SYMBICORT  (BUDESONIDE; FORMOTEROL FUMARATE DIHYDRATE):  This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma or ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It contains 2 medications: budesonide and formoterol. Budesonide belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Formoterol belongs to the class of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. It works by opening airways in the lungs to make breathing easier. Controlling symptoms of breathing problems can decrease time lost from work or school. When used alone, long-acting beta agonists (such as formoterol) may rarely increase the risk of serious (sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems. However, combination inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting beta agonists, such as this product, do not increase the risk of serious asthma-related breathing problems. For asthma treatment, this product should be used when breathing problems are not well controlled with one asthma-control medication (such as inhaled corticosteroid) or if your symptoms need combination treatment. Before using this medication, it is important to learn how to use it properly. This medication must be used regularly to be effective. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden asthma attacks. If an asthma attack occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler (such as albuterol, also called salbutamol in some countries) as prescribed.   FDA Approval Date: 2006-07-21 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

4  asthma Side effects heart pulpitations and body shaking Symbicort has changed my life, I used to get sick often about every 3 month I'd have bronchitis until I changed doctors and starting using it. Unfortunately with every action there's a reaction so we can't expect to take medicine and have no side effects. But I'm happy with symbicort THANK YOU to the people who came up with it. F 2 days

1  Asthma Body aches, muscle aches, severe muscle cramps, joint pain, chills, dryness of the throat, trouble with swallowing, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, trouble with sleeping, increased sensitivity of the eyes to light and irritating skin rashes. I had suffered an ugly bicycle accident a few years ago (2017) which resulted in 5 broken ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken 5th metacarpal (finger bone) of my left hand. The painful side effects I'm suffering from Symbicort right now is far much worse. M 31 days

1  Asthma At first I didn't get any side effects,!but some side effects I've been getting recently have been high mucus production where I get to the point that when I take a deep breath in my airways would close at the end of the breath and do that whistle thing (a sign of asthma) At times I did feel really nauseas throughout the time I've been taking symbicort (not because of a cold or anything else like that) I honestly hate it, it's scary because I cough a lot and my throats closes up and I'm scared it'll just close up even more and I'll stop breathing in my sleep. I honestly do not reccomend this, to me my normal serertide was much stronger-either I need a stronger one or it just doesn't work for me F 15 2 months

1  Asthma Racing HR, Constant Migraines, Shakiness, Fatigue, Muscle Cramps, Back Pain, Insomnia, Lightheadedness, Shortness of Breath, Mood Changes, Anxiety. I recently switched from Advair to Symbicort for insurance reasons. First, I noticed myself becoming highly irritable and anxious. Then, I got headaches daily. Soon after, I started to get body and back aches and develop the other side effects listed. My resting HR went from 80 to 100 and I felt highly weak until I figured out it was Symbicort. I've been off for 24 hrs. I still have most of the symptoms but they are not quite as severe as before. Hopefully, it will wear off soon. F 16 3 weeks
