5  High Blood Pressure None that I'm aware of. My doctor gave me samples of Bystolic when I was 28, I'm now 43. I don't recall having any symptoms then or over the years. Presently I do have different health issues but, since I take other meds...I can't really relate it to the bystolic. It lowered my BP, so I'm satisfied. F 43 14 years

4  high blood pressure some fatigue and occasional light-headed. Good beta blocker with few side effects and great heart rate control, though very expensive. Good news is that a generic is now being released by ANI pharmaceuticals, hopefully I can save some money because price is way too high. M 64 10 years

1  High BP I have high BP. Among other more common side effects, I also had hallucinations. Took years for me to finally realize they were connected with the Bystolic. I recently stopped taking Bystolic (slowly over time) and the second night I had been completely off Bystolic, my terrifying hallucinations are gone. F 79 10 years

4  High Blood Pressure Slow heart rate, low sex drive, less anxiety This was a great med. it came into my life when I was about 40 LBS overweight and when my blood pressure was at an average of 140/85. After seeing my BP elevated for a while, my doctor suggested it. and to be honest. I didn't seen any improvement on my blood pressure. However, I had an anxiety problem at the time and Bystolic really helped out with this, more than anything I had tried before, so I just kept on taking it. Then I got into running marathons, lost weight and improved my cardiovascular health. Last time I went to the doc. He said that my BP was a little too low 102/58. He mentioned that it may be time to get off Bystolic. I reluctantly said that I'd think about it. I was in the best shape of my life and I really didn't see a reason to change. A couple of months went by and I started feeling really lightheaded, one time, to the point of almost passing out at work. I went to the doc's office again and he explained me that LOW BP will do that, and advised me to get off Bystolic. This time I took his advice and I'm slowly weaning off it. Will report back in a few months! M 30 6 years

5  High blood pressure History 30-40 yrs of high blood pressure resolved over 5yr period and reduced resting heart rate to roughly 50bpm. But suddenly I developed extreme fatigue to the point where I have trouble walking or standing for even 5-10 min. Don't know if it's a sudden reaction to Bystolic or something else but must stop it to see. It's been great til now so don't want knock it, especially if it's not the cause. I tried 4 or 5 diff bp pills and byst was the only one to work for me. Seems like mostly women (look above) have bad reactions to it M 76 5 years

3  Tachycardia Tightness in chest when first taking it. Weight gain that I cannot lose. Insomnia. Swelling of hands and legs. Joints in hands, ankles, and now my hips are hurting. My palpitations have gotten worse. Shortness of breath a lot. Have had vertigo the last year. Dr. Says it has nothing to do with Bystolic. I like it better than the atenolol I took for years. But still would like to try something else. F 46 5 years

2  tachycardia I had high heart rate, so the cardiologist prescribed nebivolol for me. It lowered my heart rate, but I became slower and it lowered my not high sex drive more. The latter days I experienced strange headaches, high fatigue, extreme sleep times, and after them nightmares, panic attacks almost every night with shaking legs, hands, coldness, sweat...horrible. A neurologist gave me xanax. Now i can sleep and I've stopped taking these pills. I started to take vitamine B complex and I hope I can stop taking xanax too. M 27 5 years

1  Hypertension Been on this for years and never realized how many side effects there were. Bad ringing, depression, arm pain, etc. I just had my 5th heart attack, a triple, and gastritis. Stopped my chol meds because they were making my stomach hurt worse. Now I realize the Bystolic is just as bad. Gums are also swollen and nerve pain in my feet. Benicar made me cough. M 59 5 years

4  Chronic migraines None really, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it decreases my metabolism a bit. And I noticed that it will limit my heart rate during cardio - guessing by about 10bpm. Huge affect on control of migraines. Used to have 2-3 migraines a week, now down to 2-3 a month. And it reduced my blood pressure a bit, which was good, since I was on a little too high (135/85).  3  Hypertension I've been experiencing headaches, back, neck, shoulder an knee pain for last several months. Also some nausea after taking my medication. Extreme tiredness, so I started taking at night. Glad I saw these posts which now seems to explain my joint pain. Definite weight gain. Will have to talk to doctor about weening me off the bystolic.  2  High blood pressure Tingling in feet, Hair loss, chest pain infrequent, I tried to wean myself off it got it down to tiny amount. Eating well and healthy exercising. A few days later blood pressure spiked back up. Had to go back on. Very disappointed. It's almost like my body is addicted to it. I felt better when I started weaning myself off it. F 47 4 years

1  high blood pressure, high pulse Side effects started 6 months after i started taking bystolic, i have traveled from doctor to doctor, got brain MRI, and alot of other tests, but after all it was all bystolic side effects. This drug is slowly killing your system, posion every cell of your body. It should be BANNED from market. Now after almost 4 years of misery i switched to bisoprolol I hope, Bystolic side effects will fade. M 31 4 years

Patient History
1  Tachycardia even after ablation Didn't realize Bystolic was even causing these side effects I am 64 but felt like I am 84. Light-headed, no energy since last winter. Thought symptoms were due to EffexorXR, which I don't want to quit. I am retired so I could often crawl back into bed as needed. Had shortness of breath. I developed tinnitus and could feel and hear the beating of my heart in my head all the time. Exposure to heat would soak me. Night was worse. Had leg and foot cramps, so painful, they could knock me out of bed. Fingers felt magnetic to each other, remaining in crazy positions. Drank gallons of water, took magnesium and potassium--no difference. I did research on MS, MD, ALS, Lymes--could have been anything. I can't say I was suicidal, but life had become a chore. My husband pointed out not going and doing was the problem. Unable to continue a volunteer gig, I made an appointment with my doctor. BP read 82/62 with pulse 99. She said this would be why I felt to puny. She took me off Bystolic. I am now one and a half days clean! Restful slept all night for the first time in ages. No sweat! No cramps. Ear ringing is nearly gone and my heartbeat isn't jarring me day and night. Not even tempted to crawl back in bed. BP is normal. No pain anywhere. I don't even feel like me! It doesn't seem possible 5 mg of one medication could be so detrimental. I still have an electrical problem--Even on Bystolic, I was "tachy." I don't know what changed since my ablation that I would feel so wretched--other than getting older. This has been a real eye opener... F 64 4 years
