| 5 | allergies | none experienced | worked wonders for my allergies, please read actual studies that have been done about the effectiveness of this medicine. medical studies show that it is more effect than zyrtec (about twice) while causing less side effects than zyrtec. i will trust the professionals on this one. its great! | M | 20 | 1 years 5mg 1X D | 4/14/2010 | 5 | allergies | none | Miracle drug, very pleased with results | M | 12 | 7 days 10 1X D | 9/28/2010 | 5 | allergies | No side effects.. | cleared 4 yr old DD cough and runny nose up with 1 dose - previously tried Zyrtec and Claritin - she had severe side effects - would go into a RAGE at the slighest upset... so far, so good with XYZAL... | M | 4 | 2 months 1/2 tsp 1X D | 3/15/2011 | 5 | Allergies,Asthma | None to report. Well tolerated. | I have been on Xyzal for several months now as a replacement for Zyrtec that is now an over the counter medicine. Xyzal works just as good if not better. I have had no side effects with this drug. | M | 38 | 5 months | 3/18/2008 | 5 | Allergies,,Asthma | Have had no side effects with this medicine. | Xyzal replaced Zyrtec. Seems to be working as well as Zyrtec if not better. | M | 38 | 6 months | 3/19/2008 | 5 | CIU | Weight gain - expensive - $50 for 30 pills w/ insurance | This is the only medication that had any control over CIU - even heavy doses of steroids did not help. Occasional hives, but no more emergency room visits or living on Benadryl. If people think this makes them tired try taking Benadryl 2-3 times a day. | M | 37 | 12 months | 12/10/2008 | 5 | severe sinus problems | i love this stuff, if taken before bed the drowsiness is a plus, i've experienced no weight gain or loss of energy | i also use nasonex and mucinex daily | M | 35 | 1.5 years | 7/26/2009 | 5 | allergies | my son had his first leg cramp ( not sure if it's related) | this medicine has completely gotten rid of my sons runny nose.. he has had a runny nose most of his life & just 3 days of this medicine and it's gone.. ( it was actually gone about 45 minutes after the first dose) he has had no bad side effects like he did with singulair... | M | 2 | 3 days | 12/16/2009 | 4 | chronic idiopathic urticaria | Weight gain and feeling tired. | I couldn't figure out why I was gaining weight and feeling drowsy and then I started looking at these comments and realized it must be the Xyzal. I stopped taking it 2 days ago and so far the hives haven't returned. | M | 53 | 6 months | 11/23/2008 | 4 | Asthma, Exteme allergies | I have not noticed any pronounced side effects. I took zyrtec for a year. I got used to the drowsiness after about a week and it did not bother me either. I did gain some weight on it but not too drastic. Side effects with Xyzal seem to be less. | I took Zyrtec for a year. It changed my life. It was the only thing that helped my chronic severe tightness in my bronchial tubes. It was like a miracle drug...until one day I guess my body got too used to it and it quit working. I was miserable again for quite a while until I heard about Xyzal and decided to try it. So far, it seems to be working. My fear is that a few months later I will have the same problem as I did with Zyrtec. I wonder if anyone on here has had a similar experience and has advice on how to avoid this drug loosing its effectiveness. If so please chime in. | M | 56 | 14 days 5mg 1X D | 1/9/2012 | 3 | Allergies | My 3 1/2 year old has been taking it. It helped tremendously with his allergies but he has had trouble going to sleep and has been rolling all over the place at bedtime which is unlike him. He has also been moody and speaking back to us which is also unlike him. | He has been off of it for 2 days so hopefully we will see an improvement in his behavior. | M | 3 | 3 weeks 1 tsp 1X D | 4/26/2012 | 3 | Allergies, Dermatitis | First, it works great as a sleeping pill before bed time. As good as most sleeping pills. Great antihistamine too. But I noticed depression in the morning after a full dose. I cut the nightly dose in half and that seems to cut back on the morning depression. This should be listed as a side effect! | M | 42 | 2 years 20 1X D | 8/4/2012 | 3 | Year Round Allergies | Strong feeling of tiredness and fatigue. It slows down your metabolism and therefore caused weight gain within a few weeks. I am very active in the outdoors (hiking/mountain