| 5 | Fibromyalgia | I was on Savella over 5 years ago and had to stop taking it because I was put on Effexor and you can't take Savella and Effexor together. My Fibromyalgia used to only effect me over cold months now it is effecting me 24-7 all 12 months. I'm no longer on Effexor and now just started back on Savella. I live in North Carolina and we get hot days. Heat works great for my Fibromyalgia and usually take 3 hot showers a day when my Fibromyalgia is flared up. Now that I am back on Savella it has almost taken all the inner burning away and the ide spread chronic pain I was feeling like I've been in a physical fight. The only thing that is bothering me with this med this time is I feel like I took a sleeping pill. I just want to sleep. I think I am going to cut back to just taking Two by mouth of 50mg one time a day instead of two by mouth twice a day. I feel this may be a bit much just starting back on it again and need to gradually work up to the higher dose. I also have a little nauseated feeling that I can tolerate since I now know longer feel like I've been physically beat up since back on Savella. I also have arthritis spreading throughout my body so that and Fibromyalgia is not a good mixture. To sum all this up I am happy to be back on Sevella and 95% pain free however the side effect of this making me just want to sleep I am going to have to reduce my intake and see if that reduces the just want to sleep I am encountering. | To those out there who suffer with the invisible disease called Fibromyalgia my sympathy is with all of you. I know how this disease can effect your concentration, lack of ability to move or lift, chronic wide spread pain and no energy. You just have to try different things to see what work best to relieve pain. My good days is when I have motivation to get things done my bad days I lay around and do nothing except take several hot showers that work for me to ease the chronic pain. I keep my central air on 75 with a ceiling fan. Cold effects my Fibromyalgia bad and brings on the chronic pain. I actually have to wear a jacket in the Spring/Summer time in a grocery store ect because of how cold they keep the store. Stay strong and don't let Fibromyalgia get the best of you. Don't be hard on yourselves if you have days that you can't seem to accomplish anything. Prior to that, I started with the tiration pack, and took that for 2 weeks. Then, my dr. increased my dosage slowly, to 50 mg. twice per day. I took that dosage for about a month, and I didn't notice any decrease in my pain. My dr. explained that it usually takes about 2 months (on the highest dose that will work for you) to start feeling relief in pain. I tried to be patient. Now, after being on a total of 200 mg. per day, my fibro. pain has greatly diminished. I still have pain, but it's gone from a level 10 (horrible, horrible pain...can't function) to a level of 2 (still have numbing, aching pain, but I can live with it). My pain was where it was greatly effecting my quality of life, and I literally didn't want or feel like doing much of anything. I was on Lyrica for about five months, and Lyrica worked at first, but after four months, it completely stopped working for me. Savella has been a lifesaver for me. For those of you who cannot afford the Savella, please go to the Savella manufacturers website and go to the Patient Assistance area. You can get Savella for free, if your income qualifies. After two months of the pill the my side effects are gone except the shortness of breath and I don’t require as much sleep as I did before. I do notice if I don’t eat at regular intervals I get nausea but if I eat it goes away. | It took my pain away!!!!! It was scary as hell that first month with my heart racing and being short of breath ( I even went to the hospital one night because of chest pains) but it was worth it. It did wonders for my cfs but adversely affected my heart. To update: The cfs problems returned within 2 days of ending Savella. Now I'm on Norco 5mg, twice a day, one in morning and one in the afternoon. It does a good job of knocking out the pain and fatigue. I know people go nuts when you mention using an opiate because of the addiction potential. They need to back down. Honestly Savella gave me my life back and now finances preventing me from getting Savella are taking my life away again :( One warning is to check drug interactions CAREFULLY, I can't even take cold medicine and I was taking tramadol (Ultram) at first and ended up with seratonin syndrome and nearly passed out at my kids' birthday party in 2009. Luckily I made the connection, went to drugs dot com for the interaction checker and realized what was wrong and called my doctor right away. I could say I had hot flashes, but I was 52-53 at that time. That's called menopause. Many sides effects I could have attributed to the Savella were in reality caused by other things. | I went off all my meds(oxycontin, etc.) in 2008 to go on the study for Savella. Unfortunately I got the placebo. I literally almost died. My BP shot up to 210/120 for 8 months. I was totally bedridden the whole time. I went on Lyrica and gained 50 lbs. in 5 weeks, plus it did nothing for the pain. Then my kidneys shut down. Finally by June of 2009 Savella went on the market. I could feel a difference in 1-2 weeks. I went on the highest dose fairly quick because my pain is so severe and causing other health problems. Just remember it is not a pain pill. It will not get rid of ALL the pain. It will not work for everyone. Nothing man does will get rid of this illness. You will have to listen to your body to help manage your pain and other symptoms. And most of all, if you have fibro, as I have for 25 yrs., realize that everything you do will have a consequence to your health. Fight the urge to be overly focused on the pain. I have been on just about every drug and holistic pill there is. Savella hasn't gotten rid of all my pain, but it has worked the best for me.
