor. The doctors ARNP offered me a sleep aid (Valium). I declined and it wasn't until afterward I realized my breathing problems were probably because of the allergic reaction I was having. She didn't ask many questions just kept offering the valium so I would go away. Luckily it wasn't serious but I was a little ticked off at her and realized your’e the only one that is watching out for yourself sometimes. 3	Sinus infection	The first few days I had the typical, expected diarrhea, that was simple. After a week or so my joints and muscles were all aching. This went on for the entire 6 weeks of the regimen. It took more time for the overall aching to go away, but I had residual, seemingly permanent issues in my shoulders, more so in one than the other. I am beside myself since I have never had any ongoing pain where I can't put on my shirt sleeves, lift a certain way or continue my gym routine as before. I plan to get an MRI this week and see what's happening in there, then need to talk to a lawyer I guess. 3	sinus infection	Neverending headache! My head feels like it's about to burst. Pain behind eyes, and cheekbones. Severe low back pain/stinging, and mild intermittant chest pain. Heartburn, with decreased appetite. Let's not forget the mouth sores, which are very sensitive/painful. Night sweats, fatigue, and now severe anxiety. These dreadful thoughts are so consuming, I'm convinced that I have something very dreadful going on.	My first round of Augmentin went fine, no side effects. I'm halfway through my second 10 day course, and since day one of the second course, I've been miserable. 2	Sinusitus	Horrible stomach pain and cramps, constipation and diarrhea, aching all over stomach area and back, insomnia and extreme tiredness, difficult breathing, chills, disorientation...probably more I can't think of!	I took this once for a sinus infection, and don't remember it being so bad, but it didn't clear my infection up completely. This second time around, though, it has been a nightmare. My GI tract has NEVER been so messed up! I thought I was getting the flu or a killer virus for a while, or maybe becoming a hypochondriac. Thank God I called my pharmacist and found this website. This has been the worst experience I have EVER had taking a medication, and it is not worth the side effects. Request something else ASAP!! 2	Nagging Strep	Had this prescribed to me at the end of my long battle with a bad case of strep. It worked instantaneously after day 1, but woke up that evening to severe heartburn, burning throat, nausea, and diarrhea.	They don't lie when they say its stronger than Amoxicillin! 2	blocked sinus	Consistently very 'loose' BMotion over the time I took the drug, but not quite diarrhea, which was odd. Always feeling 'full' in the bowel. A desire developed not to eat solid food. Intermittent short fevers, (?!) usually at night. Constant cramping in the very low area of the bowel that progressed in strength (I thought I had prostate problems) finally causing me to faint very early one morning. Energy levels trashed.	blocked Bile Duct (therefor affecting Liver function) directly linked to taking Augmentin. My doctor was quite specific that this was the condition - shame I can't remember it's name. I would have thought "impaired Liver function" might be an important enough side effect to have on a site, somewhere. The blood work showed the doctor an indication of Gall Stones - except I didn't have any. February/March this year. Sydney, Australia. I found blended fruits/smoothies (lots of apple) were the only food my body seemed to want. Good for you anyway so I can't complain.. I was the 2nd Person my doctor had seen this year, with this reaction. No idea if it had anything to do with fixing a 'blocked sinus'. 2	Respiratory Infection	Very tired, mood swings, loss of appetite and horrible diarrhea at times	Was prescribed 875 mg twice daily for 10 days. I noticed an immediate change in my respiratory condition after the first dose. Each day my cough has decreased and overall I feel pretty good... except for the diarrhea. I had it only once or twice a day on days 1 & 2, but when day 3 came along I found my self going anywhere from once to three times an hour. Sorry to be graphic but this was horrible watery bile that burned. The doc recommended the BRAT diet which I started in the morning, by mid afternoon I wasn't having to make bathroom stops anymore and went almost a full 24 hours with no diarrhea. I also started eating live culture yogurt which seems to be helping. I have six more days to go which I'm not looking forward too. My doc said that from here on out if diarrhea occurs more than twice in one day I should stop taking the Augmentin and come in for another eval. 2	strep throat	Only side effect I had was itchiness, which was EXTREME. Body parts itching: upper thighs, chest, stomach area, upper arms, arms. However the worst itchy feeling was in the extremeties (hands and feet). Wierdly enough, no itchy feelings on face or scalp area; I suspect it has to do with those parts of the body with more blood flowing. As with some other postings, the itchiness started on day 3, at which point I thought it was dry skin and put some oil on my skin (a futile attempt). By the 5th day itching was over the top. Stopped medication on 7th day, now using cefuroxime axetil, but it doesn't seem to be as powerful as augmentin in treating strep throat. Turns out the bacteria had actually developed resistance to it and throat was not even getting better. Waiting for culture to find out what the alternatives are.	