biking) and there are times it seems ineffective. I had better results with Allegra, but Allegra will raise your blood pressure over time. | It is somewhat effective, but I suggest using it in conjunction with a nasal spray like Rhinocort. In a heavy ragweed environment, it is not very effective. I am very active and I experienced weight gain. It also makes you feel tired. I continue to use it because it will not enlarge your prostrate and raise your blood pressure like other allergy medications. | M | 44 | 1 years 30MG 1X D | 3/16/2010 | 3 | Allergies and Asthma | Explosive diarrhea, slight weight gain and extremely groggy | When I first took XYZAL, I could tell it was making me very groggy. I decided to take it at night but could barely peel myself up from bed in the morning. Had explosive diarrhea .. very dark in color! Decided to break the pill in half and take it at night. Same symptoms but not as bad. Makes you very hungry! It does knock out bad allergy symptoms but you have to deal with the side affects. I only take it when needed! | M | 45 | 5 months | 3/4/2009 | 3 | severe allergies | Stomach pains, moodiness, irritable | M | 13 | 7 days | 6/17/2009 | 3 | allergies | shortness of breath developed after a month or so: severity varies by day | I took this in the evening to avoid fatigue (replaced fexofenadine). I am discontinuing use of this drug, however, due to the shortness of breath... it's a worrisome side effect. | M | 43 | 4 months | 3/7/2009 | 3 | Severe allergic rhinitis/sinusitis | Drowsiness, feeling 'stoned,' strange and intense dreams | I've never actually been 'stoned,' per se, but I imagine it feels very much like being drunk, only without the dizziness and wooziness. That's pretty much how I feel on this stuff -- sedated and foggy; it affects my reaction time considerably, which is important, since a bicycle is my primary mode of transit. Waking up in the morning is nearly impossible. I took my Xyzal at 7 PM last night and set my alarm a full hour early this morning; it still took me considerably longer than usual to get out of bed. However, I am extremely susceptible to the sedative effects of antihistamines in general -- even Benedryl will knock me out for two days. On the other hand, the Xyzal is doing wonders for my insomnia (I just wish I didn't feel so out of it during the day). However, it works very, very well for my lifelong, generally intractible allergic rhinitis and sinusitis. Literally, for the first time in my life, I'm able to breathe through my nose without taking decongestants. I'm going to give it another week or so to see if the drowsiness and 'stoned' sensation go away. The dreams I can deal with. If the other side-effects abate, in my particular case, this medication will be worth my while. | M | 31 | 7 days | 7/29/2009 | 2 | xyzal | Fatigue, Depression | XYZAL took care of my allergy issues but I just started feeling tired all the time and then started feeling lethargic and did not want to do anything. I'm usually active going kayaking and fishing. I stopped taking this and began feeling good and energietic again. Something I haven't felt in the 8 months I was on XYZAL. | M | 46 | 8 months | 9/27/2009 | 2 | allergies | weight gain, groggy all day (even if taking at night), mood swings, problem concentrating | For 7 months it releaved the allergy symptoms for my son. We thought it was expensive (insurance didn't pay for it) but for the first time it controled the allergy/eczema. His congestion was improved. BUT..when we noticed the weight gain over the months we didn't make the connection to the drug. His teachers continued to mention that he was sleepy in class all the time and he had trouble concentrating. He had mood swings and anger which caused trouble playing sports. He really was a differnt person. We asked the Doctor and he didn't think this was caused by the drug. One of his teachers told us to ask our Pharmacist. He told us that they had heard these same complaints. We're going to take him off daily Xyzal. | M | 17 | 7 months 5 1X D | 2/14/2010 | 1 | allergy relief for my 6 yr old | My son became hyperactive and developed a vocal tic. He could not sit for any meals and would constantly move and touch everything. Very uncharacteristic of him. In addition, he had developed a vocal tic the last two weeks of using the Rx. I dc'd it at the