SYMBICORT  (BUDESONIDE; FORMOTEROL FUMARATE DIHYDRATE):  This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma or ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It contains 2 medications: budesonide and formoterol. Budesonide belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Formoterol belongs to the class of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. It works by opening airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school. When used alone, long-acting beta agonists (such as formoterol) may rarely increase the risk of serious (sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems. However, combination inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta agonists, such as this product, do not increase the risk of serious asthma-related breathing problems. For asthma treatment, this product should be used when breathing problems are not well controlled with one asthma-control medication (such as inhaled corticosteroid) or if your symptoms need combination treatment. Before using this medication, it is important to learn how to use it properly. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, also called salbutamol in some countries) as prescribed.   FDA Approval Date: 2006-07-21 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Asthma I would rather have an asthma attack than to ever take this again. It was mind crippling. I have never had an anxiety attack in my entire life. Or have ever been fearful. I had to take a week off of work because i was having blurred vision and panic attacks. I had to be hospitalized because it raised my blood pressure to 210 over 100. I will never take this again F 47 0 weeks

1  Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness At the beginning I didn't feel any side effect but over the weeks I started feeling lightheaded, high blood pressure, leg cramps, cold hands and feet, also numbness, headaches and eyes pain. I think my lungs weren't a problem but I ended up going to ER because of the HBP. M 25 3 weeks

1  Asthma It works, but when I run out the rebound sensitivity is severe enough to threaten my life, it feels like your body is turning on you, the anxiety and fear set in and panic it's terrible, then your lungs swell up enough to close off 70% of capacity and cause a fight or flight response in which you will fight yourself until you crash in the back of an ambulance and the medic has to fight to save you, this garbage is not safe it will kill you especially if you live alone and don't have anyone to watch out for you when your asthma gets bad or you run out. inhalers are $180 each and not covered by many insurance plans. When I run out I have to break the inhalers open and use a straw to suck some of the residue off the inside to survive until I can get more. I basically live in fear now and it can go from ok to near death in the course of an hour, for example 2 hours ago I was on the verge of calling 911, confused and in bad shape but luckily I was able to scrape some microscopic amoun This was honestly a helpful drug when I first started it, however the rebound hypersensitivity syndrome that is fairly common to high sttrength cortico steroids is a life threatening issue when dealing with the lungs. I suffered through topical steroid withdrawal covering 90% of my body a few years ago and so i have no doubt this is the symbicort causing it. Had 3 near fatal attacks in the past 4 years 1 of which required life support. I will be doing whatever it takes to get off this trash just like I did with topical steroids before. corticosteroids are fucking dangerous. M 33 4 years

1  Asthma at night/low blood oxygen Low back pain spreading to hips. Pain in wrist joints/cramps in legs Fluid under eye/Blurred vision/bad nighttime sinusitis Vomiting/palpitations I had no idea that my inhaler could be causing such a range of disparate and debilitating symptoms.  1  Asthma On and off headache, thrush ; phlegm in throat, dizziness, cramps in legs at night time, blurry vision, stiff back/neck, general "inability to relax" feeling Psychological issues (YES EVEN THAT! WHY?) I wish I never ever in my life used/trusted this drug to treat my asthma, the feeling I felt 4 months ago I wouldn't wish up on my worst enemy. When I was in school I couldn't focus - grades plummeted I barely graduated. When I was talking to my peers - it sounded like I was about to have a stroke. And you might ask, why didn't you discontinue using this drug earlier? Answer is, that using it the first year or so I was perfectly fine and normal, these side effects all came out of the blue, when these side effects came on, I visited many doctors, paid alot of money to get my blood tested and guess what, everything ok! Great, to a psychotherapist's office we go now. They gave me anti-depressants which did not work, at all! Only when I got off symbicort my OCD and depression was gone! like why! to this day 4 months of stopping this drug i'm genuinely feeling unwell and can't work or study! to whoever reads this save yourself please, this drug is terrible. Week 3/4 - Anxiety, left arm arch, eye lid twitch, legs twitching (so annoying at night), intermittent weird numb face sensation, ears ringing, unable to focus at work. I have ceased immediately, today is 48hrs since my last dose and I still have some of the above side effects. I am hoping that this dissipates in the next day or so.
