1  Heartburn Tried so hard to make this drug work as I have been on all the rest of them with all the same side effects. Biggest one for me is diarrhea. Insomnia also awful and body aches. Basically I end up just not feeling well. Most of it gut related. Will not take again. F 67 1 years

1  Awful side effects At first worked so well for GERD. But then I developed frequent heart palpitations and sever watery diarrhea. It got so bad I was afraid to leave home. I was on linzess. I took myself off this thinking this was my issue had a complete cardiac work up - I stopped the Dexilant and the heart palpitations has mostly all resolved. Definitely improved. The diarrhea has also stopped. I was able to go back to linzess no issues. The dexliant was great for gerd but not at the cost of my life! I'll figure out something else to help my gerd F 54 19 days

1  Acid teflux It worked at first, had been on for 3 months straight 60 mg once a day.. Started experiencing shortness of breath and my wheezing has gotten worse. I ended up in the ER one day after my vision went completely wacky like I was looking thru a kaleidoscope. By the time I got home, which I have no idea how I did because I could not even read signs! Then I started experiencing peripheral neuropathy and my whole body was tingling like I had my finger in an electrical socket! It was horrible. I had to call 911. I was admitted to the hospital and my magnesium and potassium levels were very low. The doctors could not figure out anything after many test. Now reading all these reviews I believe it most likely was caused by dexilant. I also had developed pretty severe aniexty of which I have never experienced before. I felt like I could not handle anything and could not calm down a few times when I got into an argument. Which is not like me. I am pretty healthy overall besides my acid reflux, a Realtor and very calm usually and can handle stress. I am still experiencing neuropathy daily in my arms and I am hoping this will eventually go away since I stopped the dexilant a week ago. I am also hoping my shortness of breath will improve. I requested a PH test to be done instead to learn more about when, how much and why I am refluxing to try to get to the root cause instead. I have a sense of relief maybe putting the pieces of the puzzle together after reading others stories. F 60 91 days

1  Gastritis I took dexilant for gastritis. I started to develop calf cramps at first , followed by heart palpitations and shortness of breath. Today I ended up in the ER at the advice of my doctor and pharmacist. My heart rate was over 120, usual resting heat rate for me is around 55-60 bpm. I have stopped taking the dexilant, the ER doc mentioned it would take about 5 days to flush the remaining drug from my system. Will not be taking it again. M 38 10 days

1  GERD & Gastritis Vertigo! Light headed! Heart palpitations! Headache! Muscle soreness! Dexilant sent me to the ER twice in one month! After taking it for almost 2 months I was driving to work and became dizzy, managed to walk the 1/2 block from the parking lot to work and had to call 911! My dr changed all my bp meds thinking that might be it. 2 weeks later I was back in the ER with heart palpitations and vertigo along with shortness of breath, both times my heart rate had dropped to 48! I thought I was gonna DIE! The only thing different was the Dexilant, while it did help the gerd the side affects are not worth it!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DRUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  1  Reflux I took one pill and became very sick five hours later. Severe diarrhea, chills, feverish...up all night thinking I had food poisoning. Couldn’t walk the next day I was so wiped out. Finally felt better three days later so took another pill. Five hours later was in same boat. My reflux got better but I was so sick I couldn’t eat. I had stabbing pains in my chest and head the second time I took it. My kidney still hurts and I’m still dragging. That’ll be a NO from me, dawg. F 62 2 days

1  Suspected gastritis Took this just for 3 days. On the fourth all of a sudden started to have nasty side effects, almost went to the ER: headache, dizziness, chest and stomach pain, low grade fever (38). Stopped immediately, fever went away the following day. But three days later still feeling odd, not able to eat normally (frequent small portions). Thankfully, had no diarrhea. M 47 3 days

1  Hiatus Hernia causing severe Reflux An hour after taking the capsule, whole body felt very strange, Pulse rate went up to over 80 (normally 65) Awful migraine, Gas build up in the large colon is painful. Felt very sick so took a slice of Ginger to chew which helped. Now, 6 hours later feel totally spaced out with pressure across the chest, sneezing, GIT Pains, very loose stool. This was recommended to me by a doctor after he wanted to give me Pantoprazole 40 MG. My experience with Pantoprazole over years has been bad but this Dexilant is even worse. Nightmares with muscle and bone pains make sleep almost impossible. Today is my 2nd and last day of taking this product. M 78 2 days

1  GERD Extreme Fatigue, Shortness of Breath, Chest Pains, Headache, Foggy, Numbness in arm. I could barely stand for more than 20 min and at times struggling to catch my breath. I thought I was going to DIE! Several trips to the doctor and even to the ER. Finally stopped taking, and symptoms disappeared. While it DID help tremendously with my GERD, not worth it!! Like at all. Worst experience EVER! Like others stated, this medication DID take away my GERD! However the side effects I had were not worth it! Everyone reacts differently to medication. Each time I went to the doctor I asked if my symptoms were being caused by this drug and they all said no. But after complete work ups, they had no idea what was causing it. As soon as I stopped taking, I magically felt fine. Going from thinking I was going to die for 2 weeks and then all of a sudden symptoms disappear when I stop taking this, is no coincidence!!
