XYZAL  (LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE):  Levocetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing. It is also used to relieve itching and hives. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Levocetirizine does not prevent hives or prevent/treat a serious allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis). If your doctor has prescribed epinephrine to treat allergic reactions, always carry your epinephrine injector with you. Do not use levocetirizine in place of your epinephrine.   FDA Approval Date: 2007-05-25 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Asthma/allergies Extreme muscle pain every day that I kept trying to push through, increasingly got worse. I started thinking when did this start? XYZAL...8/9 MONTHS ago. I quit 2 weeks ago and an starting to get relief from pain. Only then did I read reviews!!! REALLY!!! Depression. it was the worst I have ever felt, having thoughts I should not have. Depression is slowly improving. I didn't even feel like myself Horrible cannot describe it! As far as allergies it worked, NOT worth it!!! Why is this even on the market?? 54 8 months

2  Allergies and Asthma Chronic fatigue that made me see a specialist. The doctor told me it was the Xyzal causing the fatigue. Felt foggy and irritable all the time. Vivid nightmares. Put me to sleep instantly, but difficult time waking up. Since stopping Xyzal, I don't have fatigue issues or feel like I'm in a constant hazy state. Been off of it for two weeks, but am having trouble falling asleep naturally. It did help with my severe allergies, but the cons were not worth it. F 30 10 months

1  Seasonal allergies Had usual allergy symptoms of runny nose and itchy eyes. Took one half of a pill. Didn't sleep all night, hurt all over, developed chills, a fever and bad headache, along with a cough I didn't have before. Having trouble concentrating and following conversations. My runny nose and itchy eyes are gone but the other side effects are not worth it. F 46 1 days

4  Sinus I am having way too many mood swings and my weight gain up to 6 kgs has got me really irritated and depressed. I came here to look for comments that people are going through the same side effects and I’m happy to know that I am not the only one . I’ll be stopping it right away though it has helped me with my breathing but I am at my lows F 31 30 days

2  Allergies Exhaustion, Vivid dreams, Depressed Every day during the week I can barely wake up since taking this medication. This weekend I had an opportunity to finally sleep in and I slept over 12 hours both nights. Each night having very vivid dreams/nightmares. I have also fallen asleep right after work almost every night last week. I have also felt as though I am losing more hair than normal.. and have been feeling down the past couple of days. I started taking this medication because I was experiencing anxiety/moodiness on all of the other available allergy meds, but honestly my allergy symptoms are barely fixed. I tried cutting down to half a pill and although I'm not as tired, it's not working as well. F 24 14 days

5  Hives Allergies None I have had severe allergies hives for 25 years. I have taken all of the allergy medications. I also took lyrica cymbalta and antibiotics for many years because of the allergy hives pain I was in. They all worked a little, but nothing like Xyzal!! Absolutely zero side effects. As far as I'm concerned this is a miracle drug. It just works like no other. M 57 60 days

3  Allergies/asthma Odd that i am just now beginning to associate my fatigue/ sleepiness with this product. I assumed it was my BP med, and still might be in part. Have had slight hair thinning, but not sure if it is the Zyzal. F 65 2 months

4  bad allergies None that I know of. I've been using all the over-the-counter allergy pills like Claritin Zyrtec Etc for a long time with pretty much no results. I have a chronically dripping nose and post nasal drip and I constantly stuffed up nose to where I can't breathe through it. I am amazed that with xyzal I can breathe through my nose for 24 hours. I find that amazing. I always woke up with a stuffed up nose and I don't anymore. I still have a drippy nose a little bit and it didn't really help with the post nasal drip too much but being able to breathe through my nose is worth taking it since I don't have any other side effects from it.  1  Allergies I have used Zyrtec off and on for 20+ years with it's usual side effects. But thought I would try Xyzal to see if the side effects were not as bad. Wrong! Terrible nightmares and heart pounding. Very poor sleep and zero get up and go. I'm pretty use to dealing with side effects but this was over the top. Stay clear. Also made me more itchy than taking nothing. Chills with pin points of pain all over my back and shoulders, thought I was getting shingles. Glad I only bought the box of 10. There in the basket now.  1  allergies/asthma Tiredness, Headache, Lightheaded, Dizziness, Irritable My doctor switched me from Zyrtec to Xyzal. He said there are less side effects. Obviously every body is different. My body is so sensitive I knew right away the different side effects I was feeling from this medicine and I knew I could not tolerate them. I had no problems taking Zyrtec that I am aware of so I was surprised the doctor wanted to switch them, but he insisted. So listen to your own body. Not every one works the same. F 34 2 days

5  Seasonal allergies It worked great for 2 to 3 months. Cleared up itchy nose, eyes, post nasal drip/cough, and itchy roof of mouth. Some drowsiness but tolerable. It was like a miracle drug at first. It has now lost effectiveness and seems to be doing nothing. I will have to try zyrtec again. I have also been getting allergy shots for 1.5 years. F 50 120 days

3  Allergies It did really help my allergies but the nightmares ( that I never used to have) were so vivid and awful and I had real anger issues also not like me, so torn because they do work but seriously the anger is no joke. Side note I am constantly hungry. F 39 7 days

5  Chronic runny nose, year round For the past 15 years I have tried every over the counter allergy medication with absolutely no benefit. I have a runny nose (chronic rhinitis) year round, and Xyzal is the ONLY medication that has ever helped me. And it really does work for 24 hours. The only downside is the fatigue I feel the next day, so I cut the dose in half and I'm much less groggy in the morning. I sleep through the night so that's an added benefit! F 39 30 days

1  Indoor & outdoor allergies Drowsiness, very fatigued, anxiety, legs & back ached ,felt very emotional and weepy at times. I bought Xyzal because I had been taking the other antihistamines out there for so long that I felt they were no longer working. I was happy to see something new to try but it turned out even after just one dose that this was not a good solution. You take it in the evening, I took mine around 7:30. I woke up very groggy but finally got going with my morning. Then shortly before lunch I started to get sleepy and my eyes felt almost heavy & dry, almost like a drugged feeling. I ate lunch and started feeling a little better again only to have that feeling happened again in the afternoon. I did not take a second dose but still felt achey and kind of emotional the next day even though I had not taken a second dose. I definitely wouldn't recommend this medicine! I'm glad I only bought the smallest package! I'm now looking into how to return it. F 54 1 days