Washing hands in cold water helped the itching. If there was a different option I would NEVER EVER go for this medication. The itchiness is keeping me awake even though I feel VERY VERY sleepy. 2	Foot Infection	Posted a few days back. Had tremors the first few times after taking the medicine. Stopped after day four because of odd sensations. I am getting 'zaps'like I did when I stopped taking an SSRI. 1	suspected infection of incision	Lethargy within a day. Stomach discomfort within 3 days. Built up to fatigue, heartburn and nausea and loss of appetite within 5 days. By the 6th day, I had diarrhea and then the vomiting started. I couldn't believe the extent to which I was retching to eventually toss up a little thin, greenish/grey fluid every hour or so.	Had lost 10 lbs. and couldn't keep water down; doctor almost gave IV fluids. After about 30 hrs. off the meds, I could keep down a little gatoraid and saltines and quickly advanced to more substantial food and within another day, I was ravenous. 1	sinus infection	Horrible stomach pains, constant diarrhea, numbness in left cheek and forehead, exhaustion, insomnia due to stomach pains, horrible dreams when I could sleep, labored breathing, confused, nervous, anxious, irritable, constantly tired and wore out.	I had a bad sinus infection. I get these a few times a year and my doc usually gives me zpac which always works fine for me. For some reason he gave me Augmentin since he thought it was pretty severe. Well I will never ever take this again. I actually thought I was going to die at times. The combination of the symptoms I described were just brutal and very scary. Especially the numbness in my face. I thought I was going to have a stroke or had bellspalsy for god sake. I just finished this yesterday and I still feel like total garbage. I can't think straight, stomach is worse than having the flu and on and on. And the worst part is I had to go back to my doctor and I told him about all of this and he didn't seem to even care. It's all about the money with them! Also I still have the sinus infection. 1	Sinus Infection	on day 4 I experienced cramping in my back and stomach-severe enough to make me think I was having back spasms or kidney problems. However, the back pain was accompanied by strange stomach cramping and having to use the bathroom frequently, although no diarrhea. Had to lie on the floor for over 6 hours to keep my back from spasming. I decided not to take my second does and am feeling better. I also experienced stomach cramps within hours of taking the medication-my sinuses feel better-if I need anything else I will ask for a Z pak-never again will I go through this pain. 1	Tonsillitis	Severe itching, mild blistering, insomnia, diarrhea, possible yeast infection, fatigue	Immediately after I started taking the drug I began to itch terribly, I thought it was from bug bites in my bed, so i washed my sheets, then thought it was an allergy to the soap i was using. My doctor didn't tell me to take probiotics with this, and gave me no warning whatsoever. He only told me to treat the insomnia by taking Benadryl, which does nothing. Caphlex, the z-pack, and amoxycillin don't do anything for me so he thought that a max shot of Zephrin and this could make my tonsils not swell, he was wrong. I'm halfway through the dosage and noticed a small dry red patch of skin on the head of my penis, i'm wondering if i should stick through the dosage or not. 1	Sinusitis	After only taking this drug for two days, I am definitley going to discontinue using it! Within the first 2 hours, I had severe diarhea. After that the first night, when I tried to sleep, it gave me a slight tingling sensation in my feet, then by the 2nd night, I had this tingling sensation all over my body and could not sleep the entire night! 1	Uncontrollable cough, phlegm & more	Taken with prednisone. Only side effect for the 1st 7 days was having to urinate every hour (could have been the prednisone). Finished the prednisone and on the 8th day, around evening time I'm sitting watching TV with my girlfriend when I had a sudden rush of this hopeless feeling. Everything slowed down and I felt lost in the depth of my thoughts. After thinking I was going to die, vomiting 4 times (which lead to the straining of the muscles in my neck), my blood pressure rising (w/racing heartbeat), and feeling like I had a fever (my temp measured normal) I was able to 'see' passed the current minute I kept feeling I would never live through.	I am unsure if everyone will experience what I did, but all 150lb, 5'7" of me experienced this hell (understatement) I'm attempting to currently escape, now off the medicine for ~2 weeks. I am looking into therapy as well as any natural serotonin producers. I feel completely drained and am stuck in this anxious craze. I want my life back. 1	Sinusitis	Diarrhoea, migraine. The diarrhoea was quite bad, but actually started to get better, when I was hit with two migraines on two consecutive days. I suffered migraine as a teenager, but this was only the second time I'd had it in my adult life. The forced me to discontinue the Augmentin as for me migraine involves a lot of vomiting. 1	Facial surgery. Fractured socket	Started with Nausea, headaches and aching all over and very dark urine. Stoped taking the drug but 3 days later I have severe itching. Soles of feet,legs, hands and upper body.	I was given this drug as a precaution for infections following my injury. Surgery was required and again as a precaution the drug was given.
