4 | Birth Control | Had only spotting and no periods at all really for the first 2 implanon (6 years). Since I got my 3rd I have got my periods back again and they are random. Sometime 2 in a month and sometimes nothing for 2 months however even that is starting to level out and my last few months I have only had one per month and at pretty even times. Only usual 5 days. A small amount of acne under the chin which is definitely hormonal and bloating just before my period same as any contraception. I have been very emotional and feel very sad or irritable and lonely a lot during this time however I have been like this for as long as I can remember and on contraception of different sorts for the last 15 years so I do not really have any idea whether the strong emotions are due to the implanon or just me. | All in all I have found it great to not have to worry about remembering to take contraception or go to the Dr every 3 months for an injection so I would recommend giving it a try. Technically and symptoms should stop as soon as its removed so worst case scenario, if your body doesn't agree with it, you just remove it again and you should feel back to normal pretty quickly. | F | 33 | 7.5 years 3X AN | 10/30/2014 | 4 | Prevent pregnancy | Little weight gain NO periods the whole time while I was on it. After the 2 replacement they put in the nexplanon | I recently took out the nexplanon 12/4/14 me and my fiancé wants to try and have a baby. But I have yet to receive my period. How long should I wait to receive a period | F | 23 | 7 years | 12/15/2014 | 5 | Birth control | I had two different implanons over five years. The first six months was a bit crazy with a low moods and light frequent bleeds (though nothing like a period). I am glad that I stuck with it as for the rest of the time it has been wonderful. My moods have been very constant and upbeat, periods very infrequent and light, no period pain or back cramping, good sex drive. I am the biggest baby ever when it comes to needles and blood, however I found the insersion and removal procedures bareable and not a bit painful. As someone who previously used the pill for five years, I can fully recommend the implant and wouldn't hesitate to use it again after starting a family. The only minor side effect I have found with the implant is minor acne, however I am happy to live with this for the other benefits Implanon offers. | F | 28 | 5 years 1X day | 11/24/2014 | 5 | Birth control | The best thing ever. Had my 2nd one removel & my 3rd putin. Would reccommend to any one. Iv not had to think about contraception for 6 years & another 3 to come. Yes i do get mood swimgs but i had them on the pill so i think its me. My periods are about 5 weeks apart & can last up to 10 days but are quite light & mostly painless. | F | 27 | 5 years | 7/30/2014 | 4 | Menstrual cycle | Headaches, nausea, fatigue, weight gain, non motivated, I hardly get my period. | I have not gotten pregnant within the 5 years not have I had a scare. So yea this product works you just have suck it up and deal with the side effects, but it effects everyone different. First few months I had symptoms of being pregnant because I did not have a period therefor my body thinking I'm pregnant. | F | 22 | 5 years Idk | 12/5/2014 | 5 | contraception | Omg. I love love love the implant. After fighting with estrogen containing pills for years and actually conceiving both of my kids on them I finally found this! Depo was great too but I use to have an eating disorder and that makes bone loss issues more likely. Anyways.. I love nexplanon. Highly recommended!!!!!! Also to the person prior.. a few women with clotting disorders got blood clots. It is way less likely to get one with the implant in comparison to combined pills. | F | 29 | 4 years | 12/1/2012 | 1 | Birth control | In my first 3 years I had implanting and it only affected my periods now I have nexplanon and it is the worst thing ever it has attacked the follicles on my ovaries which has made it hard for me to have children in the future it has also cause me ridiculous weight loss, sickness and bloating I would not recommend for anyone to have it | F | 19 | 4 years 30mg | 5/6/2014 | 5 | for reliable contraception | have had some long but light drawn out periods | HUGE benefit in that it lightened my periods and made them predictable and a good deal less painful. Since getting the implant replaced 4 months ago I have only had one light period. Plus I have had three and half years (with the same partner) without worrying about condoms or pills. | F | 23 | 3.5 years standard 1X O | 5/30/2011 | 5 | pregnancy prevention | It took away my period and it was a amazing birth control method. I got it taken out and immediately got pregnant. I am on my second Implanon. | F | 22 | 3 years | 12/24/2014 | 4 | to prevent pregnancy | I'm on my third year of habeing the implanon and I've experienced bad headaches and pain in my side is it normal | F | 23 | 3 years 60 | 8/19/2014 | 4 | just to be extra safe | Ok so this was the first time I had the implant I had gotten it after my first child now I have had it in for.almost 3years this June.it will be removed but for almost 3years