recommendation of his pediatrician. Two weeks today, and all side effects are gone. | Xyzal most certainly helped my son with his cat and dust mite allergies. However, the negative side effects far out weighed the benefits. My son's vocal tic was loud and disruptive. He would tic 3-4x/min at its peak. It made me cry every day until the Rx was out of his system. Two weeks off the meds and my son is back to his old self - calm (for a six year old) and no evidence of vocal tic. | M | 6 | 30 days 1X D | 3/2/2010 | 1 | Allergys | Strange dreams, very restless sleep. lots of munchies. Feel like I am high all day after taking pill at night. I will no longer be taking this, lucky for me the Dr. gave me samples to try before I buy. My pharmacist told me they would be 100.00 for 30 day supply insurance will not pay 1 dime. I'm glad I did not buy any. | M | 39 | 4 days 5mg 1X D | 4/2/2010 | 1 | Chronic Sinus Infections | Weight gain (20 lbs in first 5 weeks - then for past 4 months been following my weight loss plan when I lost 40 lbs pre Xyzal and have only lost 3 lbs); lower back pain; irritability; extreme and chronic exhaustion; agitation; anxiety. | Great drug if you don't have the side effects. My Mom, who I see every 6 months, was with me for a visit for 2 weeks and couldn’t believe how much I’ve changed. She said I look tired, bloated and not the typical fun-loving, patient self. Yesterday she called, and when I was complaining again about the kids and saying how tired I was, she asked me to see a doctor as she really was worried about me (she was showing pictures of her trip to her work friends and some of them commented on how different I looked – really tired and kinda sad looking), so did research if Xyzal makes people tired, and came across SO much negative info about this drug. As of today I'm off it and I’m looking forward to being myself again! | M | 34 | 5 months 5 1X D | 4/8/2010 | 1 | allergies/asthma | My 16 year old son took this combined with Singulair. He had been on singulair for almost a year. Once he added Xyzal to the mix he became very angry and volatile, extremely tired and he had unexplained stomach upset. We stopped the Singulair, but no change. Stopped the Xyzal and he improved almost immediately. | Itmay help the allergy symptoms, but not worth the mood change, especially in a teenager. | M | 16 | 3 weeks 5 1X D | 6/9/2010 | 1 | Asthma | After a few days of taking this I became extremely depressed and lethargic. It did help my breathing but the side effects were not worth it. During the period I was taking it I had a five day holiday with beautiful weather ans staying by the beach. All I wanted to do was stay in bed and sleep. I recommend avoiding this and trying another antihistamine if you need to take one. I don't know bow much it costs but I just dumped a months supply in the bin. Worst still I was taking it with singulair. I discovered from this site that this also causes depression. No wonder I was feeling so bad. That went in the bin as well. From now on I'm gonna stick with my old rasioned inhalers. | Expensive | M | 54 | 1 months 1 tab 1X D | 10/2/2010 | 1 | dust and mold allergies | I took XYZAL for about 75 days and it seemed to work for about 60 days. Then it did nothing, as if I wasn't taking it. I was unable to wake up as alert as when taking Allegra D. My nose runs all the time now and I've gained 8 lbs. during the 75 days of taking XYZAL. Plus, I noticed that I was irritable. My lifestyle and healthy diet did not change, other than not being able to get started in the mornings, as before. | As of toay, I stoped taking XYZAL and am checking with my Dr. about going back to ALLEGRA D. That drug worked for about 18 yrs. Then my system "got used to it" and wasn't working as well as before. But, it was still better than this stuff. Perhaps my system will accept the ALLEGRA D. I'm really leery about some of the other "things" out there for allegery relief. | M | 66 | 75 days 5 mg 1X D | 5/9/2010 | 1 | meniere disease | Extreme fatigue. I could hardly get out of bed the first few days. For the remainder of the time my treatment I had serious mood issues. I was constantly feeling tired, cranky and depressed. After I stopped taking the medication my mood slowly began to improve. I recently started taking the medication again and immediately started having fatigue and mood issues. I’ll never take this stuff again. | It did not help my Meniere's symptoms. | M | 51 | 3 months 5 1X D | 4/12/2011 | 1 | allergies | BEWARE! 