CRESTOR  (ROSUVASTATIN):  Rosuvastatin is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs known as "statins." It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease and helps to prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating a proper diet (such as a low cholesterol/low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this medication work better include exercising, losing weight if overweight, and stopping smoking. Talk with your doctor for more details.   FDA Approval Date: 2003-08-12 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  High TC and High LDL Pain in hand, back pain and progressively higher A1c over time. Now I’m pre diabetic with a recent A1c of 5.7 even though I’ve worked out daily for last twenty years and I’ve never been overweight and my diet is Mediterranean and fairly low in carbs. Is there an alternative statin that doesn’t raise my A1c and reverse my pre diabetes? F 78 2 years

3  High cholesterol Fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, pins and needles right hand, brain fog, depression, lack of interest. The muscle weakness came on gradually but it made me try stopping. Fatigue, muscle pain and weakness went away quickly. Brain fog and mild depression took a bit longer. I like what it did for my lipids so I'll probably start it again but take breaks. M 53 6 months

5  Moderately elevated LDL I have had no side effects at all. I go to my doctor regularly and get my blood work as she orders it. Not one problem. I am a nurse and if I had muscle aches I would take the supplement CoQ10 which sometimes helps but I have not needed to do that. This is effective for lowering my cholesterol, it is completely normal. I am happy that I am not building plaque in my arteries. I am not interested in having a stroke any time soon. They run in my family strongly. F 63 2 years

1  High cholesterol I was taking 10 mg with no obvious side effects except occasional nausea. My doctor raised the dosage to 20 mg and within a month I had constant nausea and stomach pains. I told my doctor they were the same symptoms I had when I took Synthroid, which has lactose, and I thought there was a lactose problem. He looked up the lactose amount and found that the 20 mg dose had twice the amount of lactose as the 10 mg. He switched me to lactose-free fluvastatin and I am fine now. F 84 0 weeks

2  Familial Hyperlipidemia Was taking 10mg per day for 2 years, then doc increased to 40mg. Due to the power of suggestion, I don't typically check side effects until I feel the need to or have unexplained issues. In this case I have developed the following: thinning hair, joint pain throughout, lower back, ankle and neck pain, foggy thinking, muscle weakness in legs. In addition to the Crestor I have drastically changed my diet and my cholesterol dropped but my doctor wants my numbers 20 points lower. Wish there was a better solution. F 61 3 months

1  High Cholesterol Severe joint pain. After 3 months, suddenly starting to lose hair. Started on 20 mg, experiencing bizarre random joint pain (hip, ankle, wrist) and fatigue. Had no idea what was happening, then when I went for my first refill, I asked my pharmacist about my symptoms.. she confirmed these were common side effects from Crestor. My doctor now has me take it every other day, less pain but now after 90 days my hair is falling out. All done with this poison. F 70 90 days

1  Higher LDL Joint pain in my shoulders and neck region, terrible dreams, sore hands with shooting pains in both my hands and legs. tenderness in my arm pits. I know my body reacts strongly to new medications. So the initial perscribed does was 5 mg. I decided for me it was best to cut the pill in half to 2.5 mg. First full day, my hands started to ache and the night before I had crazy dreams. Day two, my left shoulder was in excruciating pain. Then the following week, shooting pains in my hands and feet, brain fog in the morning. missed a day and the next day was feeling much better. Then back on, the side effects were coming back. Might be fine for people who feel unhealthy to begin with my this isn't worth dealing with borderline high cholesterol. Called my doctor and said, no more, find something else for me! M 59 14 days

2  High Cholesterol Side effects crept up on me. Headaches, thoracic spine pain, achy shoulder blades and ribs. Pain between my shoulder blades like someone sitting on my back. Unable to take a deep breath. Ibuprofen helped very little. Chiropractor and physical therapist sessions helped temporarily and then my back spasms would return. Affected my ability to work. I spent a lot of time lying on a heating pad. Finally, I skipped taking the pills for 2 days and my pain diminished 50 percent. Been off 6 days and my pain is gone!! Doctor doubted it was the statin because of being on a low dose and attributed to posture at my desk job and/or my anxiety. The medication worked very well to lower my overall cholesterol from 289 to 189 when I took 10mg for one month. I reduced to 5 mg because of constant headaches and maintained good numbers in the months afterward but seems the muscle cramps and pain developed over time. F 63 5 days