I have not had a period this past week I bleed for 3days normal flow and now I just been getting brownish pink stuff in my underwear so I've had to.use a really thin panny liners in the past two months inhale went from a B cup to a D cup now I've taken test but they all keep saying it's negative anyone else know what I can do or see what going on with me and why my body doing this????!!!!! I need.help!!!!! | F | 19 | 3 years | 9/1/2014 | 4 | To not get pregnant | I bled for 1-3 months when I first got it. I get my period several times a month. But I have long periods of time where I don't get it at all. | I love it! It's better then taking the pill. I don't get my period much. | F | 19 | 3 years unsure | 10/30/2014 | 4 | to prevent pregnancy | After removal I'm having pregnancy symptoms haven't had a regular period yet.... I've been off of the implanon since March had irregular periods for a few months now it's September and I haven't had a period in a month now I'm feeling nauseous all the time and moody | F | 24 | 3 years | 9/14/2014 | 4 | to prevent getting pregnant | My 3 years of the Implanon implant is almost up (I get it taken out January 2015 and it's November 2014) I don't really have any complaints until it gets close to the end of it. I have had 2 periods a month sometimes. Sometimes it's a period at the beginning of the month then one at the end or its have a period for one week be off for another week then start again other then irregular periods killing my sex life there really isn't much for me to complain about I loved it | F | 21 | 3 years | 11/24/2014 | 4 | I was in an active relationship | For the first month I had about a 3 week long period. Then I got my period every 4 months for the first year, then one period the next year and this last year and a half I haven't had my period at all. | Having the implant for 3 years has been a better form of contraceptive rather than the pill, which I tried before but started forgetting. The implant never made me gain weight. I believe having it from ages 16-19 has had a big impact on puberty and growth with natural hormones, meaning my body missed that time frame and didn't have any growth. I get it removed on Tuesday April 14th. | F | 19 | 3 years | 4/12/2015 | 4 | So I wouldnt get pregnant | I had a period every other month on it and it wore off in March last year i didnt go to the doc to get it out yet and i had a period back in the end of Oct.begginning of Nov.and didnt have a period since and im not pregnant so help me figure this out plz. | F | 40 | 3 years dont know | 2/13/2015 | 3 | birth control | I really liked the implanon at first. After about a month of having it i started to get mood swings. My mood swings and my emotions were terrible and still are. I also have periods that last months at a time. | F | 18 | 3 years 68 MG | 5/4/2015 | 3 | To not get pregnant | Bled constantly for 7month then they slowly fizzled out bad cramps weight gain 3stone tingling sensation in skin aches and pains all over no sex drive hair loss on head and towards the end I got hair growth on face lost weight at the end also no motivation and depression made worse and anxiety and inching in virginal area and discharge | Worked as contraceptive and was good for stopping periods once they settled down and I stopped bleeding but didn't like the side effects at all | F | 32 | 3 years | 6/4/2017 | 3 | Birth Control | It's taken me almost 3 years to realize that most of the problems I've been having are probably coming from my Implanon. Some bad side effects I've been having for years now are: painful bloating more often than not, mood swings and being super emotional, absolutely no sex drive most of the time, I've gained 60 lbs in less than a year, I'm irritable, and I'm even pretty depressed most days- I can't seem to make myself function normally (like do things like clean up the house or take a shower, etc). Sometimes I get nauseous, and sometimes I get dizzy spells. I've also had a constant ringing in my ears for months now, I can't stand to be in silence because I hear it most then. | My periods are on a fairly regular schedule and have been pretty light. The insertion was fairly painless, I have a small scar. The bruise didn't last more than a few days. | F | 30 | 3 years 1X day | 9/9/2014 | 3 | Birth control | Weight gain. I never had my period on it. | After getting it removed my body change, I was feeling sick daily. Vagnial discomfort. Irregular periods if I wasn't trying to conceive I would put it back for the pure reason it agreed with my body. | F | 20 | 3 years | 1/18/2015 |
IMPLANON (ETONOGESTREL): This product is a small, thin plastic rod that is inserted under the skin to prevent pregnancy. The rod slowly releases etonogestrel into the body over a 3-year period. Etonogestrel is similar to a natural hormone made in your body. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. This product does not contain any estrogen. This medication may not work as well in women who are very overweight or those taking certain drugs. (See also Drug Interactions section.) Discuss your birth control options with your doctor. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).
