XYZAL  (LEVOCETIRIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE):  Levocetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing. It is also used to relieve itching and hives. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Levocetirizine does not prevent hives or prevent/treat a serious allergic reaction (such as anaphylaxis). If your doctor has prescribed epinephrine to treat allergic reactions, always carry your epinephrine injector with you. Do not use levocetirizine in place of your epinephrine.   FDA Approval Date: 2007-05-25 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  allergic rhinitus Made me stupid. Don't take this drug if you're trying to write reports, explain concepts, or get any work done. Definitely cleared up my congestion. I have asthma and my doctor is concerned about a cold I have had and how it's worsening my asthma symptoms. She prescribed this to help dry me up and it's definitely doing the trick. F 36 2 days

5  Allergies,Asthma None to report. Well tolerated. I have been on Xyzal for several months now as a replacement for Zyrtec that is now an over the counter medicine. Xyzal works just as good if not better. I have had no side effects with this drug. M 38 5 months

3  Allergic rhinitis Very very groggy upon waking the next morning after taking this at night as prescribed. Also had a headache which may or may not have been a result of the medication. It did help with allergy symptoms but not sure if the side effects don't outweigh the benefits. F 50 3 days

1  seasonal allergies SEVERE fatigue - I couldn't keep my eyes open or get out of bed until it had been about 15 hours since I took the pill. After 2 chances, I am not going to try this again. I was far too "drugged" feeling. F 33 2 days

1  Allergies Took in evening as directed. Woke up VERY groggy with horrible headache. Also, my ears hurt and I'm more congested than I was without it. Now feels like I have a cold. Cannot imagne having to suffer these side-effects every day. I have only taken 1 pill and it will be my last. I know this is a derivative of Zyrtec so probably won't take that either. I'd rather suffer the symptoms than the side-effects. M 44 1 days

3  Chronic Autoimmune Hives None really, hard to tell as I am taking so many antihistamines The xyzal seems hit or miss with my hives. I take it first thing in the morning and sometimes I don't have hives until noon, sometimes I get them right away. I have noticed if I am flaring really bad and take an extra one in the afternoon, it will calm down my hives. Very expensive, cost me $55 for 30 pills and that was with insurance and a $20 coupon. I am not so impressed that I will refill it, but my doctor is very adament about me taking it. F 28 30 days

3  sinus infections Major admominal cramping (like menstrual cramps). Fatigue, moody (angry). Also take Nasonex, which I think I'll stop both medications. F 40

4  Chronic idiopathic urticaria Slight weight gain and continually tired Xyzal is the only medication that has controled my CIU. The CIU is much better now after taking it for 8 months. This week while trying to ween myself off of taking it everyday, I realize that it is probably the cause of mild weigt gain , and has made me overly tired most days. However, considering the stubborness of my condition, I do consider the medication a success and the side effects simply something to deal with. F 56 8 months

5  chronic idiopathic urticaria None I take 5mg daily. Was originally prescribed Zantac 150mg twice daily along with it but have weaned myself off Zantac. Xyzal working just fine on its own. If I don't take it on time however, hives return. F 43 10 months

3  prescribed Felt sleepy, moody, couldn't concentrate much, had a sore throat, gained weight. But so far, no hair loss like with taking Zyrtec. Before Xyzal, I was taking Zyrtec. Zyrtec worked better, but the side effects were also stronger: horrible mood swings, couldn't concentrate at all, was always dozing off no matter how much I've slept the night before, gained weight like I was on a chocolate diet. Also, hair loss. But it worked better than Xyzal. F 24 2 years

1  Allergy Cramps and spams that appear to come from the esophagus and radiated to the upper chest. It felt as if needing to burp, except there was no burping. Episodes lasted for 45 - 90 minutes. Problem went away 1 day after stopping the medication. Will rather have the allergies than this side effect. M 52 4 days

1  allergies flu like body aches, bad stomach cramping, diarrhea, and gas pains. Side effects made me feel like really bad flu with digestive/bowel problems. Went off this drug and felt great again except for the sinus problems. Dealt with it for 3 long weeks. F 45 3 weeks

3  allergy - hives My 2 year old son gets explosive diarrhea when using xyzal. Never experienced it with zrytec. We like the lower dosages and it seems to make him less weird but the stomach issues have limited our use of it. We will not refill once this prescription is out. F 32

5  allergies It works great, but I've been having really crazy dreams every night since I started taking it. I'm not one to have dreams usually, and these are odd and constant. I feel like I'm not getting any rest. F 47 14 days
