4 | bi-polar II | none except for lack of excitement about anything. I get very mean/hateful, imagine things like people talking about me if I don't take them I am totally normal on them and I don't need a high dose. I have suffered the worse then death withdraws. But, I don't really care to do anything, clean the house, travel, have a party while taking them. | Although I don't care to do anything. When I absolutely force myself, I am always pleased I did. I have thought I could come off of them and would taper and suffer the withdrawal process. Only to find out I shouldn't. | F | 65 | 25 years 5 mg 1X day | 7/4/2014 | 3 | pure O | always feeling Neausea, headaches, yawn all the time. | Some residual pure OCD. still get anxiety and panic attacks randomly. doesnt go away completely. Looking to switch cause I have been on it so long. Doing research. | M | 37 | 16 years 12.5 | 11/25/2020 | 4 | anxiety | headaches, weight gain. not anxious! makes a stressful life a little less crazy. | i was on anti-anx pills for 14 years. it's great while yr on it, but after i had cancer i decided to get off all pills. the withdrawal is Horrendous. words cant even describe- i thought i was going to have to be committed to a mental institution. my doctor helped me to come up with a taper plan over the course of 12 months that finally worked. the slower the taper the better. flaxseed oil helps w/ withdrawal too. glad to be drug free after all these years! | F | 28 | 14 years | 11/25/2008 | 3 | depression/anxiety | tiredness, reduced motivation, unpleasant withdrawal symptoms when attempting to taper dosage, or switch to another drug. | For me Lexapro has the fewest side effects of all the SSRI's, SNRI's that I have tried over the years. The lack of motivation is the most troublesome side effect. And, when I have tried to lower the dosage, or stop; The brain zaps, dizziness, headaches, stomach upset, anxiety, depression, all start within three to five days. While there are some lucky people who do not get withdrawal symptoms, I have read that some studies show that these symptoms can be worse for people who have taken the drug for a long time. Also, these studies show that withdrawal symptoms from Lexapro, and some other SSRI's, can be more intense than Benzodiazepine withdrawal. Only doctors and their patients can decide which drug is best for them. If I was starting over, knowing what I know now, I would avoid all SSRI's and SNRI's. | M | 71 | 14 years 10 MG 1X day | 6/15/2019 | 5 | Depression | None | M | 59 | 13 years | 1/28/2019 | 5 | Anxiety Disorder | Emotions are blunted. Occasional panic attacks. Overall it has been a lifesaver. | Panic attacks have increased the last couple of years. I am wondering if the Lexapro is not working like it should because I have been going through a couple of months of anxiety at levels like before I started Lexapro. Has any one had experience that Lexapro stopped working for them? | F | 60 | 13 years 15 mg 1X day | 12/3/2021 | 1 | Anxiety and depression | weight gain, sexual dysfunction, inability to experience and express full range of emotions (they got blocked leading to long term physical illness), short term memory problems, low energy, low motivation to make needed changes. | Even though I knew the medication wasn't helping, I tried 4 times to stop taking it.... but I had become dependent on it, my body got adjusted to having it and so when I cut down and stopped...... I got overwhelming emotional and physical symptoms which I couldn't handle. I eventually came off this medication over the course of 6 months and the withdrawal symptoms have lasted on and off for the best part of a year. Initially, it reduced my anxiety and depression for a few weeks, but after that it was all down hill. Be careful, take the lowest dose for the shortest amount of time needed and look for the cause and a proper cure. | F | 49 | 13 years 10 1X day | 12/30/2011 | 4 | Anxiety and depression | The first couple of weeks were weird, but no weirder than Zoloft. | I remember that I felt like someone had wrapped my nerve endings with soft blankets. Before Lexapro I felt that my nerves were just raw. I felt everything so deeply. I was told as a child that I was "over sensitive." I think I'm an empath so that doesn't help matters. I started out on 10 mgs and after 10 years thought that maybe I could taper down to 5 mgs. I didn't think it was that hard, but my daughters said I was acting a "little strangely." Never good to hear. After a year or so on 5 mgs. I realized that I was unstable. For example, I went to my new doctor for my first appointment and totally fell apart. I was crying so hard that I couldn't talk! She gently recommended upping the dosage back to 10 mgs which I did. I guess the bottom line is this. If you have GED and depression and are not able to function, are sad everyday, sometimes think about suicide then it would be a good idea to try and find something to make you feel better. BTW, I did go down the herbal path and nothing really helped. | F | 12 years 10 1X day | 5/17/2012 | 1 | anxiety, depression | severe muscle weakness, damaged back, knees and feet. Cracked 3 teeth. can't orgasm, anger, paranoia, obsessive thoughts. constant hunger and tiredness weight gain. mental fog. 7 weeks of hellish withdrawals to get off it. It hides pain till you get off it. Surprise you're damaged! | This should not be used for more than 1 yr. Doctors and pharmacist have no clue about how much damage this stuff does. Helped with severe anxiety but not much with depression. I've been living in hell for the last 10 yrs. Cymbalta is a much better med for me. | M | 55 | 12 years 10 1X day | 4/4/2012 | 5 | Major depression / Schizoaffectve