4 yr old had HALLUCINATIONS! He was screaming, terrified that there were bugs all over him. He was convinced that there were bugs flying around the room, trying to get him and bite him. It will be a very long time before he is able to forget the experience. BEWARE, not worth the risk! | This drug was originally for 6 yrs old and older. Then, they changed it, and approved it for children over 2 yrs old. | M | 4 | 1X D | 1/10/2011 | 1 | hives | M | 18 | 30 days 1X D | 2/2/2011 | 1 | allergies | I took samples of Xyzal for a few days and didn't even recognize myself! I haven't had any PMS symptoms for years due to hysterectomy, but I felt such blatent RAGE, it was unreal. I spent (wasted) an entire Saturday in such a raw state of fury it was just amazing. I'm scared of this stuff and will trash the rest of my samples posthaste. | It didn't work at all for my post nasal allergy problems. | M | 49 | 3 days | 10/18/2009 | 1 | i wasnt | my mom was taking this stuff for her allergies and we found her in the bathroom barely breathing and she couldnt speak, i dont recommend this drug. i would rather have a stuffy nose | M | 18 | 1 days | 9/10/2009 | 1 | Allergy | Cramps and spams that appear to come from the esophagus and radiated to the upper chest. It felt as if needing to burp, except there was no burping. Episodes lasted for 45 - 90 minutes. | Problem went away 1 day after stopping the medication. Will rather have the allergies than this side effect. | M | 52 | 4 days | 9/10/2008 | 1 | Post sinus surgery | Itches, skin rashes, hives, weight gain. | I wouldnt recommend it to anybody. | M | 28 | 50 days | 12/24/2008 | 1 | allergies | Unable to sleep, anger | M | 45 | 2 weeks | 4/3/2008 | 1 | Allergies | Took in evening as directed. Woke up VERY groggy with horrible headache. Also, my ears hurt and I'm more congested than I was without it. Now feels like I have a cold. Cannot imagne having to suffer these side-effects every day. I have only taken 1 pill and it will be my last. | I know this is a derivative of Zyrtec so probably won't take that either. I'd rather suffer the symptoms than the side-effects. | M | 44 | 1 days | 4/11/2008 | 5 | chronic idiopathic urticaria | None | I take 5mg daily. Was originally prescribed Zantac 150mg twice daily along with it but have weaned myself off Zantac. Xyzal working just fine on its own. If I don't take it on time however, hives return. | F | 43 | 10 months | 7/15/2008 | 5 | Chronic autoimmune urticaria | Some sleepiness in first few days taking it. | I really had no side effects, I was taking this in combination with Doxepin and prednisone to treat my chronic hives. So it could very well have been the Doxepin making me tired. I still get some hives and am only taking the Xyzal (for the last month or so) and it seems to be helping (compared to having 60-70% of my body covered in hives for weeks). I stopped all other antihystamines and it's working great for my everyday allergies too! It IS a very expensive drug, for my budjet anyway. I am lucky enough to get endless "samples" from my doctor. If I had to pay the 120.00 (I believe it is) for the 90 day supply through my insurance I wouldn't be able to take it, but would be very bummed about it. | F | 24 | 6 months | 1/6/2009 | 5 | allergies | F | 32 | 6 months | 3/23/2009 | 5 | Tearing eyes, chronic hives | None | Excellent, no side effects, took care of my chronic hives as well as tearing eyes. I have new food allergies, courtesy of menopause, and this drug takes care of all the symptoms if I eat something I shouldn't. It has been a life saver for me. | F | 56 | 7 months | 9/16/2009 | 5 | Took to stop poison ivy itching | I only took one pill, along with one generic Zantac --- this combo took the horrible itching away. Now I have read about the weight gain side effect on here and will not take ANY more Xyzal!!! | F | 53 | 1 times | 6/30/2009 | 5 | Seasonal Allergies | None | For years, before taking this medicine (even while on other prescription medicines) about three times a year, I developed a terrible cough lasting 4-6 weeks. I was given cough medicine and was prescribed a nebulizer plus the assorted prescription allergy meds. About 2 months ago my doctor decided to try me on