RECLAST  (ZOLEDRONIC ACID):  This medication is used to treat a certain type of bone disease (Paget's disease) that causes abnormal and weak bones. Zoledronic acid is also used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in men and in women after menopause. It may also be used to treat or prevent osteoporosis in people who are taking corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. It works by slowing the breakdown of bone and keeping bones strong. It also helps to reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as bisphosphonates. Another zoledronic acid product is used to treat bone problems that may occur with cancer. The 2 products should not be used together.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteoporosis NEVER will I have this infusion again. It's been 12 days of joint pain, muscle spasms, headaches, nausea, vomiting, malaise, irregular heart beat, shortness of breath--the MD did not warn me of these side effects, had to go online to find out. 65 1 times

5  osteoporosis I did not have any side effects. I had infusions in 2013,2014, and 2015. DXA scan in 2016 indicated bone mass increase of 17% in spine, not sure what it was in femoral neck. F 73 5 years

5  Osteoporis I have never really had any side effects with this drug. I make sure I drink a lot of water before and after the IV. I have taken just about every drug available for osteoporosis. Reclast has improved my t-scores in my hips and has maintained my spine score. The question I have is how long can I keep taking it? One Dr says as long as i want. Another says IDK. I even called the company and they couldn't tell me. They wanted a Dr. to call. I understand they need health information, but I doubt if my Dr will sit on an 800# to get the information. So I will take it one more time and then I really don't want to go back to other drugs since they didn't help. F 73 4 years

5  pagets in spine T7 Flu symptoms next day, for 24 hours, fatigue for a few days. A few days later SEVERE foot, knee lower leg pain. Swelling hands, feet. Worse after sitting for extended period, better after movement. Worsened existing constipation issues.Water, heat, massage, helped IMMENSELY. I'm 6 weeks out and still having all of these symptoms. I'm not a faithful water drinker, and I think that would have helped immensely if I had been more diligent with that. They seem to be better at times. I've also been taking Acetaminophen, and Naprosen once daily. Water seems to have a SIGNIFICANT impact.I also highly recommend Deep Tissue massage and soaking in a hot tub or Whirlpool if available. I'm told the half life of Reclast is 90-120 days so I'm hopeful it will subside soon.Water Water Water! I think that should have been stressed as an instruction! Although the painful side effects that I have are far worse than the pain I was experiencing before. As a Healthcare professional (x-ray) I know that Paget's is a HORRIBLE disease. I was devastated before I found out Reclast could "cure" me. I feel it's worth the discomfort over untreated Paget's. I took off a week after the treatment not knowing what the side effects would be. I have been working two jobs through it all. Being on my feet has been excruciating some days and others it almost feels normal. I'm told this has the highest effectiveness rate for Paget's and that's the most important thing to me. F 58 1 days

5  severe osteoporosis basically none I am updating my previous posts. I continue to have no side effects 5 mos into Reclast. My mobility and bad foot pain is greatly improved. I'm happy with the results so far. After a year on Reclast i will most probably do a year of Evenity, then go back on Reclast. That is my Drs plan for me. He is a nationally known osteop expert so I'm trusting his judgement but still do my own research. F 68 5 months

5  Bad osteoporosis I'm no longer taking this medication. I am now on a drug holiday. A break from reclast for a few years. Per Dr., it will stay in system and offer protection for a year or so. This break to let your bones remodel normally for a while. I will continue to get dexas and go back on in a year or so. I've had no fractures and my mobility is better overall so i'm happy with Reclast. F 70 3 years

5  12/31/14 I have not had any side effects from Reclast. I opted for this since I have had GERD since I was a kid and other drugs would have made that more of an issue. Bone density tests show positive growth. I making sure i have the calicum I need also. I have to decide if I want to continue next year since I have done 5 years. F 64 5 years

5  osteoporosis None I was very nervous about having this infusion but in the end just decided to do it. I had it on the NHS and had lots of blood tests in preparation and was told to drink lots and take paracetomol on the day as well as calcium and vit D for 2 weeks. It is now day 5 and I have noticed absolutely nothing. I hope this continues. I will have follow up blood tests in 2 weeks to check calcium and vit D levels. F 64 1 years