D | Very few. It makes me tired & relaxed. A little happier - as major depression is not a happy condition. I do have to force myself at times to get things done. That is not a horrible side affect compared to nausea & swelling & anger & feeling crazy. I have few bad or adverse side affects on Lexapro. Please do not take this drug away or discontinue it. It has very few ugly side affects. | Lexapro works better for me than any AD or Antipsychotic I have taken in 10-11 years. I feel normal & not crazy or nutty. It does make you tired a little. It also helps you sleep when you need to. I don't have the kind of condition that i can work fulltime like I had been for 40 years - 40-60 hour weeks. I could add an AD to it, but they have more side affects to deal with. I might try one in the future. Most of the time I feel really good. I just don't always think as fast as i used to. My depression developed over along length of time. The anxiety started in my mid 30's. I had a nervous breakdown in 1995. i worked again full time 1996 - 2008. The depression got worse after 2008. I was diagnosed with Major Dprssion & Schizo-Afctv disorder in 2009. The only cure for my depression is medication & sleep. Lexapro has worked so well for me that I hate it when somebody want to know the name of it. I fear it will be discontinued. It also is not the drug for most patients. It helps me to feel like a human instead of a zombi like person or an angry crazy one. There are other mood stabilizers like it, but it works, so why mess with it? Lithium - no thank you! Prozac - I wanted to fly off a building! That might explain a few suicides? The drug drives you to it. Please don't discontinue this drug! It is an older one. I think it was invented in 2007.or before. God bless the researcher or doctor or pharmacists who developed it. - whoever that might be. - Forest P | F | 58 | 11 years 10 1X day | 11/17/2020 | 5 | Generalized Anxiety Disorder | Decreased libido, insomnia | I have been on Lexapro over a decade this medication saved my life. I was living with anxiety that was debilitating. I had been on Zoloft which made me a zombie. Lexapro was the next line of treatment my anxiety is near non existent | F | 36 | 10 years 30mg 1X day | 3/27/2022 | 5 | PTSD | None | My lifesaver | F | 64 | 10 years 10mg | 9/10/2016 | 5 | BP-2, Social Anx | On-yawning at first, lower sex drive, more difficult orgasms, less creative, more sleep required. Off - brain zaps at first, hip pain, BP and Anx. | Lexapro was the missing puzzle piece for me. I was happy with my kids, new wife, life. I was social and confident and had a skip in my step. However, I'm one of those people that don't want to be on drugs as I refused help for 10 years prior. So, I weened myself off (6 weeks) 10 months ago and now I'm the same miserable person I was 11 years ago except now I have joint pain and I am more anxious than ever. | M | 49 | 10 years 20mg 1X day | 8/5/2014 | 5 | Depression and anxiety | I have experienced lower energy which I think might be related to Lexapro. I take Wellbutrin (generic) to boost my energy. | I had lifelong struggles with "the blues", but right after my 40th birthday, I experienced intense anxiety, followed by a depression that was a nightmare. I tried a few different SSRI's before trying Lexapro. Lexapro is a lifesaver for me. I have tried to go off it, but experienced depression and anxiety. Unfortunately, I have not had success with the generic type. Lexapro also helps me control ruminating thoughts-ie worries, fears, anxieties, or morbid thoughts. I was always a worried and with Lexapro, I can "compartmentalize" problems and let go of concerns much more easily-like a "normal" person. | F | 51 | 10 years - | 12/11/2014 | 5 | Depression and anxiety | No side effects! I have had problems with memory but I really don't know that it has to do with Lexapro or not. I have been on this medication for about 10-12 years. | Lexapro took me out of a long term, deep depression and debilitating anxiety. I don't know what I would have done if I had not found this med. | F | 45 | 10 years 20MG 2X day | 3/12/2015 | 5 | generalized anxiety and bipolar | sexual side effects... nothing else | amazing drug. could not live without it. taken it for 10 years. gives me my life back. | F | 29 | 10 years | 7/20/2009 | 5 | Depression | none | F | 55 | 10 years 20 MG 1X day | 8/9/2012 | 4 | Anxiety, Depression | Low sex drive and trouble ejaculating. Increased craving for alcohol. Overall feelling of "numb brain" as I call it. Trouble concentrating. Poor short term memory. Low motivation. | I had spent approximately 15-16 years taking Prozac. I felt like it wasn't working well for me anymore so about 10 years ago, I was switched to Lexapro. Over the 10 years, it has done a great job at lowering my anxiety and evening me out. I worried less about things and was able to cope with issues and problems much better. Overall, I felt much better. But after 10 years of taking it, I feel like my brain has become dull and numb. It has become difficult to concentrate on anything or to get motivated to do anything. It has started to affect my job as there are days I just sit and stare at my computer and don't feel like doing anything and just can not think. I seem to be tired and unmotivated to do anything anymore. Even things at home that I used to find enjoyable before. Think maybe it is time for a change in meds. | M | 43 | 10 years 20 MG 1X day | 1/9/2012 | 4 | Depression | Worked Very Well. No more crying spells. A happy feeling prevailed. | F | 45 | 10 years | 1/28/2009 | 4 | Multiple psych issues | Nothing of note | Works better than most I've tried. | F | 60 | 10 years 50mg 2X day | 1/3/2015 |