Xyzal. Within days, my cough was gone and even during this recent high allergy alert I don't drip or cough. I also am alert all day and sleep well at night. It is a very effective drug. | F | 59 | 60 days | 8/19/2009 | 5 | Allergies/Asthma | Tiredness | I've tried quite a few other allergy medications, all of which were worthless. Before taking Xyzal, I settled on a combination of Sudafed sinus-allergy and a hefty dose of Benadryl. That left me very tired all day and still pretty miserable. If I take Xyzal on an empty stomach I get really tired after about 15 min. If I take it with food I don't get very sleepy. I don't have any problem with morning grogginess. I still get a few allergy symptoms, like to cats, dust and misc things in the air, but it's mild compared to what I get on other medications. My miserability level is substantialy lower than it's ever been. I have few side-effects, so for me it's a great deal. I also take NasacortAQ. | F | 37 | 3 months | 11/8/2009 | 5 | Cronic Hives | No side effects - this medication just works! | I've suffered from chronic Hives (cold Urticaria) for 10 + years. I've tried every thing. zyrtec and allegra handeled them some but just barely. As soon as I started with XYZAL...no more hives! Maybe just a bit in extreme cold conditions...but barely. | F | 47 | 5 months | 12/3/2009 | 5 | Chronic Sinus Infections and Hives | Get very itchy for a week or two if I stop taking Xyzal, but have found taking Claritin for that time makes the itching go away. | I had chronic sinus infections while taking other allergy medicines (primarily Claritin and Allegra). Xyzal has been the only allergy med that keeps my allergies under control and doesn't make me super tried. | F | 21 | 3 years 5 MG 1X D | 5/31/2011 | 5 | Sever sinus pressure when flying | I am supposed to take this once a day, if I miss a day or 2 by accident my hands get unbearably itchy!! | Xyzal works for what I need it for, I used to have extreme pain while flying or even just driving to higher altitude locations, but those days are over now :) | F | 25 | 1 years 5 mg 1X D | 2/18/2012 | 5 | Fall Allergies | None | I'm into my 2nd fall season with this drug. It's the BEST. It has literally saved me from terrible fall allergies. I'm so thankful for it. | F | 38 | 1 years 5 MG 1X D | 10/20/2012 | 5 | Year around allergies | No side effects; works wonderfully | I'm curious if after a length of time your body can build up a resistance to XYZAL? I've been on it for over 3 years with no issues and all of the sudden it's like I'm not even taking anything for my allergies at all - sneezing, running nose (clear), itchy-burning-scratchy eyes, eye drainage, etc... Maybe my dosage just needs to be increased? Or should I ask the doctor for a different prescribtion? | F | 46 | 3 years 10 MG 1X D | 10/16/2012 | 5 | Severe Allergies/Asthma | I have had no negative side effects. Overall I do not mind taking this medication. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is suffering from allergies. | F | 24 | 2 years 5 1X D | 2/26/2013 | 5 | allergic rhinitus | Made me stupid. Don't take this drug if you're trying to write reports, explain concepts, or get any work done. | Definitely cleared up my congestion. I have asthma and my doctor is concerned about a cold I have had and how it's worsening my asthma symptoms. She prescribed this to help dry me up and it's definitely doing the trick. | F | 36 | 2 days | 2/9/2008 | 5 | allergies | It works great, but I've been having really crazy dreams every night since I started taking it. I'm not one to have dreams usually, and these are odd and constant. I feel like I'm not getting any rest. | F | 47 | 14 days | 10/27/2008 | 5 | hives and itching | I have not experienced any side effects such as weight gain and not even very much drowsiness. It just does the job for me. I make 1 pill stretch about 2-3 days if I can. they are expensive, but they really work to take my itching away. | F | 55 | 2 years 5 mg 1X AN | 6/29/2010 | 5 | Chronic allergy headaches | Fatigue, depression, brain fog. I'm on an antidepressant and mood stabilizer for BiPolar and it seems to be interfering with the efficacy of my meds. When I mentioned it to my doctor he looked up XYZal in his trusty little drug app and claimed that there wasn't any depression listed as a side effect. LMAO | I started seeing a new PCP and