5  Schizophrenia, poor cognition Really bad anxiety, homicidal thoughts. Some tics. Really excellent medication, main reason I had to switch from Risperidone was my thinking was really messed up. But having switched to this my thinking is clear as, no problems on the schizophrenic side either. Fantastic medication. M 6 months

4  For paranoia and depression. Anxiety doesn't go away. However this medication really helps obsessive compulsive disorder. You have to take other drugs concomitantly with it. Very good for paranoia and mood but doesn't help anxiety. M 1 months

3  Add-on to Antidepressant Mainly rapid weight gain, despite a healthy and quite restrictive diet and exercise. Increased sweating and headaches. Abilify did help boost the SSRI I was taking, but after 5 months of constant weight gain, I am ready to get off it. I'm getting depressed about my body now. I was hoping I would be spared this side effect, but I'm gaining 1 lb per day, and that is unacceptable... Nothing fits anymore. I'm still not big, but if I stay on the medication, I will be soon...  3   Massive increase in hunger and weight gain. No other side effects Abilify worked great to stop mood swings and sense of "What's the point?" and fearful thoughts. The doctor said the medication would make me lose weight but it didn't so I decided to stop it F 2 months

3  MDD Insomnia, light sensitivity, just felt "off" My doctor prescribed Abilify to add to Cymbalta for my MDD. It aggravated my insomnia and caused my Ambien to not work as well. Mostly though, it caused my pupils to remain dilated so I was very sensitive to light. I had an eye exam last week, and the doctor didn't even have to dilate my eyes. I ended up getting off as I didn't like the side effects. F 3 weeks

1  Yes Ever since I've been taking anti-psychotic medicine, I've lost interest in movies, games, internet, or books. I've also lost interest in going out and socializing. After some research, I think It's the dopamine that's being blocked that's causing the problem. Dopamine is known to cause curiosity and reward driven learning in the brain. I don't know what to do, I've been tempted so many times to stop the pills but I'm afraid of going into a psychosis if I do. Is there a way to somehow reduce the dopamine in the brain without having to block the dopamine receptors ? How have you been doing ? Thanks. Keep in touch . M

1  Anxiety Extreme akathisia, severe restlessness. I became extremely restless and couldn't sit still, sleep, lay done or stop moving. It was scary. I kept moving and couldn't sit still and I felt all jittery. The akathisia was scary and it lasted the entire time. I got off this drug after a couple days of akathisia and even when I went off it, the akathisia stayed for weeks and it eventually died down. I was only in high school when I experienced the akathisia and had to miss a lot of school. Akathisia, severe itnernal restlessness on this drug is very severe and it's a scary, terrifying feeling. F

1  OCD Extreme restlessness. I couldn't rest or sit still. My arms and legs were shaking constantly, my feet and toes kept shaking, it was terrifying and painful. I had to be out of school for a week because I was unable to sit still, I kept moving and my feet and arms and legs felt like they had to keep moving. I was so scared, I thought the pain wouldn't ever end. It took weeks after getting off it before the restlessness stopped. It was scary. The most frightening pill ever. I could not stop moving or sit still or lay down or rest. Abilify made my arms and legs feel like they had to constantly be moving and it felt so uncomfortable sitting still or laying down, I felt constantly restless. It was extremely terrifying and I was young and hadn't known the side effects the pill would give me. I was so scared the restlessness and pain was going to last forever. I could not lay down or sit still, I had to be moving every second and I couldn't rest. It was awful. Scary stuff.

1  Schizophrenia Irritability, Inability to concentrate, Shakiness, Restless Leg Syndrome, Increased Suicidal Thoughts, Major Depression, Increase in paranoia and auditory and visual hallucinations Abilify almost killed me. For the first month of so, it seemed like a miracle drug. I told everyone "with Abilify - im able!". I had my life back on track, no side effects, everything was fine. Thats when my whole life changed. I became violent, withdrew from people, couldnt stop shaking, and became even more paranoid, had horrible voices and visions that would not leave me alone, not even for a moment. They told me to kill myself and harm myself and others. They said they would stop when I listened to them, so I did cut myself to see if they would stop, but they didnt. I was driven mad with abilify, to the point of getting amitted into the psychiatric ward at my local mental hospital. My doctor finally switched me off of it to Latuda, and im much better now. PLEASE dont take this medication! F 6 months

1  Depression Couldn't dream anymore, couldn't do daily tasks or work, promiscuity, low self esteem, dull sense of being, inability to stay on task, lack of foresight, risky decision making, indifference, apathy, spending money non-practically, crying, lack of energy, discouraged, angry, sad, hopeless. Lawsuits against this drug manufacturer should have been enough to stop its production. It's effectiveness is imaginary, it's price is stupid, mixed with other meds is more stupid, can lead to gambling and promiscuity and abnormal social behavior. Makes you not give a damn, and makes you feel like you're only partly alive, half-dead. It's a poison that never leaves your system and remains in vital organs. Once you research you will agree it is a poison to make money using humans as tests/experiments. I stopped it on my own, because I was no longer feeling the stresses that they assumed I needed this Godforsaken medicine for, as I was experiencing a loss and grief over a loved one at the time, and had few withdrawal symptoms when I stopped cold turkey ( increased heart rate, weeping)…an educated person wouldn't go near this medicine. I was stupid for not researching the facts about Abilify, and trusting inept APRN's and overworked medical professionals. Better to face our issues head on in a safe environment than to numb the engine (our subconscious mind) we need to subsist with some grace and dignity. It ruins your teeth also. F 4 years

1  Bipolar Disorder Excessive weight gain, compulsive eating I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Two years ago I was prescribed abilify. Within 3 months I gained 40-50 pounds due to compulsive eating. The eating got out of control. My self image was destroyed. I also started feeling restless, I couldn't sit still. I also started having heart problems/ high blood pressure. The doctors did not care that I was having this experience, they just kept me on it, even though it nearly killed me. Horrible drug.  3  ADHD uncontrollable muscle movements, especially when in the car. My son has been on Abilify (1 mg) for over a year. We started on .5 mg because of his weight. I did not want to medicate my child but I had no choice. He was diagnosed at 2 with ADHD, but I didn't believe the psychologists because it's hard to diagnose something like that at age 2. He is also ODD. Last summer he was almost kicked out of daycare because of impulsivity, aggression, and inablility to sit still. The Abilify worked for him then and continues to work. I would love, however, if he didn't need it but now he's in kindergarten and has to take it to get through the day. I was also able to get him a 504 plan with the school since I got another diagnosis at age 4 which was ADHD. M 5 1.5 years