she gave me XYZal samples when I told her about these headaches that I get at the same time every year, right at the start of autumn. I say "headaches" as in plural but it's more like one five-week long headache...go to bed with it and wake up with it the next day. For eight years I've gotten these headaches like clockwork. I started taking the xyzal about two weeks before I expected the headache and here I am half way through and no full blown headache and minimal sinus pressure. I'm trying not to jump the gun but I'm thrilled. I still get a low-grade "almost" headache every so often but it beats going to bed with one and waking up with it. Fortunately, this won't be a year round medication for me. | F | 42 | 4 weeks 5mg 1X D | 10/12/2010 | 5 | chickenpox itching, prescribed | No side effects noticed, Dr. prescribed 30 count, I bought only 10, and used only 7 , no itching at all. After couple of days itching on eyes, started taking the rest and see if that works. | F | 34 | 30 days 5mg 1X D | 6/8/2010 | 5 | allergies | I just get tired after I take it, so I take it at night. Hunger has been out of control, but I attribute that to a new birth control. | I have gained weight, but I think it's the birth control. Going off the BC, so I'll report back if it's the Xyzal. I love this stuff. | F | 39 | 9 months 5 mg 1X D | 2/16/2010 | 4 | hives /allergy | weight gain 9lbs in 3 weeks ... moods swings..lose temper easily .... it good my hives disapper within few hours but due 2 sideeffects am tryng to avoid by not eating the food which i might think wil bring me hives | F | 24 | | 1/26/2010 | 4 | Dermatographism | Started w/half a 5mg tablet due to tendency to experience side effects to most everything! No side effects that I'm aware of. | This is the only med that helped the extreme itching and welting when no other antihistamines worked. I never had to increase the dose higher than 2.5mg. Starting with a half dose is worth a try if approved by your doctor. | F | 66 | 2 years 2.5mg 1X D | 9/3/2010 | 4 | Bad allergies to dogs, cats, dust. | Apetite of a starved animal (weight gain), dry mouth, fatigue, random dizziness. | I stopped taking my Xyzal for 2 weeks, because I'm not a fan of taking pills. My pants are literally falling off of my body. I hardly ever think about food. But when I'm on Xyzal, all I do is stare at the clock and think "2 hours until I can have a big meal!". I also get random dizzy spells right after I take my pill in the evening. It's quite uncomfortable, but it's gone when I wake up in the morning. But because of the weight gain with Xyzal, I'm going to try to find a natural pill that won't have that side effect. | F | 16 | 8 months 5 1X D | 5/19/2010 | 4 | eczema, itchy eyes | Xyzal is first medication which actually helped my itching. I did not have any problems with weight gain and it didn't make me sleepy like other antihistamine pills. But I took this medication along with singular might be the reason too. | Only bad thing about it its cost a lot, even tho my insurance covers half of it, still expensive. | F | 20 | 2 weeks 5MG 1X D | 8/11/2010 | 4 | Allergies to Mold & Pollen | Possibly way more than I thought there were... | I have been taking this for years - it's the ONLY allergy medicine that has worked for my inner-ear allergies. I used to take Claritin every day and a Benedryl every 4 hours (NOT GOOD!). However, I stopped taking it 3 days ago (my prescription ran out) & I'm itching like crazy! If it really is from the XYZAL, I wonder what other side effects I've been experiencing that I didn't associate with this drug. I've had pretty poor health (up and down blood sugar, pain in muscles, brain fog) for a similar amount of time, and have tried a lot of things to get back to feeling normal.... The light bulb is clicking! | F | 26 | 3 years 5 mg 1X D | 11/30/2012 | 4 | Year round allergies | I have done very well taking this medication to control my allergies. However, my Dr. advised me to stop taking it for 7 days prior to allergy testing. With withdrawal of the Xyzal I am experiencing ITCHING, it is very bothersome. It has been one week since stopping the Xyzal and the itching has not ceased. With this as a withdrawal symptom I am inclined to not take this medication in the future. | F | 51 | 2 years 5 mg 1X D | 8/21/2012 | 4 | allergies | F | 35 | 2 months 5mg 1X D | 2/25/2012 |
